Great review! I picked up on the leather note in this whiskey as well and even a bit of pipe tobacco. I absolutely love this whiskey!

I'm a new subscriber to your channel and really enjoying your videos. I'm a whiskey novice so I especially enjoy the bits of history you bring to the table while discussing the bottle. Thanks to you I picked this one up yesterday here in the US and it was about $70 which isn't too bad in 2023 for being in a small town with inflation as high as it is while looking for a specific imported Irish whiskey. I haven't sipped it yet but I'm really looking forward to it. Keep up the good work!

Have to say I've been a bit of a snob avoiding powers thinking it to be an old man's drink but will definitely be adding these two to my collection, a daily sipper and one for those special occasions. Sláinte ☘️

Thank ya for that; good review. I've yet to drink this one. I thoroughly enjoyed a bottle of Green Spot a few months ago and also had a glass of Redbreast 12 at that time and I was personally disappointed with the Redbreast in comparison. Very much looking forward to giving the John's Lane a go. Fortunately we have a good online whisky merchant here in France.

A Sheáin: Regarding the boom and bust of Irish whiskey, I am an American of Irish decent who is conversational As Gaeilge and I have been exploring whiskey since 2014.
I find it sad and unfortunate that the Irish government in the 1920s did not create its own distribution network for whiskey after having been eliminated from the British system as a result of "independence". As you state, Irish whiskey was the most popular whiskey of the time. Sadly the U.S.. market was closed as a result of Prohibition, yet if the Irish had developed their own distribution network, like any other soverign nation, the economy of Ireland would have been strengthened, more jobs created and less emigration, with an increase again when Prohibition ended in the U.S. leading to more jobs and funds to strengthen the rest of the economy; hence a stronger independent Ireland! Sadly a missed opportunity IMO!

Go raibh míle maith agatse leis an athbhreithniú! Tá mé ag taiteanmh as Powers Johns Lane 12 freisin anocht!
I am down to the last 1/4 of my bottle so air has mixed with the whiskey. Here are my notes!
    Is mise le meas
    Mike
POWERS Johns Lane 12 year old Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey
    10/30/21
46% ABV, NCF, aged in a combination of bourbon casks and Oloroso sherry casks; longer in bourbon casks?
Last 1/4 of the bottle, so air has mixed with the spirit.
COLOR: Dark Gold, Legs running variously.
NOSE: Spicy with a hint of honey
PALATE: Light Honey on arrival with a velvety mouthfeel. Pepper rises as it sits on my tongue, but there is a light honey as I swirl it and the mouth coating gets thicker. The pepper is light.
FINISH: Drying with rising pepper spice with a hint of honey with a drying in the end.
With 1 drop of spring water
    NOSE: Nothing to describe.
PALATE: Light sugary sweetness with light spiciness. The mouthfeel is a bit thinner. Pepper rises as I swirl it.
FINISH: A sugary sweet note followed by sharp pepper spice.
Air has combined with this whiskey and I enjoyed the light honey notes neat; in addition to, the velvety mouthfeel. and the sharp pepper notes in the finish with one drop of water. I did not add a 2nd drop of water because air filled most of the bottle and opened the whiskey. This is a very enjoyable toiscán!! I enjoyed the delicate notes!
