In this video I review and compare the 2023 ID.4 Pro and Pro S AWD trims! Did we make a mistake? Watch to find out!
*Update* I misspoke about the fog lights! There are no fog lights, but an adaptive front lighting system that will adjust brightness for different weather conditions**
*I apologize for the wind noise in some of the video. This is the last video without a microphone! We were able to purchase them thanks to viewers like you! Unfortunately they haven't arrived yet and it was windier than I thought!*

I have the same one, same color and has the Homelink mirror that is usually just in the Pro S Plus. However less than a fan of the Pirelli Scorpions in slushy snow. Debating getting a square set up for winters. Love the car.
BTW did you ever read the warning label on the drivers window? lol
Nice I do like the color. We got the 2022 Pro S RWD, mainly due to the fact that we don't have any need for AWD in Florida, but my wife wanted the leather seats and the cup holder thing in the back seat. All the rest are nice but really could live without. Especially the sunroof. We mostly keep it closed.
I love the color and the extra features! Moon roof is a hell yeah for me ! 😍
Owning a pro s RWD 2023 82kwh battery and loving it.
I do not miss not having AWD. We also have a 350z convertible and the id4 gets people sick easier with that electric vehicle roller coaster feel hahahah
I went with AWD on my ID4 PRO due to the extra acceleration and I do drive in winter conditions at times. if I could get the light up badges, and the rear seat cupholders I would. Really the only bummers for me. My wife would like the power liftgate due to her height.
Wife and I were talking about differences between the Pro and S. When we got to light up badges she said "So...pay extra to advertise for them?" In the end she told I did a good job selling her on the cheaper model...for me 😆
You can close the rear hatch if you pull on the button the whole time as the door closes.
You can close the trunk from inside by pulling the button for a longer time
We were looking at the Pro S, and ended up with the Pro for two reasons. 1. The moon roof lets in a lot of heat, and since we're in Houston that's a big consideration. We were also looking at the Tesla Model Y which has a similar moon roof configuration, but whatever they're using in the glass at Tesla is reflecting much more heat than the ID.4. Additionally, the moonroof "curtain" on the ID.4 Pro S is flimsy and (in my opinion) prone to damage and snags over time if accidently hit while trying to get something in/out the back seats - and honestly it doesn't help with the heat issue. 2. We we're quoted higher insurance rates on the AWD, versus the rear-wheel drive. Other than that, I would much rather have all the other features of the Pro S. That said, we're very happy with the Pro. As a final comment, I've seen the new ID.Buzz with it's electronically controlled opaque moonroof (goes from clear to white) - and that would be super nice on the Pro S instead of the "curtain" thing. BTW, we're looking pretty close at the Buzz for our next vehicle...
Thanks for sharing! Great stuff!!!
ID Buzz is hard to beat. But if i have more money i would go for a Rivian.
I'm in southern CA and feel like the sun/moon roof cover blocks a lot of the heat. I pretty much have kept it closed since my purchase a couple of months ago. I think I'll open it more in the winter, or if out in the evenings.
I came to see what kind of car you drive.
I drove the ID4 when it first launched. I really liked it. There were just a few things I had issue with:
#1 I wasn't a fan of the door controls for the rear windows. Why not use regular VW door controls instead?
#2 I would have liked heated/ventilated seats even if they were sourced from another VW car.
I'll keep an eye out for you on the road!
People bring up the window buttons a lot, but honestly we almost never open the windows.
Heated steering wheel alone, makes this worth the upgrade!!
i was lucky to get the heated wheel on my 2022 Pro AWD
I have a AWD Pros S. The headlights are different between the two models. While there are no fog lights, as you stated, the front lights can be lowered for inclement weather.
Thanks! I did have a bit about the headlights but cut it due to audio quality. I should have just recorded a voice over. I didn’t think they had fog lights since the front is exactly the same. The button confused me since it looked like fog lights. Thanks for clarifying! I’m assuming that is the adaptive front lighting system. I appreciated you chiming in!
I added an update with that info in the description! Thanks!
@@theaverageev Yes, but VW calls them projection lights. What is nice is that as you turn the steering wheel to go around a curve, the move in the direction that you are turning. As to the switches, both of defog. One is for the blower and the other for the heated windshield. There is also a button for the rear defroster. I've found the owners manual to be not very clearly written and I have to figure things out for myself. By the way, I also live in MD and not too far from you. I chose the AWD because I plan on keeping the car a long time, for the little extra money, the additional traction if we ever have snow and heated windshield are nice to have. Also, I do like the extra acceleration.
Got my 23 European Pro 4MOTION (AWD) a couple of weeks ago, equipment wise it seems somewhat like your Pro and it has the traction of the Pro S. Madly fast for a family hauler but long winters makes it worthwhile. By the way mine had software 3.5, hopefully more ID owners will receive the same.
Stop it! We just want 3.2 here in US. Is plug and charge too much to ask for?
But seriously thanks for sharing!
@@theaverageev to be fair existing owners here are upgraded to 3.2 at best, so VW in Europe also have challenges getting 3.n software rolled out in a timely manner. But I will shut my mouth about this now. Thanks for making interesting content. :)
Pro tip: To close the power lift gate with the switch in the door, you have to *hold* the switch the whole time (for safety). I believe it's the same for the button on the key fob.
Thanks for the info! I couldn't figure it out! I figured it had to be possible!
Second pro tip, if you hold the unlock button on the key fob the windows will roll down, to roll them up, you have to push and hold the lock button/sensor on the door
I'm thinking about getting an ID4 .. what's the big difference between a Pro and and Pro S?
Pro S has: Moonroof, Power massage heated seats with seat memory for driver and passenger, power rear lift gate, leatherette interior, heated front wind shield for the winter, 20” wheels, light line in the front, illuminated front and rear VW logo, heated steering wheel, and a pass through to the back!
With rumors vw is not selling EVs hopefully some good specials are coming soon.
I’ve already seen many dealers selling under MSRP!
Really? I haven't heard that rumor, but if true they won't be able to sell any new cars in southern CA in the near future.
@@kabeeca they have cars for sale they just are not selling. Hoping that makes the prices go down. Been eyeing the id.4, 2024 equinox EV or Volvo ex30
Read it wrong! Thought you meant they were going to discontinue making them! Yes, I think you can get some great deals now. We got 2k below msrp but it's definitely better now. I've seen up to 5k off.
@@sdhute
How would you feel about a used or new Tesla Model 3 or Y? Their prices are crashing.
It is not out of the realm of possibility. As a EV content creator, I feel like I should live with a Tesla for a while so I can give a more balanced perspective. Definitely a Model 3. Not a fan of the way the Y looks.
Annoyingly, VW now only offers the factory-installed tow hitch standard on the AWD model. Desirable if you want a hitch-mounted cargo box because the rear suspension is augmented to carry more weight. Otherwise RWD would be great for most people.
The whole ID serie knows a lot of software problems and are way too expensive! VW ist kaput!
I don’t agree? But you are entitled to your opinion. 2023s are great and we’ve had no issues. Software has had no issues at all. VW just needs to work on updates and listening to their customers. The fact that there still isn’t plug and charge is crazy.
I own the very same AWD ID 4.. Go for the AWD Drove both and MY AWD is definitely more fun to drive ,gives you a kinda Tesla push while the RWD is almost just like a normal car. And you do not loss 20 miles more like 5...
Thanks for sharing! I’m going off the EPA estimate for the range.
