- We just got some of our first spoilers for Duskmourn House of Horror, and there's some crazy new cards that you might want to add to your commander (EDH), standard, modern, pioneer, or other format decks. Let's talk about 3 of those cards that are particularly weird, powerful, and/or unique.

Doomsday Excruciator…yuck. Time to polish off those stifle effects.
Imagine if it was a legendary creature.... Commander players... Oh god
just counter it, you dont even need stifle.
K’rrik just got a new pet to play with
They've really been incentivizing stifle effects lately
Im just going to morph my way into stealing it xD
Fun fact! Return back wrong takes a commander due to the wording! As a commander is more than likely a creature and it does state return it to the field from the graveyard keep in mind a commander going to the command zone is a state based action. So it will have to happen once this card resolves. And due to the timing it will be in the graveyard before it has a chance to go to the command zone.
No it isn't, it would never go to the graveyard, the rule States if it would go to any of these places it goes to your command zone instead if you choose, so it never touches the graveyard
@thatbrobrax Actually it does. The rules for a commander going to the command zone start like this. If it goes to the deck, the graveyard or is exiled, once all effects on the stack are resolved you then get the CHOICE to move it to the command zone. For example look at Obzedat ghost council, or any creature with escape like Phlage Titan of fires fury or Kroxa titan of hungers death. The commander ABSOLUTELY hit the graveyard. You simple get a choice to move it once all effects are done afterwards. BUT again. Due to the wording of return back wrong. You'd steal a commander. In fact we already have one card famous for this! Necromantic selection! The mtg rules committee even released ruling for that card saying that YES it CAN take a commander.
@@littlehorror1057 youre right besides library. Hand and library are hidden zones and thats why there is a replacement effect. For graveyard or exile it goes there first like you said
Come back wrong flavour text is giving me Evil Dead vibes
It's likely inspired by it. Cursed recording is based on one of the SCPs so it seems like alot of horror fans will love it.
@@DUxMORTEMCursed Recording is based on 'The Ring'. Y'know, seven days until you die and a cursed video tape?
@@LilyTheOtteryea that’s what I was going to say it’s definitely based on that not a scp.
The name and the regular art also give that vibe
The name and the regular art also give that vibe
All I can say is HOLY BOLAS THE FLAVOR OF THIS SET MY GOD
I'm really liking it. The Gothic horror from Innistrad was cool, but this is bringing me back to the horror I loved as a child. I didn't think I'd like it as much when I heard it was haunted mansion themed, but it looks like they're expanding beyond that theme and including many other elements from that era of horror. When all these sets were initially revealed I thought that OTJ was the most thematically interesting, but I have high hopes for this one. I'll probably just sleep through Bloomburrow, honestly.
You got no swag. This flavor is more reminiscent of fortnite than analog horror.
@@TodayNot
Oh, an edgelord. 🤓☝
@@MrDamojak Lol how am I anywhere near as edgy as these corny ass cards?
This set is clearly designed by some millenial edge queen who wrote/read cringe creepypastas in early 2010s. We are but a few years away from Skibidi toilet core set at this point.
Have some standards or at least self respect, you are what you consume.
@@TodayNot Oh, boy. The irony😬
The problem with Come Back Wrong is it doesn't give the creature Haste, so you can't smack people with it. It's pretty much only good for EtB and LtB triggers.
as a reanimation spell it's bad, as a removal spell it has potential
I was thinking forced draw for that Excuciator so I can ACTUALLY *instantly* win rather than waiting for each person to get an upkeep.
One Ring to Rule Them All + Lord of Extinction is already a wincon in my self mill deck.
Doomsday Excruciator + One Ring to Rule Them All works to win in the same way. It conveniently has exact power you need to mill everyone to 0.
@@bricknolty5478 My point was he said instantly win and when you mill someone out they don't lose until they have to draw.
Kaalia of the Vast: "What restrictive mana cost? 😅"
It has to be cast so cheating it into play will not work
Obeka eatin good with come back wrong
I cannot wait to put cursed recording in my rowan deck talk about adding gasoline to the fire
I'm convinced WOTC has no faith in Bloomburrow because I have seen almost nothing about that set since it's been announced.
It really sucks
@@XadowXen Why does it suck? I started with mtg this month but I've heard that a lot of people are looking forward to it
@@vahitcantekin2618 no I mean it really sucks we're already getting duskmourne stuff and Bloomburrows being buried
@@vahitcantekin2618 it will be released after Modern Horizone 3, which is a pretty big attention black hole for the MTG community. I bet it will not be polissemia as other sets. I don't think outlaws a d karlov mannor were very polished too
@@XadowXen ah like that, I'm actually really hesitating between getting Bloomburrow, Modern horizons 3 or Quick draw. Since there are so many releases I have no idea what to buy. I came into mtg because of Fallout and wondering what else I should buy
Come Back Wrong is ideal for Obeka, Brute Chronologist decks. And because of its wording, it can even steal commanders since there's no window for the owner to put it back in the command zone once it starts resolving!
Deflecting Palm with Cursed Recording is going to be hilarious.
You need to reread deflecting palm.
