I do not trust embargo day videos anymore. The best source for gear reviews on YT are reviews done by people who actually bought the gear with their own money.
These videos have some bias too, because usually people subconsciously justify their purchases, so they tend to magnify the pros why belittle the cons.
But they usually list all the cons they encountered (opposed to embargo day videos), so you can draw your own conclusions.
I've been kinda jealous of YT who get free gear to review, but lately I changed my mind, and I think I was blessed to be able to afford all the gear I reviewed so far.
You don't need to trust them, just watch the videos and see the specs in action and make up your own mind.
Insta360 was recently caught asking YT to not disclose they were sponsored.
10000% don't watch sponsorships for anything other than entertainment and education, it doesn't affect my purchases.
Dudes, Phillip Bloom is the man!
So true
Personally I can’t trust anyone that been on the Panasonic S9 trip anymore
If you watch the coverage of the event the audience is trying so hard to act excited about the release 😂. Such a massive let down, the worst part is they have two more camera designs they just decided not to release for some reason.
Yep. I’m calling it out. It’s the biggest POS camera for the price. It’s a cool camera for 499.
As a Panasonic fan... I can't get behind that shit. No flash??? Everything totally stopped right there for me. It's a photography camera - so I don't care about the 10 minute record limit... But no flash? Fuck that. 😂 These shill mofos. Then a 26mm f8 lens??? Who gets excited for a "daytime outdoor lens/camera only" combo
Same! Worst camera release in the last 10 years.
I literally blocked every shill from that Lumix S9 Japanese trip, even channels I haven't heard of. I looked them up just to click the "Don't recommend channel", coz I just know YT's algorithm will show them to me one day when I've forgotten.
New CZcamsrs buy the gear at first and give more negative reviews. If they get more followers, sponsors start giving free gear/trips and you never hear a negative review ever again
I love everything about this video from you. 99% of CZcamsr content is to sell you (the watcher) on something even if it's not the right product/service.
including this one… by stating the obvious and gathering likes / wasting your time. who tf? Lol
depends on the youtuber. For cameras I usually listen to working pros that use these cameras day in day out in their businesses. Carlos Quintero, CVP, Loud & Clear, Josh Sattin, Jared Polin are my top 5.
Let's be real, in what world does any product get the amount of reviews that cameras get on youtube? Maybe smartphones, but that's about it. It's almost like reviewing cameras is some kind of reality show and you just have to find someone who resonates with you, and just do your own due diligence. This is why going to a store, or calling an actual store is probably a better way to go, although who knows if a salesperson really knows what they're doing either. It's hard to say, but at the end of the day, just like anything else, you have to do your own research. In addition to being a performing Artist and a filmmaker, a theater artist, I'm a runner, and so I obsess over running shoe videos, but I really don't use any of them to decide which shoes are best for me. I either go to the store and try them on and get on the treadmill, or I order a bunch of them online, and then send the ones back that I don't like. But there's no review, with regards to anything, that I'm going to trust without injecting my own research into it. This Panasonic S9 barrage of videos is a good example of how much bu"lsh*t there is on youtube. Like really? Is that camera worthy of 20 billion reviews? You would think they came out with a camera that cured cancer. It's crazy. It's actually pretty funny. But it's all good, it's all fun on youtube. I think the most trustworthy people on CZcams are the ones who give you advice on how to fix a leaky faucet, or how to change a tire. When you get 500 reviewers for one new camera, chances are you better not trust 99% of them. Just take it all for what it's worth, talk to people who you know personally, get educated, and at the end of the day, at least with regards to a camera, figure out what's going to help you tell the story best, what's going to get out of your way, and buy that camera. Oh, and then Master it and stick with it, because every camera out today is pretty awesome. There's pretty much no camera that's going to stop you from doing what you want to do.
“I got this free all expenses paid trip to Japan and they gave this camera on long term loan but my opinions are my own.” Yeah, pull the other one…
When the majority of the viewers will start to appreciate and support the creators, then there will be no need to accept sponsored requests. All of this is on the viewer's hands ✋️
Love the format of the channel ❤ GJ guys!
