      Thanks for watching the video and for the feedback. I'm glad it was helpful! Happy travels and don't forget to bring extra ancillary supplies (just in case) of breaksage, waste, shortages voer the weekends where it's often difficult to get additional supplies when clinics are closed.

    Thank you for making this video. I am getting ready to start PD and I want to travel with my truck and toy hauler. I just hope that PD makes me feel better. Right now my quality of life is crap which is telling me that it is prob rime to get on dialysis.

      Glad you found it helpful. It might take some time to feel better as Kidney Failure tends to fail slowly overtime and it might take awhile on any modality of dialysis to clean out adequate wastes, toxins to start feeling better. Best to your new dialysis start and hope you are able to get back to your travels soon.

    Hello from Oregon dialysis people...
    I'm questioning travel West Coast to Vietnam and Thailand I have lived there before, maybe still have a friend or two to help. I just scheduled my PD surgery have been with DaVita on hemodialysis.
    I am assuming, sounding a little dangerous, but wouldn't any larger population area have the necessary PD supplies available at retail? Not exactly sure where to start inquiring, but my wonderful hotel in Danang is so helpful and everyone knows me. Highly recommend that location, one of the best beaches in the world, golden dragon fire breathing Bridge, giant lady Buddha statue, and the amazing marble Mountain. That's only the beginning🙏😇🙏

      Thank you for your question !!! Population size and quality of healthcare and availability of PD as a dialysis treatment options is not the same or equivalent b/t different countries which all have different laws and regulations regarding healthcare, medical supplies and medical equipment. Some of the Asian countries do not have PD, some have manual solutions only, most out of country travel would require self pay of the PD supplies since insurance coverage here in the United States tends to limit international travel coverage. I would check with your dialysis supplier's customer service number and ask to speak with a travel specialist and lead times necessary for your travel order and if they are able to support you in the destinations you are planning, freight costs, if any, etc. You will also want to look into travel insurance which includes medical emergencies to get you back to the states JIC the need arise during travels.

      Thank you for your reply and the info.. much of that is as I have learned or expected... Maybe the place to begin is with my old nephrologist in the Philippines.. DaVita dialysis here gave me some figures and we're on the edge of prohibitive just with freight plus needing to know exactly where I would be staying.. the bottom line really is I have a miserable lonely life here in USA and I had a good life in Asia that was prior to. Dialysis
      . Currently I have the cycler machine.. however it's quite a lot to lug around and I would think of just doing manual pee Dee... At the current rate I'm going I am totally broke and have zero support here in Oregon honestly don't know how I made it through winter but I don't think I'll survive another one the cold and being lonely is a miserable life.. long-term travelers expense for insurance would probably end up costing more than self-insuring.. realistically my dialysis expenses could cost 3 or $400 a month and I would still be way ahead compared to my miserable life here
      I would trust most of the medical services in Bangkok but not in Cambodia.. likely I would prefer to live in Vietnam or the phil

    How about to places like Hollywood studios

    • @KyleKChang-ji9jd
      @KyleKChang-ji9jd Před 3 měsíci

      Sorry for the delay in responding, somehow missed your comment 3 weeks ago. Can you clarify what about Hollywood studios. On PD, just be aware of extreme rides with safe waist handles that may impact your catheter. Other than that, folks may do their PD treatments in the hotel at night or bring manual solutions and plan to visit the medical center to do their manual exchanges while they are within the parks.

    Hello Kyle ! I truly appreciate your time to do this video. I am in Toronto. My husband went on Hemodialysis in 2019 Feb and on PD on June 2019. Since then we didn't travel anywhere and then covid-19 was hit. Now we are planning to travel 2021 summer (if the situation improves due to covid) within the Ontario province just to gain confidence with traveling on PD. It would be max 5-6 days. He uses Amia Baxter PD cycler.
    My few questions are, where do I find the PD cycler travel bag you showed on the video to carry the cycler safely? Do we have to inform his medical team about our short trip? Do we ask Baxter to deliver the solution bags on the location for that short trip? Or do you suggest him to do Manual exchanges for that period of time. I made a list of things he needs for his treatments like mini caps, masks, clean cloths, sanitizer etc. Please suggest me how can I make this short trip joyful for him? Thank you.

      Hi Nina, Thanks for watching the video and what great questions! Yes, do let your clinic know of your travel plans, either your PD nurse or social worker at the clinic should be able to help guide you better as to how their clinic's protocols work with Baxter on travel orders. I was trained to contact Baxter customer service on my own and you can certainly go that route first as well if your clinic staff are heard to reach. Baxter has clinic and patient profiles of how they can assist you or if they need to get authorization from your PD clinic. The travel case I got for Amia was on sale at Macy's - just the generic travel sized allowed for carry ones should fit the Amia as that cycler is very compact. Call ahead to your cruise line or hotel to find out their particular protocols on shipping medical supplies ahead of your arrival. Have fun booking and planning your trip ! Let me know how things go, take lots of pics and share on my FB page KidneyJourneys.com

    Morning!
    Traveling international soon. Skeptical about flight delays/cancelation, receiving supplies at hotel etc. Can we (PD patients) check-in a small amount of supplies (Multiple 2L bags in a separate luggage) with airlines? Any experience with that?

