Love when Rhett is fired up😂
I think that deal was ownership trying to turn down the heat and say "see? we're trying!"
Reality is finally starting to sink in :D
2023 - Pissed about 55 pts. 2024 - Would be ecstatic for 55 pts. Just brutal.
Exactly it was like breaking up with a girl then marrying the next girl before the first date, i never understood why they signed him so quick
A decade
Thank Stupid Treliving.
And Equity Edwards.
#EdwardsOut
Huby just needs to go back and take a shit, he been holding it in since Sutter made those comments about him last season
#plsLetMyManGoBackandShit
"Huby" needs to simply go. He's a spoiled, prima donna cupcake.
Thnx for dumping that on us .😳

To be fair, for a player with Huberdeau's stats the fact that he was over point per game for the last 3 yrs prior to his 115 points season and he wasn't trending towards regression at the time, he deserves about at least a 9.5 million-ish AAV contract, so signing him to 10.5 wasn't too egregious a deal imo. Pretty sure another team would have easily payed him that if Calgary hadn't.
agreed, i have always said, at that moment, that was pretty much market value for him. Over a point per game for 4 years and 115 points and a record setting season for assists by a LW. When more and more players were getting signed for 10 or over, that was absolutely the free agent market value for him.
Yeah, Rhett is a little off base. The signing backfired no doubt, but 10.5 is about market value for a fwd who averages over a PPG for 4 years in a row. It was an impossible spot for Tree. No way could he just walk another star forward to UFA like he did with Gaudreau.
This reminds me of the trade back in the 90”s. Gary Leema, one time 50 goal man.
The big difference is that Leeman was two years removed from his 50 goal season. The writing was definitely on the wall that Leeman was circling the drain when the trade happened. 7 goals in 34 games at the time of the trade, following a 17 goals in 52 game season. I am old enough to remember when that trade happened, and the feeling was immediately "wtf did the Flames just do?" We (the fans) hoped maybe Flames management knew something we didn't, and Leeman would have a bounce back, but the expectations were pretty low.
That's why I love these guys, they calls em like they sees em. (And I couldn't agree more)
I had never heard of him until the trade came to pass.
+35 with Fla is the big mystery
I’ve said it before. I didn’t think he’d put up 115 again but if he put up 75pts and was solid defensively alongside a selke guy in Lindholm, then nobody would care.
The problem is he doesn’t really play defence at all, and he’s not doing anything amazing offensively so what do you have? A borderline 3rd or 4th liner
He made a huge defensive play two games ago. And a couple good ones. But one massive diving play
Hindsight is always 20/20.
It's the Barkov effect
Just like Laine & Pulijarvi flounder without Aho.
Some players have the IT factor like Chucky has & some like Huberdeau are a one trick pony who need someone to drive the play. Chucky is a driver. Huberdeau is not
It was universally seen as a good trade at the time, the contract term is another story but paying 10m was fine for the caliber of player he was.
You didn't hear about him because he's on an east coast small team, we never hear anything about them. Huby was a constant ppg+ player, go look at some of his highlights he was crazy good. Nobody on earth could've guessed he would have plummeted this hard.
take a look at his career stats even with St Johns he had 1 105 pt season surrounded by others that were half that. That sighning was suicide just like having all the 3 year deals coming due at the same time i can't Tre was that stupid maybe he hated the fans and owners i dunno but his work here just doesn't add up.
Blame chucky. He wanted out and this was the best trade we could have gotten. Don’t blame hubby for having a good year.
No,,, if there is player blame it goes to Gudreau. He is the one that screwed the Flames by conning them along and then jumping ship with no compensation to the Flames.
Tchuk played it fair and square. He gave the Flames the opportunity to trade him for some compensation. He didn't screw the Flames at all.
It was the combination of losing 2 star players at once that threw the Flames management and owners into a tizzy and they screwed up not in the trade which was pretty good considering the conditions, but in totally panicking by signing Hubie to that stupid contract and then signing Nazim to a contract that was just about as stupid.
That folks was total panic and ridiculous. Was is management or owners? We don't know but the result is the same.
The Flames are handcuffed by those 2 contracts for years to come which limits the dollars available to add key players for the future.
The trade was ok. The signings were the worst I have ever seen.
Not a GM in the league who wouldn’t have made this deal at the time! Everybody was saying wow! Easy to look back and bitch! Huberdeau has to step up! Coaches and him have to figure it out!
It's amazing Rhett doesn't even skip a beat with all those earthquakes going on...
holy sht 10.5 for 8 years starting at age 30.
is the GM that singed this fired yet?
100 effin percent!!!!
Yeah why arent we hearing Bean's name in all this controversy and edwards as well...yeah treliving fir sure but was he handcuffed to do this deal???
the funny part is now toronto has treliving
If i cud go bck 3yrs ago i would have traded Tkachuk to canes for Aho and a dman plus 1st maybe a 2nd to
whats with the shades
4 season in a row producing at a 90+ point pace or better. Completely agree with the chemistry piece argument thought!
