Honestly, hot take, what I don't like about Ei isn't even about her lol.
I think Yae Miko has had a huge influence on the fandom's perception of her and her mental health issues. Like, there's only one scene where Yae has an emotional dialogue about Ei, the rest is just her playful personality.
Their dynamic was definitely not well worked on by Hoyoverse, it could have been much more, even though it yields some comical moments. I like her personality, but it just doesn't work when it comes into contact with the type of character Ei is supposed to be in the narrative. I just roll my eyes.

Inazuma's Archon Quest were the most ambitios when it is came to contemporal happenings but it is fail the biggest as well. 1) "She's not evil" this depends on what each person perceive as evil, because depending on an people's moral set, she can be classified as evil during the archon quest. She by the end of the archon quest admit she knew all along about the Fatui tricking the shogun, and quess what they were tricking the shogun about... the war, so Ei knew all along about the war and did nothing, the same war that as we see in the Inazuma comercial street bulletin board had every family being forced to send at least one adult, the same war that was so brutal the blood spilled was enough to bring back an previously extinct espicies(source: description of dendrobium). She also accepted the decree that locked up the foreigners for no good reasson(and even though she was not the one Who ordered the people to scam and economically explore the foreigners to the point of almost making them starve to death, she was the one Who approved the law that putted them into this situation without actually Caring for the impact it would have on the foreigners and the money that was stolen now belongs to Inazuma and thus Ei, and yet she did not give back an single mora).
      2) "She was supossed to be an warrior not an leader" Which would be an good excuse... where it not for the fact that just because she received the title of archon does not mean SHE has to rule, after all she knew Venti and Morax, so she would know that Celestia is perfectly ok with the Archon not actually ruling the land, so she did not receive any forced obligation, so she could still be just an warrior working under someone Who knows how to rule well, her being the leader was her choice and not something forced into her.

@@joaopedrobenicio8283Ei didn’t say she knew about the war. She stated that she knew everything pertaining eternity. Perhaps it’s just the bad writing, but Kujo whateverhisname was also admitted to tricking the shogun by not sending her accurate letters. We have no idea whether she said that because she was too stubborn to believe she was tricked. And it doesn’t help that we were also never told what classifies as “related to eternity”. There were obviously big things about the entire situation she still didn’t know about, considering that at the end of her first story quest she admits to being tricked in a way. Either way, she and Inazuma are pretty badly written. And while I still found it and her enjoyable, there were definetly better ways of explaining the story. Apart from that, I believe everything else you said was right. She didn’t have to lead the nation, but from her voice lines, personality and trauma, I’d find it hard to believe that she wouldn’t lead it. She had a self-obligation of filling Makoto shoes, and even if the writing didn’t make it obvious she still cares about Inazuma and it’s people. Even if her view’s were deraded along the way

Here’s hoping we get more Inazuma lore with the Electro Sovereign, as aside from Tsurumi Island murals and Enkanomiya, Inazuma seems largely disconnected from the rest of the Seven Nations with how they relate to Celestia. We don’t even know what or who the statue was supposed to represent, why Ei decided to place all the visions on it, or why Istaroth broke time and interfered so much there (hell, we got more info about Istaroth in Inazuma than even in Mondstadt).

    Worst written.
I don't like her, but I think she was scared.
She made Makoto an archon because she knew she couldn't do the job right (so sure of it that she killed herself to make sure Makoto could won).
When she had no choice, she got scared and panicked and let her grief rule her.
That actually would have been a fantastic story, if it had been properly written.
They needed the 5 act structure for Inazuma.
But it was only barely 3 proper acts, a date quest where she then spanked one of the heirs of the Kujou clan, and THEN an attempt to make up for the bad writing in her second story quest.
Which was too late to try to salvage it.
She and Kokomi suffered the most from this bad writing.
Ayaka and Ayato also suffered from it, him more than his sister, because his roll in getting the resistance there to help traveler was only shown in his friggen trailer!
Not explained at all in the damn quests itself.
All of these characters were severely shafted in the writing.
But yeah, like I said: I don't like her much.
    Barely at all.
But she was scared and suffering from a loss she couldn't properly process and the writing did not deal with that sort of content correctly.
Especially when they tried to stick to the 3 act format.
The story outline was far too involved, more so that Liyue or Mondstadt, they should have KNOWN it was going to need more acts.

