- Ever wonder what's really going on inside the pro peloton during a grueling Grand Tour race? Well, a new study gives us an inside look at the gut health of 16 professional cyclists during the 2019 Vuelta a España. The study uncovers some fascinating insights that can help all of us cyclists perform better on the bike.
I go over how gut bacteria like Bifidobacteriaceae and Coriobacteriaceae were strongly linked to predicting cycling performance and race results. Why the composition of our diets, especially carbs, is so crucial for supporting our gut health!
Whether you're training for your first century ride, chasing Strava KOMs, crit racing, road racing or just want to better understand the gut-performance connection, then this video is for you.
Want to see how a pro cyclist eats during a normal day? Check out professional cyclist's Harry Sweeny's video. He wasn't in this study, but it's a good watch nonetheless!

A little about myself:
New to my channel? Well, I'm an average recreational cyclist that recently moved from America to Girona, Catalunya, Spain. The Vuelta España and The Tour of Catalunya will all be held here in Spain!
Sometimes I race and when I do, I share my training with you along the way. So far, I've done crit racing, road racing and gravel racing. I haven't done a duathlon or a triathlon yet, but it is something I am thinking about!
So far in Spain, I’ve seen DSM cycling, SD Worx, Team Jayco Alula, Rally / Human Powered Health cycling, Ineos, Arkea cycling, UAE team emirates and more all training here. Did you know there’s also a GCN studio here?

🙏🏾 That was a lot to type!! If you've read this far, thank you for taking the time to watch! - Sport
Are you gut-doping?🤔
This was good stuff. I appreciate the effort you put into this👍🏾
Thanks! I appreciate that a lot. Thanks for taking time out of your day to watch 🙏🏾
As I am rebuilding my gut health. With guidance from a doctor and i ride. This is cool to see. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
good watch
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for taking time out of your day to check it out.
Seems to be a popular topic at the moment. Tim Spector’s ‘Food for Life’ book talks about keeping food natural and diverse e.g 30 different veggies a week. Reading the ingredients can be quite scary. Seems a complete contrast to the cycle/fitness industry where we consume gels and powders, all ultra processed foods.
For sure! re: super processed foods. I’m going to look into that book. Thanks for the recommendation!
Also informative is the twins study doco on Netflix- you are what you eat. Tim Spector is also in that
And I’m literally eating a glazed donut with my coffee as I read this 😭 I’ll throw some veggies in later today to make up for it lol
good information...luckily its foods I have always used in my diet, but I'm glad they did the study to confirm
I need to be better. Too much potato chips, cookies and croissants post ride 🥲
That was interesting… nutrition has to be the most complex part of this sport… what to eat vs what not to eat… now I gotta throw away all my gels… 😂😂🙌🏽
Haha…it gets so complex man. I’d keep the time frame in mind though. You and I aren’t doing three week events, and we won’t be constantly slamming multiple gels down for 5-6 hours a day. Personally for me I feel like I need to be better at getting those complex carbs in regularly. The riders that did that and came into sample point A with the bacteria associated with those carbs did best. But it’s hard for me to let go of my potato chip addiction 😅
@@SeeSmithTV 😂😂😂😂😂😂 addiction is mofo… I haven’t met a cookie yet I didn’t like… 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