Calgary just doesn’t have a Barkov. In fact, calgary has a team that is built entirely of guys who can make shit happen, but not a single player who can bag the shit. Cept for maybe lindholm, but I haven’t seen that quick left right overload to the slot once this year. It may have happened but I haven’t seen it
How many times does this team sustain pressure and get shots for extended periods of time, can’t score, one mistake, they’re gassed, goes the other way and ends up in our net, with one of the best goalies in the game who’s gaa and save percentage take a ridiculous beating cuz he’s constantly trying to circus stop grade a scoring chances cuz his entire team has just been exhausted to the tits in the offensive zone for 4 fucking minutes and fuck it all up cuz they can’t fucking score. One of the best d cores in the game, but it’s useless when everyone’s exhausted and below the hash marks desperately trying to make something happen.
Most times the clutch effective lines are built with two players that can score on command and one player that can make shit happen. The make shit happen player can collect pucks, enter zones, get pucks back, and most importantly, get that puck to where it needs to be, then let the two beasts get the job done
Even after the whole majestic thing that was lindholm thachuck and gaudreau line, lindholm and toffoli got it done. Fuck it, put lindholm, Coleman, and huberdeau on a line, and tell everyone else they’re gonna have to figure out how to play center, not like there’s any shortage of them on this team lol
And yes, gaudreau and lindholm were the beasts lol
Maybe if Huberdeau didn’t have to loose speed and momentum on every single rush because of Calgary’s slow play, production would be a hell of a lot better. His strength was in fast breaks and rushes in Florida and the flames have no such game 🤷🏼♂️
But why are they still banging on about Huberteau
He did 40 assist last year and this years duty of the team is not different .Its winning. Huberteau will be still overpaid in 5 years from now
Meanwhile, Daryll Sutter is feeding his cows and laughing. 😂Told ya so.
Yup and these same guys were upset that they didn’t sign chucky and Johnny. Lol. Rhett has a short memory.
Sunglasses inside is such a coool look
He’s a 50-60 point guy historically. It’s not his fault he is producing to his capabilities. This is a GM mistake.
Leafs want Zadorov and tanev.
Hubbie is the new Swoopie.
So if we were to rebuild.... who would we rebuild around which players do we keep and who do we trade off? And with that said are we as fans willing to wait 5 years before we see playoff action... ?
What use is playoff action if we don’t get past the first or second round?
@@NI771-_ well then whats the point of getting in then period.... all playoff teams have to start in the first round weather you make it through the first round anyways.... your comment doesn't make sense..
I'm sorry, but Warrener is meat head. Of course more recent seasons matter more than older ones. Players usually have a development arc. When evaluating Nathan MacKinnon's value as a player, does anyone care that he was averaging 0.69ppg for his first four seasons? Up until the middle of last season, he was less than a point per game, career, despite having four consecutive seasons at 100 point pace. Did anyone, Warrener included, consider MacKinnon a 75 point guy at the beginning of last season? Using Rhett's logic, MacKinnon was barely a good player, certainly not a superstar.
Warrener also contradicts himself within the span of two minutes here. First he says we were sold a bunch of BS. Then he wonders aloud why no one noticed Huberdeau's career PPG. Well, why didn't YOU, Rhett? How could you be sold a bunch of BS when the evidence, again, according to you, was right there all along? Stop revising history. Literally no one expected the precipitous drop-off that Huberdeau has had.
Editied to add: And you know what, it's even more ridiculous when you look at Tkachuk. This is a guy who Warrener describes as someone everyone knows is an all-star. And yet, his stat line at the time of the trade was actually less impressive than Huberdeau's. He had exactly ONE point-per-game season to his name. He's STILL not a PPG player over his career, and at the time of the trade he was 0.89PPG (Huberdeau was 0.91PPG).
Did'nt replace Gaudreau Tkachuk
Rhett is not wrong, neither is Boomer. IMO Huby was a pt per gm player. Many people in Calgary and else-where were thinking "Huby doesn't want to leave Miami and move to Calgary. Maybe he won't go". So Calgary makes him an offer he couldn't refuse. The day after his signing, he becomes a 1/2 a pt. per gm player. I don't think any GM pays someone $10M+ per yr w/o the owners' blessing. A big hot city team that are going for the cup might take him off your hands if you eat half his salary. And they give you a couple of draft picks (preferably their 1st & 2nd)🤷♂
You have to believe with Huby now at 30, at some point you're gonna have to start eating that contract.
With his performance right now about the only team that I can see having any interest at all would be the Panthers if they wanted to reunite him with his ex linemates, but certainly not at $10 million. Maybe 5 with Calgary retaining 5. How about trying to talk the Panthers into reuniting Lindholm with Chucky?
But they have to take Hubie too or no deal. 2 problems solved and back to the drawing board. Or not.
Bwahahaha. CGY needs to get rid of the value that they may still currently have. Blow er up. Break er down and rebuild.... when was the last time CGY really rebuilt the team? Kadri, Johnny H. Hanafin, etc. Holds some value Still to grab some picks etc.for the future. I understand the cap space is limited for most teams but be/yet creative and I'm sure someone will pick up the above mentioned names for something or someone
Rhett bang on!!!
#ASSESOut4Huberdeau
Quit, the swearing, does that make you tough!
is Huberdeau the real problem?
Sorry but you have to over pay players to stay in Calgary. It's that simple, that's why he paid Huberdeau.
Treliving is the most overrated GM in the league.
Trash deal. Thanks Brad.
Waste of $10.8 million for the next decade.