Personally I consider it as her knowing but the writers later on try to ignore it because addressing it properly while maintaining the "waifu" narrative would cost too much time. I consider it despite her characater quests contradicting it because well, her character quests alredy contradict a LOT of lore(an few exemples: 1- When she says in her first quest that she never wanted her eternity to avoid humam live from changing for the better, this goes against the whole point of her eternity, which is avoiding all change, INCLUDING the good changes. 2- Her being so oblivious to everyone being scared of her, which makes absolute no sense considering her previous lore, after all she was an war general for at least 1500 years AND the leader of Inazuma for 500 years, she should absolutely be able to better regonize people's emotions to peform her duties, specially such obvious emotions, heck in the archive, in the section talking about the scene after her first boss fight, it is said she was going to execute the traveler to make an example out of them, this show us that Ei not only understands humam fear but was gonna manipulate people's fears in her favor, which is a lot smarter than what she showed to be in her actual quests and the TCG event.

It makes for an interesting story if she is just a bad archon who is just bad at her job especially since she was not supposed to be an archon in the first place. We can see why she chose to do the things she did even though we personally feel that she was wrong for it.
But as a character in a story I feel like I would've liked her for how she is written if enough of the other characters were written to have negative feelings towards her. It is slightly rage inducing how none of the characters including the npcs have an appropriate reaction when it comes to her or even acknowledge the problems she created and that's probably why the Inazuma writing is so weak compared to other nations.

Actually the npcs suffered so much when their visions were taken away from them only for Itto and Kuki almost feeling nothing from it. Shinobu even gave out her vision to Sara by herself cause she wanted to not cause her friend any trouble. Like… if taking vision away had this much power on the one why it was absolutely no deal for these two?? This is the only actual mistake or intentional decision that makes me question Inazuma’s arc. I love inazuma era yet this one question still pisses me off. In inazuma we were traumatised seeing people going mad without their visions only encounter Itto, Shinobu, Lyney, Lynette, Childe giving out their visions or them being taken away and be very chill with that. Kequin felt very fine trying to destroy her own vision, Xiao didn’t even care of it at all. I’m sorry but whine motivation for that “war” is just nonsense at some point. Kokomi though has enough of a lore shield of being the head of Watatsumi people and that island was always treated independently. But what the others - non sangonomiya people - did have to do in that war is kinda… huh. I mean k remember many of those rules Shogun did and Ei approved managed to get too toxic towards people yet… even Kazuha’s friend has passed away in a fair competition. He tried he failed he retried but after d wording. Sometimes I get it why Yae Miko is so careless about it all yet always being aware of what’s going on - it just was so silly she didn’t bother to try to change things. I get it. Queen. As much as I love Ei for her backstory and design, she screwed up the most out of all the Archons. For all of Ei's ideals of eternity she's simply a horrible ruler who abandoned her people. The common people faced widespread food shortages due to the Sakoku Decree and a literal civil war broke out due to her negligence. A war the Shogun herself easily could have won before it began, but allowed it to go on causing more deaths and devastation. Combine that with Ei ignoring corruption in her own Tri Commissions, Inazuma could've collapsed if the Traveler didn't showed up. Worst of all Ei never faced the consequences of her actions from her own people unlike Furina who was put on trial.
IMO her excellency Sangonomiya Kokomi is a better ruler for Inazuma because she actually cares about the people of Inazuma enough to fight a literal god despite being the head of a different faith. Inazuma storyline could've ended better if Kokomi became Ei's chamberlain like she originally wanted to in her character lore profile.

Here's my argument based on what I think they thought to justify their actions:
Ei: "I don't want any more of my people to suffer. I will close the borders and make sure to eliminate every threat to my Eternity."
Tsaritsa: "I don't want any more of my people to suffer the same way I did. The heavens must fall, and the world must be reestablished. In the name of love, should my name not suffice."
The former just used her Decrees to cope with the losses of other immortal beings that ended up defying Inazuma's safety.
The latter lost her lover against the Heavenly Principles and now seeks to change the world because she somehow has some records of what the world once was prior to the First Who Came.