Many photography CensorCZcamsrs are sales pushers for camera gear. The good ones show you how to be better photographers and aren’t pushing gear.
NO, I don't trust any that have sponsors and gifts.. Those are not REAL Reviews, I do trust Camera Conspiracies! Who else?
When the video started with the, I was provided the gear, but it is my own opinion. Yeah, get ready for the CAP
Zv-e1 suffered the opposite of this, which is rare. They used clickbait titles to shit on the camera after hearing one reviewer mention something negative.
I bought the camera regardless of reviews and I shoot in 40+ weather, no shade, outdoors and the camera never over heated and I can't imagines a situation where it will. All of these "filmmakers" fail to mention that if you are on a pro set, you rig out your camera... why is it fine to rig a Red to maximize it's capabilities on a professional shoot but then criticize cameras without dual SD cards as if you wouldn't already be using a monitor?
While you guys are 100% right. We got incentivized long before CZcams was launched.
As a Tech Writer we got the same treatment as the tubers today and sometimes paid.
As a retailer new got Ad Dollars, Spiffs, Bonuses that included trips, Cash, Cameras, Lenses and much more
Watch the videos, read the articles and do your own damn research 🔬
Rent the damn thing first or buy from a place with returns or realize we all make mistakes or cameras that fit everyone may not fit me so I’ll sell it and buy again.
We bought all kinda stuff with no reviews we just took chances be an adult and just do what you do and be ready to deal if it doesn’t work out.
*user experience is always going to be the best review. I own an FX30 and ZV-E10. The FX30 is an AMAZING camera, but it's not for everyone. The ZV-E10 is an Amazing Camera as it's not expensive and works for 90% of everyone. But I bought the FX30 because it is a cinema camera n it more video focused. But I watched a LOT of content creators who reviewed it. Then I decided too buy it and I love it*
The root issue is the "the fog of camera reviews." The average viewer can't tell who is legit and who is a shill. And everyone tries to sell themselves as "honest/independent" reviewers. All this is going to make people think it's all BS. So it's in everyone's best interest (reviewers, camera companies) to create better ethical standards.
I think it’s simple. CZcamsr greatest asset is their target audience. It means they cater to subscribers and sponsors. Professional in the industry greatest asset is their skillset and network. The incentives are different. Camera are just tools. Depending on the jobs each tools have their own strengths and limitations.
Hey! I don't mean to be rude, but what are you shooting this on? I think there's something off about the image. The one on the left looks like it has some excessive smoothing-out effect (is it an iphone?), or maybe it's a result of the lighting... On lower res playback on youtube the consequence is that strangely it feels out of focus, because the skin is so washed over in comparison to the rest. And it's crazy orange compared to the other one, which seems way too red... Anyway, the content of the podcast has been interesting, but I think the image could be better considering it is a podcast on cameras, mostly... All the best!
I certainly think there is some Bias, but as a viewer you can tell when someone is generally very interested in the product. I have certain people I look up to and they've built my trust over time so I'll know if it's a POS product or not. I personally only review gear I've used on my channel for several months so I really get to know the product and make sure it fits in my own workflow.
I trust Rob machado and no one else
Lens reviews are the worst because I often don't see the problems until I find a video of someone who bought the lens and is complaining about it.
It’s not always easy to wait as sometimes new gear could get sold out and you don’t wanna wait forever to get it but those reviews that are like 2 months with the * insert camera* are much better than a rushed press trip video.
My biggest gripe with reviews is that firmware can greatly change a camera but that original review is still there putting people off it
CZcams is a. great for seeing a product and possible usecases for it but we see this across ALL reviews. Car reviews, computer reviews, SW reviews so you need a 'list' of people who you go to for the pros/cons. But this video hit true across more than just camera gear
When you know your craft, and you speak the truth about these products, your channel never grows. Really appreciate you coming out and sharing this uncensored. Would love to have a dialogue with you similar to this on many topics as I’ve been watching Channel ever since the beginning.
I know more of how I'll trust the info when I know if it's a paid review or not. If it's paid, I'll still watch to get the info on the specs and main details.