I am in LOVE with the VHS showcase frames
Excruciator honestly seems great at dunking on slower combo and value piles.
Unless they've tutored for Thoracle already, its just gone. Likewise, it's hard to go off with Nadu if you've only got 6 cards in your deck.
DuskMourn??? First I’ve heard of it.
When people can’t even get actual cards from Bloomburrow… you have it. Crazy
Yeah these are only a few cards revealed for the first look- some Bloomburrow cards were also just revealed. Bloomburrow also had the same amount of cards revealed for its first look in the first MagicCon of the year
There are only 8 weeks between BLB and DSK. It was also announced today that there's another Standard set coming out in November that is going to act like the core sets of old (4ED through 10E) that will stay in Standard through to rotation in 2029.
This weekend was a con where they revealed cards from a few upcoming sets, including Bloomburrow. We also already got an early look at Bloomburrow cards awhile ago.
I thought this set was more spooky haunted house. But is it more 80s analog horror?
Yup! 80's slasher inspired.
@@DaftPanda1 hopefully leaning more into the rental store trash instead of the big stuff
Cursed Recording would go nicely with Displacer Kitten. Clear the counters and untap it, basically just becomes Swarm Intelligence.
To be fair, everything goes crazy with Displacer Kitten so that doesn't say much.
Thoracle is gonna have fun with Doomsday Excruciator
Doomsday excruciatorism is a thassa's Oracle tool, because we needed more
Worldsoul rage decks are gonna be happy with the red artifact.
Entomb/Reanimate+Doomsday +excruciator and wheel and deal this card could go insane
COP Red would be fine with that cursed TV too if you're playing Boros. (And it'd be legal in your format of course.)
Love, love, love cards with real downsides instead of all upside. A 4 mana artifact that lets you double a spell every turn for six turns is super good, and only gets better if your deck can either get the counters or doesn't care too much about the 20 damage to the face.
even if Doomsday Excruciator is not cast, he makes Gary happy...
Kinda happy that my Doctor Who deck is still getting support here and there with Time Counters making random appearance in sets lately
Finally, another final piece of the puzzle. NOW Stuffy Doll and Pariah Shield combo will actually definitely maybe work!
Cursed Recording as a reference to the Ring franchise is nice (Seven dayyyssss)
It's worth noting with Doomsday Excruciator you're drawing double cards, so need an anti-lose mechanic, or a win con off it
Come back wrong is going straight into Ratadrabik though, great way to steal someone's commander and make a token after sacrificing the original
If there’s a reliable way to give the Come Back Wrong’d creature haste, it’d be dope as hell in a Beast Deathless Prince deck
Cursed recording sounds great in a pact weapon & repay in kind deck
That last one could be good in master multiplied.
....so we have another horror plane or are we revisiting inistrad
New plane, this one is based on modern horror instead of Gothic Horror.
Excruciatir seems perfect for a Phenax deck
Nice little turn 1 win condition
I’d just run Doomsday in my Kaalia deck. Not only do I have to not ever worry about the cast cost or the etb mill, I get free card draw.
There are way better things you could put into play for draw
The green mythic that is basically better farhaven elf is absurd
Come back wrong seems quite good and versatile in ratadrabik
I'm throwing a Pariah's Shield onto a Brash Taunter and slinging ALL of the bolts I can. We're putting them Cursed Recordings into a cascade deck with that in there and wreaking havoc.
Come back wrong is insane in OG obeka holy crap.
Bottom 6 eh.. There's a certain card named Forced Fruition that force draws 7 cards on Spell cast. Opponents only too. XD
This reminds me I need to pick up a copy of Kokusho.
Come back wrong will probably be good in a grist voracious larva deck
Cursed Recording: I offer great power at a terrible price!
Goblin Welder: All power, no price, take it or leave it
Did I miss something, or are there tvs in a non-ub set?
Just wait till you hear about the mech drones and computer terminals they had in Kamigawa!
Gonna be honest, completely forgot about Neon Dynasty for a second
Could use cursed recording in a way where self damage also hurts enemy and win that way
Or with donate effects
Man i love that set already
Love that demon. Considering I have a demon deck that screws up anyone, including myself.
Cursed recording seems interesting in a gifting deck.
I’m genuinely excited for the upcoming sets (excluding assassins creed) I love cute and horror
Doomsday excruciator wou go right into a nekusar edh deck.
6 black pips is TAXING though
If I get that demon cast against me, I'm scooping and never playing with that person again hahahaha
Yeah.... It ends the game and makes most every action taken up to that point irrelevant, much like Sway of the Stars does. I wouldn't be surprised if it's banned for the same reason.
Don't be a 😺
Bro I ain’t even got lost caverns of ixalan an yet😢
The demon with tiny bones and any mill pings kills so fast
?
Hmmm Doomsday Excruciator…
K’rrik: pay 12 life.
Pariah shield with stuffy doll he become a killer for 4 mana lol 20 damage to a choosen opponent for each 7 spell
6 black is 6B, BBBBBB is blackblackblackbl ok maybe i understand sayingn 6 black mana
Except the time travel would just remove the counter that just got put on there from casting the spell ._.