    Funny thing I've learned:
According to GGZ (still canon lore) The Imaginary Tree, the thing that created the multiverse such as Honkai Impact 3rd and Star Rail, Is the remains/corpse of Zeus.
Zeus In Greek mythology being related to Aether's bloodline ( or you know the primordial god/Phanes bloodline)
Considering that Aether mentioned in his character story/info that Lumine is his "ONLY kins" left , which implies that Phanes and the 4 Shades are all dead
    Kins:
    one's family and relations.
Aether in Greek mythology is the nephew of Phanes. Technically grandson but Phanes and the other 4 Primordial gods refer to each other as siblings (in Genshin case the 4 shades, which also include Aether's mom and dad)
By this logic it means that Zeus in Genshin is a descendant of Aether
    (Because everybody else is dead)
And considering that Aether haven't put his seed in any woman yet (at least none that we know of)
By proxy that means Genshin Impact is the OG universe
Which kinda make sense cuz on the Star Rail official wiki lore page Genshin was not mentioned to be on the Imaginary Tree while Honkai Impact 3rd did
-The Imaginary Tree emerges out of the depths of the Sea of Quanta, which leads to a millennia-long battle between the two entities; the Tree attempts to absorb the Sea, while the Sea attempts to drown the Tree. In consuming the Sea of Quanta, the Imaginary Tree grows an innumerable quantity of branches and leaves, which become universes and civilizations respectively. One of these branches creates the world of Honkai Impact 3rd, while other branches create the numerous worlds in which Honkai: Star Rail takes place.
    Here's the generations
    - The Primordial generation (where Aether and the others are)
    -The Titan generation
-The Olympian generation (where Zeus and the other Olympian gods are)
The moment when you realise Genshin and Mihoyo multiverse is technically just one big family argument/dispute
Basically Genshin is an origin story for the Multiverse and might also be the origin story for the Captain of the Hyperion (the dude we played as in Honkai Impact 3rd)
    TLDR for captain:
According to the lore he have 2 ability
    -time manipulation(slow, reverse, forward,etc)
-and possession (which seems to have 2 ways of working, partial possession and full possession)
Partial possession seems to be him entering someone's mind but not take over completely, he could even help them by showing when the enemy will attack,360 sensory to know where the enemy is and even slow down time for them
( Honkai impact 3rd third person gameplay mechanics)
Now that I mentioned it, this sounds alot like what happened in Kafka's trailer so Elio might be the captain.
Anyways full possession is what I care about, according to the lore the captain full possession affectively kill the person he possess , he will keep all of their memories, body and pretty much replacing that person.
But the more he do this more he'll slowly forget who he actually is, which also lead to another version of him being different from the original like the Ferryman (also him). From what I know he is searching for something in the multiverse, which might be why he is doing full possession across some universes.
(basically Dottore with possession but on steroid, a multiverse scale)
So technically the captain doesn't exist in the multiverse, by that I mean not having an alternate version of himself like everyone else, every other version we meet is still him but in someone else's body .
But at the same time he still exist, which basically make him an outlier in the multiverse.

      1) "I don't believe she's evil" this depends on what each person perceive as evil, because depending on an people's moral set, she can be classified as evil during the archon quest.
      2) "but that's not really her fault since Ei was not a leader but a weapon to defend her sister Makoto" Which would be an good excuse... where it not for the fact that just because she received the title of archon does not mean SHE has to rule, after all she knew Venti and Morax, so she would know that Celestia is perfectly ok with the Archon not actually ruling the land, so she did not receive any forced obligation, so she could still be just an warrior working under someone Who knows how to rule well, her being the leader was her choice and not something forced into her.

Ei is a good person and cares for her people, but she's a warrior at heart, not an excellent archon (ruler).
Ei, after witnessing death of her sister, deaths of her friends, Inazuma filled with beasts that ravaged the land and the cost of "unauthorized" progress created a cold, emotionless puppet, delegated all her duties to her, while, filled with grief, isolated herself from the world. Puppet had a sole goal to keep Inazuma eternal, in form of stasis, by all means.
That's Ei's biggest mistake she did, which led to multiple issues through the land. Too much faith in puppet, too much informational vacuum. She didn't even knew the state of Inazuma, how much it changed. She only knew that Inazuma still stands.
At the end of day Ei learned, willing to do and be better. How will it go? We will, hopefully, see.

In my opinion, the biggest inconsistency in the story is the indifference the archons show towards the visions. The power that distributed visions to reward people's ambitions also destroyed a country and committed genocide against its people for the same reason. Why would Celestia reward people's ambition? The mood of the inazuma people who lost the visions makes the visions seem like a tool to exploit people's ambitions rather than a reward. In my opinion, after their role in the destruction of Khaenri'ah, the archons should have been more skeptical of visions. Raiden Shogun is the archon who acts most logically in this regard.