If it's not paid and just based on use and preference, then I'll put more weight on it based on the benefits and issues since it's more based on straight usage
This is my biggest issue with YTubers and Reviews. So many start out with, well this isn't sponsored. Okay, fly yourself out to Japan and Buy the Camera. Plus don't run any commercials either on your Channel when you do the reviews. They need to stop the, well this isn't sponsored BS. They also need to stop with the Lame, well Blank Brand has no influence on what they are going to say in a review type video. So if they really want to remotely claim independence, Buy the gear on your own. Period.
No one could survive on CZcams if they did that. The costs would be just too prohibitive. As Gerald Undone mentioned these trips already cost the creators a lot of money.
Also owners have biases too. If you’ve spent a lot of money on something you’re more likely to defend your decision.
@@JonathanPalfrey Well that's debatable if no one could survive. They could buy it and then immediately sell it after the review or they could rent it. You know since Gerald wants to claim being first isn't really all that important. Just because Gerald claims something hardly makes it true.
I think also we have to be aware on what is popular which could influence CZcamsrs to talk a product or brand more.
I usually wait for the industry professionals to comment on new gear as they’re using it as intended
I get that the whole LUMIX event with the S9 triggered a lot of hate - not just for the camera. But, to be honest, my trust in camera reviewers has been affected by the reviews themselves, long before the LUMIX event. It's not just about whether or not a video is sponsored. For me, I have come to realize that I don't know how informed the reviewer is when it comes to the gear they're reviewing.
About 99% of the time, I hear the same comments, complaints and compliments about gear from multiple reviewers. When I hear complaints, I often hear them from someone who really doesn't appear to understand what they're complaining about. When reviewers have claimed that a camera is crippled because of X, Y or Z, there are times where I have that camera and don't agree with their judgment. I don't think that's going to change anytime soon. And those instances are not the fault of the manufacturer, but, the content creator themselves.
If companies are paying content creators to compliment the gear they're reviewing, I would say that's been happening all along. I don't think it's anything new. The LUMIX event only brought it into the light. And I don't think LUMIX is anymore guilty than a lot of other brands. I've seen reviewers who always seem to have great experiences with the same brand video after video. And other brands seem to disappoint them. How can I be sure they're not being paid on the side? I can't.
And now, I see comments here where people say they'll never trust a content creator who is invited to a release event. Which is really unfair to the content creators. There may be some who feel they have to release a positive review so they'll get invited again, but that doesn't necessarily hold true for the other creators who attended the event. I am more critical of reviews on my own. I don't need a manufacturer release event to inspire doubt in reviews. Many reviewers bring it on themselves. There is only a handful of reviewers I trust at the moment. I don't see that changing anytime soon. Hopefully, creators will get back to making content. Keep their eyes on their own reviews. And let the chips fall where they may.
BTW Peter isn't a Canon Amabassador for like 1-2 years now
Short answer, no.
Hell no. All they do is endorse gear and switch systems every so often like that is realistic or reasonable for a professional that actually has to work for and pay for their shit from doing real jobs.
I dont even trust the Cinematic Videos anymore, after that channel was caught using an Arri, and pretending it was different cameras with different luts. I'll just visit the store, and try them, you cant really go wrong with anything over 2,000, basically comes down to handling.
I think consumers just need to be smarter about their purchase decisions. PR has been around for ages.
I shoot on RED Epic, Blackmagic 6K, Leica Q3, Canon R3, Nikon ZF, and S5II and I still ordered the Lumix S9. I dont care if it has no evf or time limit cuz I have other cameras for that. I bought it just for the sole purpose for the enhanced version of the real time lut feature. If you already have pro gear in your kit and you're still complaining about the lack of specs on a entry level camera then you are egotistically entitled
hell no....hell to the no
You can trust a select few 🙌
Critical thinking goes a long way when watching sponsored videos. I never have been influenced to buy something I don’t need bc of these videos
Enjoy them for what they are, use your brain and decide if it’s for you.