    • @KidneyJourneys
      @KidneyJourneys  Před 2 lety +1

      Great question Jacqueline, yes most airlines would allow you to check your solution. Some restrictions and limitations with certain airlines and there maybe be a bit of charge for foreign travel. Would recommend that you keep solution medical supplies for PD in it's own seprate case and some airlines do waive that as a medical bag w/o additional charge. I would recommend that you contact your airline through the reservation and ask to speak with Medical Travel / Special needs desk to get their specific allowances. Plan extra time for baggage check in and TSA by arriving to the airport early for your departures.
      Flight delays and cancellations may certainly be an unexpected factor outside of PD. Hope this helps, let me know if you have more questions Thanks for watching and for your question.

    What is the best luggage for a liberty cycler?

    • @KidneyJourneys
      @KidneyJourneys  Před 3 lety

      My apologies, I thought that I had replied to this before. Fresenius sells travel cases for the Liberty cycler. You home dialysis clinic also often is able to loan out a case. You would measure the dimensions if you wish to buy your own and Pelican makes nice hard cases with foam padding that you can search prices online. I had Pelican 5160 for my Baxter Home Choice which has similar dimensions as the Liberty cycler.

    Hello! Can I pack my cycler in the luggage along with my clothes and all that so I don’t have to use multiple bags? Thanks in advance

    • @KidneyJourneys
      @KidneyJourneys  Před 3 lety +2

      Thank you for this question @claudia Rubes - You actually want to keep your cycler and medical supplies packed separately from your own personal clothes and other belongings. The reason is that in the US, airlines do not charge for medical equipment under DOT (Department of Transportation) and ADA regulations. International travel may vary by destination and airline you are traveling with as the other countries may have different laws or no laws pertaining to travelers with a disability. You will want to call the airline you are traveling with and speak with their medical travel assistance desk via the reservations or passenger services line to let them code your reservation ahead of your travels so employees and counter/gate agents at the airports can see this note on your ticket notes. Also, please to arrive early for your flight as you may need to wait in line or have secondary screening with TSA when traveling with your cycler.

    • @claudiiuh
      @claudiiuh Před 3 lety

      @@KidneyJourneys thank you for the response.. so what your saying is if I pack my suitcase with the cycler in it with my clothes etc they will then have to charge me? I was thinking of just covering the cycler with a bag and then put it in the suitcase and properly add my clothes. My trip is not international it’s domestic. I already ordered the shipment of my bags to the place.

    • @KidneyJourneys
      @KidneyJourneys  Před 3 lety

      @@claudiiuh not sure which cycler you have, but usually takes up most of the space . If its separate medical bag, its not counted against the allowance of your ticket type. And yes, its possible to incur a charge.

      @@KidneyJourneys so I have the Amia cycler. Pretty compact and small, deff fits in my luggage that’s why I said if it would be ok to just take one luggage and have the cycler in there.

      @KidneyJourneys  Před 3 lety +1

      @@claudiiuh I have used and traveled with the AMIA. Always in a separate case with my ancillary supplies and cassettes packed with the cycler. You are welcome to pack persona items and clothing, just don't expect the airline to necessarily waive it due to medical --- it would be at their discretion when packing in the way you suggest. Happy Travels.

    • @KidneyJourneys
      @KidneyJourneys  Před 2 lety +1

      There are many online support groups that I can recommend being a part of joining via Facebook and from there, you might post the city or region where you reside as ways to connect with folks locally. I would also recommend asking your own dialysis clinic social worker to see if there may be something more local to you as well. Sometimes it's hard, especially still during COVID times for in person support groups, thus over the years, I found the online a bit more convenient. Hope that helps

    Hello from rainy foggy oregon, Currently on p d dialysis.. At home is much better and the only problem is I don't want to live in u. S I want to get back to asia, Likely Thailand Vietnam. Possibly philippines..
    I would likely be there more than four months and last time was a year.. So I'm in the dilemma to figure out whether to pay expensive shipping from Baxter or.
    Find the asian supplier. Does anyone have experience in Asian dialysis? I stress p don't need a clinic. I don't need doctors. I'm very healthy otherwise. This is not hemodialysis. Any advice much appreciated thank you🙏😇🙏

    • @KyleKChang-ji9jd
      @KyleKChang-ji9jd Před 3 měsíci

      Usually in Asian countries many have to self pay for their PD supplies and they often do not use cyclers. But supplies still tend to require a prescription to purchase beyond the government allowances. These timeframes would be too long for regular travel orders and expensive to ship. U.S. clinics also need to collect monthly labs and quarterly clearance labs to ensure your treatments are keeping you health enough with medical documented data.