  • @radiantbunny
    @radiantbunny Před 6 měsíci

Honestly, the Tsaritsa takes the cake of 'worst Archon' for now- For all her faults, at least Raiden Ei didn't fund labs that conduct horrific experiments on children and force them to fight to the death or started an organization that pretty much wound up being an international terrorist group.
But on the topic of Raiden Ei, a lot of the problems people have with her stem from the poor writing of Inazuma. Ei herself is pretty well-written, but the pacing and writing of the Inazuma Archon quests didn't exactly do her any favors. When I hear people discuss it in retrospect, I can't help but feel bitter about how much better Inazuma would've been had they not rushed everything. Ei did make an interesting point, even though she was very much wrong. It's an often overlooked theme due to the poor pacing of the quest, but Inazuma does end up tackling the question of: "Is it better to live following the Heavenly Principles, regardless of suffering because the alternative is much worse? Or should you break free from their shackles and progress onwards despite the risk?"
A lot of the reason Ei's character gets so many detractors is that her motivations aren't covered in enough detail, and seem kinda stupid at first. While Ei wasn't the best ruler, that's because of a deliberate decision on her part (not saying it was justified, but she does actually know how to manage & rule as Post-Archon Quest Inazuma shows). Understanding the decision is crucial to understanding Ei herself- her decision to walk the path of eternity wasn't just trauma but also a self-imposed duty to ensure her nation would live to see another day. It was a horribly misguided effort born from grief, but in Ei's eyes, it was the better alternative to letting the nation get nuked by Celestia- and I really wish we could've actually changed her stance on the argument instead of just duking it out. Her 2nd Story Quest does tackle her philosophies, but I don't think it was enough really. The Archon Quest should've ended with us getting Ei to see that living without dreams and ambitions is no way to live, even if that's what Heaven wants. (And if that is what happened, because my memory isn't clear, it wasn't exactly communicated in the best manner-).
Also consequences. Granted it's hard to hold a god accountable, but I feel like Ei should've at least spoken to someone who resented her as a result of her actions.

There are exceptions like Orobashi yet there is thunderbird who just liked one human and very rightfully was dangerous to every other human in teyvat, let’s be real here. The fact people close their eyes on her biography says a lot about how people still shame depressed people for being unable to not be destructive. I can’t believe I have to say it in 2023 but please open schools and teach them kids about basic mechanics of depression, I swear those kids need it to understand how people function in such states. People of inazuma don’t just blindly praise Raiden they know she did to them well, the only thing she messed up was that meditation period yet people of Inazuma doubted her DECISION but not her being worthy of still worshipping

i think ei being a combo, of the first morally questionable playable character we had in the game, plus bad writing, plus killing signora, made alot of people feel a certain type of way about her.

For me I pity Ei than Focalors and Furina, Ei lore is sad AF all her friends and her sister died, eventually her own physical body is gone also, she built her puppet for the purpose of having leader figure for inazuma for eternity, People saying Ei is just hiding doing Yoga, bruh learn to read and understand the lore behind. Ei consciousness live in plane of euthymia and shogun operates puppet from outside world. The sword of her sister Makoto holds immense power that Ei houses in her puppet, Imagine like if the puppet goes berserk like Scara that starts destroying inazuma and other nation. Ei did have a fight for the shogun puppet for trying to change her ways and views to inazuma. I dont want to favor Ei yeah she is my favorite archon that's why i have to analyze and get into deeper lore. Ei does her job well for the last 500 years and kept her presence alone on her promise for eternal ruling for inazuma she protects it from outside enemies from abyss, Ei deserve the credit all of her effort she even bother to build her own robo puppets and born scara prototype for the sake of being the eternal guardian of inazuma. We know the haters of Ei is Signora simps and wanters

@@DawitsLookingforEmilia But Ei is far from the first morally questionable playable character?? What about Childe and Zhongli? And yes, I count Zhongli in this because his grand plan in Liyue AQ isn't exactly all that moral either. At that point just let playable characters be how they are without the sob story bs. Fandom's general reception of Zhongli kinda proves that questionable morality and actions are less of a deciding factor than the level of attention those things are given by the story.
Personally speaking, the further the story goes, the more it becomes obvious how little consequence Ei's actions had for her compared to someone like Furina, who is literally just a human. Inazuma (so far) is the most deadly of the 7 nations for a regular person to live in, 4 out of 6 islands are practically uninhabitable and Watatsumi and Narukami are both not looking too hot either. Until some of that is alleviated by none other than the Traveler, not Ei. For me the question was never about her reasons, because no reason undoes the harm. That is the most civil way I can put it. Can't wait for Hoyo to make Tsaritsa "marketable".

People hate her because depression doesn't give anyone the right to let people die. My nation's leader is depressed? Guess I'll die then :D
Also your assumption about the whole fandom loving Scara is literally not true, he has plenty of haters just like Ei has plenty of fans as well, stop generalising.

And you need to understand that bringing a character fandom into it does not make sense and even if she "tried" helping Inazuma, then she failed at it and didn't even faced her consequences. I understand that loosing a family member is hard but this still doesn't mean she should just pass her role on a puppet that also caused chaos while she was aware of what was happening in Inazuma yet shrugged it off as if it wasn't important which why I do not like her

Raiden by far is the top 2 character design and back story. Even if they fucked up the archon quest nobody gives a shit. This character is too cool and hot to be hated. If ur hating u probably think tighnari is a decent character
