- You pull your car ramps out just to find that they will hit under your bumper before they can lift the car. In order to not drag your bumper across the ramps and hurt your car, here is a simple fix for your ramps to make then work (Warning use caution )
- Auta a dopravní prostředky
Well explained. Simple - I like simple. No "music'. All in all, one of the best-explained videos out there, Thanks.
This looks like a great way to avoid using the new style plastic ramps. I've read way too many stories of plastic ramps breaking, don't ever have to worry about a metal ramp. Thanks!
Yes I would not be a fan of sliding under a car held up by plastic. I am sure that they have tested them out..but for my peace of mind, I'll stick with steel
They said the same thing about polymer pistols but they're stronger than steel. I have a full size truck I put on plastic ramps to get under for maintenance because of where the oil filter is and my long arms. That said it's not something I would go with some cheap chinese knockoff ebay versions of.
Straight and simple. great idea. If you need to go longer you can put a piece of your 2x8 underneath as a brace to keep it from breaking.
Awesome video. Just what I needed. Thank you sir 🙏🏼
You are welcome. I am glad it helped
"Too low". Cool! Thanks for this awesome to tip! Amazing!
thanks for viewing... also I had not noticed the typo but fixed it now
Thanks for the video. In addition to providing more ramp clearance for low vehicles, that board pressing down on the metal ramps, with the weight of the front tires rolling on it, should help stop the ramps from skidding across the floor. At least I hope it does, since the only way I've been able to use my metal ramps on my garage floor in the past was to jack the vehicle up and then slide the ramps under the tires. That's not always easy to do, especially with a low vehicle.
You make a great point, I never even thought about it until I read your post here. but now that I am thinking about it, Yeah I don't remember the ramps ever sliding when using the boards with them and they would have an extra point of contact that's not metal. They is a lift that is made just for lawnmowers that goes under the front tires and lifts
Brilliant idea and so simple. Thanks. I will try this
You're welcome
Thank you very much for this excellent tip. I had abandoned my plan to replace the aircon compressor myself & have to pay a garage instead. Not anymore! 😄
You're welcome, I am glad it helped
Thank you for the video. The tip worked great for me !
You're welcome. glad it helped
Simple but effective, thank you sir.
You are welcome.
Beautifully done. Thanks for the video
Thanks.
You could use bolts instead of screws. No sharp edges on a bolt.
Great video.
True. but the thread on these goes through wood much quicker and the points on the end help line up with the ramp holes faster........plus these were what I had on hand at the time.
Simple but brilliant. Thanks!
You are welcome. Thanks for watching
Thanks man. Great idea.

Thanks for sharing your innovative idea!!

I still have my metal ramps I bought when I was a teenager (I'm 74 now) and I Thought of the same Idea when I got my 1st Civic about 20 years ago. I don't have those holes in mine so I screw the wood right to there ramp. I tapered the wood on the ends to transition a little smoother. Used them twice in the last two weeks, new starter and oil change on Corolla. Thanks for the video.
Great post. Thanks
Much respect to you for still being able to wrench on your own stuff!!
@@FLINTmitten810 Thanks. I try to keep moving, for one to sit still is to stagnate
Thank you for the hack!
Thanks. I will be using that same set this week when I look at the motor mounts of a 1999
Honda accord
Good idea, Thanks for sharing. - take care
Thanks. As for the take care... I am thinking about trying to get back in shape, and doing a few live streams, but time will tell.
🙂 good tip for old school ramps

You have any suggestion for ramps for changing riding lawn mower blades? I have the old style metal ramps like you have, but useless when working underneath lawn mower.
The best thing to do with most riding mower when you want to change the blades ( or sharpen them )
is to just let the all the was down then remove the mower deck. take note of how it is setup and take a photo or video of it and then just remove it because it is not really hard at all there are about 5 clips that will need to be pulled out and make sure that the cable ( in most cases they have a cable ) that engages the blade is unhooked as well, then just pull the whole deck out of one side ( you may have to move the raise handle back up some to keep the parts from hitting as you pull the deck out. but then you will be able to really see what your deck looks like and give it a good cleaning and pull the blades and give them a proper sharpening. but as far as ramps for the mower, no I do not know of any, I would just stick a 4x4 board under each tire making sure it would not roll off or use something like and engine lift to left up the front. I have a "drive 13023sv hydraulic patient lift" that I purchased from habitat for 20 dollars and it works great for these kind of jobs
Works on plastic Walmart type rhino ramps too.. Just drill 2 holes.... advertised as "Stronger than steel 12k pound..so fine for my Camry
Good to know
What kinds of wood would you recommend for horizontal strength. I was thinking about picking up either Douglas fir or cedar
I just used pine ( fir ) but I keep it in my building and out of the rain. I also check it before each use to make sure it is not cracking in any way. Cedar would resist water better but cost more either way it is better to not make real long ramps as it will be weaker and when ones uses long boards then the boards get in the way on the sides entrance area.
Make sure to always chock rear tires as an extra safety precaution.
Good advice.
lol i just did all of this only to remember since my car was in a accident there is no more front bumper so i didnt need it lol but great idea
Thanks for the laugh
great!
Thanks.
may i know where can i get these wood board
home depot
What style and size bolts or screw ?
Just some I have in stock. I think they were 3/8 inch. hope this helps ( they are i there to keep the board from sliding down the ramp )
The wood thickness is 1 1/2?
The board is called a 2x10 at lumber yards but of course that is not the real size.. it is 1 1/2 thick by 9 1/8 ( like the way a standard 2x4 is really 1 1/2 by 3 1/2 ) There was a time when a 2 by 4 really did measure out to that size and you can run up on this in some building over 60 years old.
I messed up. My wood boards were strong enough, but the nails simply bend 90 degrees and what happened was is the bords simply slipped away all the way to the back of the car. I hit the metal ramp with my bumper and well, got a bunch of scratches at the bottom, fuck
Yes scratches are not good, but as long as it gives use more knowledge then these bad things that happen to each and every one of use can be turned into a good thing.
just add stepping stones, I have a video on it
Thank you so much I've been needing to swap my cats out but couldn't get my fatass under my little car and my ramps were to Short like advertised thanks again great vid.
You are welcome. the new low version of ramps just don't cut it. Yes the car will go onto them but I don't go under the car... so what good are they really. so I will just keep my old one
Everything about this guy screams gangster ass grandpa 😂
