      Well in the old days I got a new well it had 7k miles 1979 Trans Am with a 6.6 liter V8. It was considered as a really fast over powered sports car. So it had like 200 hp and was heavy. 0 to 60 in 6.6 seconds. Now we have this super light car with 228 hp and sub 6 second 0 to 60 times plus it handle’s curves. How spoiled are we?

    I was watching some other guy's video on the 5 things he loved -- stopped watching when he started talking about liking the automatic transmission, and blocked his channel (JK). I just did my first autocross with Spokes at COTA a couple weeks ago - I'm hooked. I want to stay in D street for at least a season to really learn the car before I do any serious mods - spend a little money and you'll just put yourself in a more competitive class where everyone else has outspent you. I am adding some 4-point seat belts from OMP just for that snug feeling while driving. Just splurged and got the RaceBox Mini 25hz GPS and an OBDLink MX+ to use with RaceChrono Pro (one of few apps that supports both of those) so I can capture data and make some cool vids.
    One thing that disappointed me: the OBD2 data doesn't include the brake pressure, or steering angle, which I know that the car knows because it displays it on the G meter. This data was apparently available on the Gen1 cars but not the 2022. The good news is that Timurrrr come up with a DIY hack to read the CAN bus so that this data can also be captured with RaceChrono!

    Nice to hear more impressions, my 2017 UK GT86 has a lot of the interior gauge functions, although the individual PSI on the 2022 GR 86/BRZ is really cool. Design wise agree new ones look good a bit softer looking, I like it but agree with others rear lights a bit NSX C1 like. That Subaru app looks pretty nice. Extra horsepower must be nice as you say keyword is it is still fun to drive.

  • @Denverian
    @Denverian Před 2 lety +1

    I sat and played with the interior on 2022 premium manual BRZ past weekend. I have 2015 limited manual BRZ and definitely lots of good updates over 1st gen. Haven't driven one but spec wise power train upgrades are totally worthy it as well. 1st gen was somewhat controversial due to engine torque dip and some drawbacks that Subaru improved over time. The 2nd gen (really 1.5 gen...) fixed lots of the issues finally deserves to be number one sportscar in the price range.

I'd buy it in a second but it's too small and because I can't afford 3 cars, the Subaru is a more sensible choice for an everyday ride.

      You should really drive one first before committing to that swap. They’re such different cars, your personal preference is going to play into it a lot. They aren’t really directly comparable in a fair manner. The 997 was probably around $90k new 10+ years ago and still a $50k+ car today, so it’s a completely different $ ballpark than a JDM $30k sports car in 2022. Maybe you’ll love the BRZ/GR86 more because it has a lot of Pros, but maybe the less expensive nature of the car will annoy you. Again, your personal preference will come into play, and no one can tell you how you feel better than yourself. So figure out what you’re looking for, don’t ask other people what is best for you.

    how’s the understeer on this car? really interested in what owners of the new gen have to say, many say there’s a lot more understeer than previous gen, while a couple say it’s not really noticeable

    • @iloveg37
      @iloveg37 Před 2 lety

      It’s not noticeable on the BRZ, on the GR86 you will notice it due to the difference in the suspension differences. The BRZ feels more stable allowing for more confidence turning hard at higher speeds, while the GR86 is more understeery and easier to slip at higher speeds

    Why hasnt Subaru addressed the 4k rpm torque dip. Is it less noticeable on the new car?

    • @TypeVertigo
      @TypeVertigo Před 2 lety +4

      They already have. Look at dyno charts of the FA20 vs the FA24 and you will see the dip has been 90% removed. It's not the deal breaker it used to be, and it's mainly down to better flow on the FA24 as per the StratifiedAuto channel. They have also experimented with equal length vs unequal length headers. According to their tests, UEL is better for daily driving and gets rid of more of the dip, EL is better for top-end where it still has some of the torque dip but the FA24 makes so much more torque everywhere that it's not a concern any more

    Is there a reason why you're over 3000rpm for cruising? I'd be between 1000rpm to 2000rpm for the same drive in my 2.0na Civic.

    • @jamiegarth3146
      @jamiegarth3146 Před 2 lety +1

      Below 2000 rpm is usually lugging the engine and the car makes way more torque 3000 rpm and higher so it’s just more fun to have it like that. Similar to a Miata, these engines spin at over 3000 rpm on the highway anyway so they can rev all day long no issues

    • @Zygrene
      @Zygrene  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah, very little torque below 3000. On the highway you don't have a choice due to the gearing.

    • @psewgobind
      @psewgobind Před 2 lety

      @@Zygrene Oh well, I think I'd liked like the car better if it had my K20C2 engine. 0-60 would suffer but combined consumption would be closer to 30mpg and cruising around the city would be brainless with usable low down torque. Perhaps the Japanese should also do a Honda/Subaru mutt for the BRZ.
