      I think this is implied that Austrian influence really hinders South Italian economy in this timeline by empowering landlords at the expense of industrialization, allowing the! North to catch up.

    • @davcam7032
      @davcam7032 Před měsícem

      That's not true, even before the unification Southern Italy was poorer than the North. Regions like Sicily, Calabria and Apulia were characterized by great social and economic disparieties. The economy was reliant on mere agriculture, industrialization was heavily lacking. It's true that the unification widened the gap with Northern Italy, buy it's not very difficult to understand that in a moment or in another Southern Italy had to get rid of the landowners system and its agricultural policies in order to evolve and compete with the others. Therefore, saying that Southern Italy only suffered from Italy's unification is wrong.

      @davcam7032 Před měsícem

      @@Herobrineminecraft-return Ofc what I said is true, and with all due respect, everything you said has no importance. Do you think that Naples and Palermo were the only cities of Italy with treasures and that northern and central italians cities didn't own such richies?
      Panama owns a canal that is crucial to the global economy, are people from Panama rich? I could make tens of similar examples to that, so if the first train track was built in Naples that doesn't automatically make the Neapoltian people rich, and that doesn't change the fact that Southern Italians lived unfortunatly in very poor conditions. The élite was rich, the people had nothing to eat, as I said the socio-economic disparieties were huge, thus they migrated to the USA. The same Florio family you mentioned is an example of that.