Also compare and contrast opinions across the board- don’t take one person’s thoughts as gospel
So many people rely on creators to make the decisions for themselves. It’s so backwards and when they buy gear that doesn’t fit their style, they get mad at the creator. Weird times
I love seeing my favorite creators post sponsored videos bc it means they’re going to be able to do this longer bc they can support themselves / their family
I’ve watched a bunch of s9 videos for entertainment, I’m not buying one bc I don’t need it. Easy
That said- use critical thinking to evaluate opinions and reviews.
You can trust them about as far as you can throw them lol 🤣
In reality the real out way the bad. Cuz in regular life their are worse advise about a plethora of topics, they don't get held accountable but CZcamsrs and bloggers do.
1000% accurate
I watch news but I don't trust any CZcams reviewers, not one. Don't recommend people to buy even if you think it's good for you. Rent first, then buy. Somehow reviewers always say BUY BUY BUY but rent-to-test never cross their mind.
No. Especially not you. You loooovvve Canon and expensive cameras and turns your nose up to anything not expensive or Canon/Sony....m. and we only hear from you when you have a sponsor 🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️ loving the podcast tho
Baseless accusations. I think he’s careful to include positive comments as well as critiques- and find his opinions to be honest and forthright, as well as informative on a number of occasions. I think when they have biased, they state it outright - nothing hidden.
Just my opinion.
Petal Pixal for is pretty balanced
Camera conspiracies is good
Ken (angry photographer)
Absolutely NOT!!! 🤷🏾♂️
I don’t think we trust CZcamsrs because none of them have any demonstrated work that they post that can qualify them as an expert. All of their content is reading and hyping up a spec sheet that anyone can read on a website in 10 seconds. A few of them go outside and film, some flowers, trees or grass and tell us how amazing the dynamic range is. Selling their souls for free Camera gear is super sad to see. The camera industry is a sad place because quality is going down and they are releasing more frequently. Resell values are plummeting. The cameras are probably at the pinnacle and it’s more obvious than ever.
all gears i review on my channel...are bought with my own money...and becoz i m on a strict budget...i make sure what i buy...has excellent shelf life...
no bananas for me...
CZcamsrs acting like APS-C is trash compared to full frame....
RIGHT??? Or trying to make 4/3 sound better than APS-C 🤣
Quality content fellas you got my sub.
You can't trust 90% of CZcamsrs regarding camera reviews because 90% don't know what they're talking about. And some brands are paying channels to slam the competition. Some CZcamsrs say they are DOPs but are begging manufacturers to add autofocus to cinema cameras, and that's a significant clue that you're an amateur.
never trust most youtubers...dont think even that dude said many bad things about canon as i can remember...
Na CZcamsrs are sellers of product
the s9 has g checked tubers
No. It's a dumb question.
Lumix is best specially the new S9
do you trust Peter McKinnon?
NO
Nope, as soon as I hear "This video sponsored by"and it relates to the actual gear....I know they are on bullshit.
nope
Nope, it's pretty much impossible to do an unbiased honest review after being flown out and given a camera. Or a light or a lens. The fastest way to tell who is on the up and up is a simple glance at their videos. One video with a clickbait title cool they're a shill. Five videos using the product okay now I need to pay attention.
Can my channel be trusted?🤔
I trust your channel.
I trust you simply because you’re a working professional outside of CZcams. You are using the gear on paid jobs and documenting your experience. I respect that much more because it’s in the field where you see if the gear is as good as the spec sheet. Plus, as far as CZcams goes, you’re pretty blunt when you don’t like something.
You mean like Nikons are potatoes bs????
Most fcuked-up camera from Panasonic.
Just a few. A lot of them are sponsored by them so ofc they going to make it sound good. They’re getting paid and. trying to lose their connections
Bro trust me bro buy this 5 year old DSLR it's so much better than that new crap
No you can’t
When there is money: never trust all the BS youtubers are saying and if the product is from a chinese company... don't even watch it.
Unless that CZcamsr invites me on their livestream.... I don't trust them. Ain't even gonna lie.
Haha
POPPYCOCK, you Brandon say the same thing about a new camera review "I was not paid to say this" but you accept the gear; isn't that payment?
