    Pro photographers and creators have existed for years. Long before our cool gear existed. Those pros would’ve dreamed of our “consumer” level gear these days.

      Facts. I love how all of a sudden the technology that was good enough is no longer pro for certain people. Before I got my Canon R6 Mark II, my main camera was a 1D Mark 3. A camera that I still use. Technically it is old and dated, but I still shoot with it and make a living. The comment that HDMI, and many XLR is not pro is laughable to me.

When I said HDMI isn’t pro what I meant is, typically you wouldn’t find it on a Hollywood set because the cable is too easily pulled out unlike Sdi which is preferred by most professionals. Definitely no offense to you and even in fact to me because I only have HDMI ports on my camera.

    I've made dozens of local TV Commercials for opticians in the NYC area with the FX3 and FX30 as my B cam. I started with the Bmpcc6K. They don't care about SDI, Internal ND, codecs just results. They spend thousands on production and even more on the TV spots to air them. Basically all of these cameras are technically pro if they produce pro results for professionals.

    Professional is the wrong word here. What they’re really talking about is purpose built cinema cameras and TV broadcast cameras. Professional just means you make a living off of what you do, it has nothing to do with the tool at hand. And versatility isn’t really a sign of professional gear either. A prime lens is the least versatile kind of lens there is, but every movie is shot with one. An underwater camera only does one thing. Cool discussion

    There’s a huge difference between the terms “pro” and “cinema”.
    All people who shoot for cinema are pros, but not all pros shoot projects that are viewed in cinemas.
    With that being said even though you can create a movie with ANYTHING that records images, HOWEVER what makes a camera a “cinema” camera is the fact that a certain camera becomes widely used throughout the the cinema industry and the images/projects are played in THEATRES.

    My guy got it right, what makes a camera or tool pro is build quality, and features, you can use a cheap camera and it’ll get the job done, but maybe not as durable, as a pro contractor I might by a cheap tool, it’ll get the job done, but it may be lacking in power, or comfort features that a pro tool will have… There is a big difference, now with that being said you can still build a house with a ryobi but maybe one or two or three or take a hit with efficiency etc, durability.

    *I bought the FX30 because it's a Cinema Camera. As Far as Pro is concerned, Pro can mean a lot of things. A Pro Cinematographer can use a FX3/FX30 & still be a Pro. If we're talking about Movie Camera's then yes there's VAST difference not only in Price and Features, but there's always going to be that Gap, but someone like myself who's never used a camera like My FX30 coming from an A6400 or ZV-1 yes The FX30 is far superior in terms of abilities, but again it depends on the person n their experience with the camera*

    When you fill back the layers of what he is actually saying, he actually has a point because even in Brandon point you said “ those are pro features the camera have”
    So what happens when the camera doesn’t have pro features at all?
    Do you define the line of a 5D mark three shooting video a pro camera?
    So I kind of agree with him in a way at the same time agreeing with you there’s just gray area to this to where we just need to look at every single camera individually and say this is not a pro camera or it is

  • @fofopho
    @fofopho Před 3 měsíci

    Cameras, especially consumer/enthusiast cameras, have gotten so good. But “pro” is largely dependent on what area you are in. I primarily make fitness content for influencers. Been making vids for a living for over a decade now. Previously shot with the FS7 II. But have been using the a7s III since the day it launched. I currently support my family, a wife and two kids, and live comfortably off of the work I do with my a7s III’s (and an a7 IV for photos).
    Those are both consumer/prosumer cameras, but they are certainly pro in the sense that you can make a living using them. It wasn’t my best year as I’ve been trying to work less, but I cleared 200K last year before taxes. And to be fair, I could probably do all the same work with the a6700/FX30 if I needed to.
    All that to say, the a7s III is a pro camera to me and for what I do. But I’ve also worked on more elaborate sets where the a7s III wouldn’t pass for anything more than a BTS cam. You could rig it out for use in a doc, but you would be better off grabbing an FX9/FX6 or Komodo.

    "Camera is no different from a hammer" The tools are no longer an issue. Its whos using the tools. Also, 'The Creator' is a perfect example even though homie used it as a bad reference "outside of the Creator whos used the FX3?" its really the ONLY example you need to conclude the point I am trying to make. Even though the film wasnt ground breaking from a story aspect, the quality of the images were outstanding ,thats all the consumer's care about as far as imagery goes. Great conversation though Im loving it.

  • @JonathanPalfrey
    @JonathanPalfrey Před 3 měsíci

    I think it's better to see it has a scale of 'pro-ness' in a camera rather than hard cut off points of what is pro and what is not. An Arri Alexa for example is 100% Pro, it has zero use in a non pro environment and unless you were rich or crazy you'd never buy one as a consumer.
    Something like a C70 is probably 80% pro, once again outside of pro filmmakers using it to shoot their family no one is buying a C70 as a consumer however it does lack a few features, FX3 is probably 75% Pro.
    Something like an A7iv is more like 40% Pro, still more than good enough for professional work but far more likely to be bought as a top end consumer camera.

    @sbozinovic Před 3 měsíci

    Ok, I'm at the 5 min mark and I have to say... It is interesting how both of you are right and both of you are wrong.
    Let me explain myself... I am a professional cameraman, but mostly in broadcast tv. Professional equipment in broadcast tv needs to adhere to standards pertaining to acquisition, workflow, technical standards in signal transmission and pathways, etc.
    Take the xlr for example... While it satisfies engineering standards it also satisfies the versatility in use, both in equipment you can use and in situations where you can use it. You can use the same microports (tx, rx) in eng and in studio situations, for example.
    BUT, if you own all that "pro" stuff and don't use it to work with it, what's the point (professionaly speaking), while on the other hand, you can make videos for CZcams or instagram with the Iphone and do it as a job and you'll be a professional videomaker, or however it is called.
    Now, I'm a dinosaur so I don't like the "one man band" way of working because of many reasons but I must acknowledge that it exists.

  • @KenFlanagan
    @KenFlanagan Před 3 měsíci

    Moronic. Btw there are pro hammers. Martinez tools? Too many ill informed people given access to pro gear and dont know how to use it properly?? Sure. A test might be when the camera package is the least expensive item on the budget. At that point you are probably on a pro shoot and then ask yourself what camera you should use for the job in hand. Then its a pro camera. If the film requires the look of an iPhone 7 then use an iphone 7 on a professional job. It doesn’t make it a professional camera. Any professional or should we caveat that with any professional who knows what they are doing and not faking it, would know what a professional camera is. I have know idea why these two have such an issue working this out. There are professional standards in every industry. Know your trade.