Not if the time travel is from an ability (like the tenth doctor's)
@@tazaf that is true, though the example they gave was not XD
Doomsday Excruclator is way to powerful it will see a ban.
what the actual fuck is a duskmourne?
its a plane that is entirely in 1 house
Kind of like aurora borealis contained entirely in Skinners Kitchen
Cursed recording+harmless offering
Edit
Stuffy doll+pariah for bonus points
I didn’t even think about that, and now it’s all I can think about.
Time to dust off the old bazaar gifts deck.
@@MTGRecontbh it was the first thing I thought of, bc passing the cursed video to other people so you don't get cursed yourself is a common hook for horror
It's basically the ring, right?
"You have seven instant/sorceries left before you die" samara
I'm not very into the Formats of Magic i only know that universes beyond aren't legal on almost every format but this expansion and Bloom are legals on wich format?
Bloomburrow (in August) and Duskmourn (November) are the next two Standard sets which means they'll be legal in everything.
@@chelgoth thankd
Master multiplied is going to loovvvee come back wrong
Duskmoore? Does that mean Scarecrow, or is it wholly distinct from Shadowmoore?
Is it just me or are the words "the battlefield" missing from the etb description of doomsday?
Yep, they don't add that anymore since it was unnecessary
@@Kristjan0209 id prefer if the card says when "this" enters rather than saying the card name multiple times in a text box as some card names are quite long and the way it's templated could be construed as triggering when any card of that name enters
Tbh doomsday excruciator is terrible for the single reason of its ABSURD mama cost. You will never get that much black mama in one game, even in mono black (at least in time for this to be useful)
Doomsday Excruciator is seeing ONLY play in K’rrik
Oh it literally is a one card combo with k’rrik
@JazzyAnasazi not really since you need something else or you are going to die first
@@Kristjan0209 altar of dementia is an option with K'rrik + Doomsday Excruciator as a combo.
dread summons can do the trick too. so can fascination, folio of fancies, fractured sanity, helm of obedience, jace, memory adept's ultimate, i can keep looking but i think you get the idea.
@@JazzyAnasazi yep I get the idea that it's a 2 card combo plus commander
Come back wrong is a card that's gonna be legal in Standard?
Man how many fuckin sets are coming out lmfao can’t keep track of
This set will be in autumn
Yeah this is cool BUT THEY JUAT RELEASED MODERN HORIZONS 3 WE CAN WAIT
Why can’t card like this be odd so I can cheat it out with yennet
So many games will end in a draw from that demon because players will just find it funny to drop it without actually winning the game
Didn't we JUST get Assassin's Creed spoilers? We're getting two spoilers at the same time? 😭
So tv’s are apart of magic now?
I mean, technically speaking, any plane where the residents have harnessed electricity has the potential to have TVs and what-not.
They already did cyberpunk everything is on the table
Cyberpunk Japan and aliens that turn everyone into cyborgs are ok, but TV is too much?
@@shrekkek9396 I know. I'll never understand this community. At all.
We fuck with cowboys, mechs, computer terminals, and dragsters, but a TV is too far?
Fucking stupid. Truly.
Oh look new cards...
wait what happened to bloomburrow?
This was just a little sneak peek
@@Kristjan0209 ah right, it’s just all so confusing with releases. i love magic and all the new fun stuff but constant spoilers out of order is driving me crazy
can‘t you just flicker cursed recording?
I thought it was pronounced ko-ku-sho, not koku-sho
How are we getting spoilers already again
It's just a sneak peek for that set. This is nothing new we often get a few cards before we are even close to spoiler season
Huh? What happened to Bloomburrow? what the fk is Duskmourn house of horror???
It was a set announced a while ago and we just got a little sneak peek together with some spoilers for bloomburrow
Naw naw card 1 and mill crab, evolving wilds
I think , WOTC needs to ban this in every deck
TVs in magic 😢
Neon dynasty
I'm seeing three reasons to not come back to MTG
Didnt know about this set until now. Those look fun
They were revealed like an hour ago, so that makes sense
These arts look ai generated
Not a fan of TVs in MTG.
Neon dynasty
@@Kristjan0209 wasn't a fan of Magic: the Ghost in the Shell.
@@TheSkizz89 sure but I think it would silly to make the lore of magic around traveling to different worlds but highly limiting the kinds of worlds they can be
@@Kristjan0209 Considering the MTG lore began from a D&D fan's gaming group, before it was expanded to incorporate golem-like mech suits while an invasion of creatures that were the (un)love(d) child between a xenomorph and cenobite, your statement isn't out of the ordinary.
The problem isn't the fact that TVs couldn't exist, it's that several of the past sets are just amalgamations of pop culture or movie genres.
Magic: Neon Genesis
Magic: the Godfather
Magic: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Now Magic: the Slashering.
It comes off as lazy at best, or at worse pulling a big bang theory. Referencing other pop culture and saying "remember this?"
Another new set? Really?
Art sucks though
Literally some of the best artworks in a while...
These cards are garbage 🗑️
This set is all I ever wanted from modern MTG
Cursed Recordings can be fixed by using Slobad Iron Golem and regain some red mana
