  • Different Ways to Automate - This week’s video is all about automation within DAWs. Automation is a process where we can get the DAW to carry out jobs for us, for example turning up a fader at a certain point in the track or editing the amount of effect applied or the panning. We can use automation to create consistency, movement and interest in our mixes. It is also great at saving us time and making our lives a lot easier. There are 4 main automation modes (4 different ways we can automate).
The video goes through what each mode is, how to use each mode and examples of each. It also mentions the difference between track and region automation. This video is aimed at beginner to intermediate home producers, engineers and musicians.
    Topics and Timings:
    1. Intro (0:00 - 1:31)
    2. Read Mode (1:31 - 2:59)
    3. Touch Mode (2:59 - 4:07)
    4. Latch Mode (4:07 - 4:43)
    5. Write Mode (4:43 - 5:36)
    6. Track and Region Automation (5:36 - 7:21)
    7. Final Thoughts (7:21 - 8:17)
The background and example music was written and produced by George Agombar.

Thank you for the video. As usual: straightforward, direct to the point and clear. With your videos, I don't need to read the Logic user manual, and listening to your beautiful voice is a plus! ;)
I wasn't aware of the region and track automation and I would certainly appreciate a video about Trim and Relative. Keep up the good job! :)

Very helpful. Question: I have a vocal section (2 words) where I created an effect using multiple automation settings. I want that effect to appear periodically throughout the song but it's not in equidistant intervals. When I use the select automation and then copy - it only copies the automation that is showing. Is there a way to copy ALL the automations, copy and paste them? Thanks.

Ooh that's a tricky question! I will have a look into it and let you know what I find!
