    My family and I summered in Five Islands, Maine when I and my twin sister were very young. The house we stayed at was right near the town where Tibbedeaux's Lobster Pound was located and provided us with plenty of live lobsters, crabs, and Ipswich clams. When I was older, Mom and I went to Five Islands. While there, I cleaned, under running water, 100 long-necked steamer clams. Mom steamed them, put out the bowls of clam broth and melted butter seasoned with lemon juice, and watched while I ate every one. The best meal I ever had. This was a great video, Mike, showing us what Ipswich (a town in Massachusetts) clams look like, how to clean and cook them, and how to eat them. Since moving to Tucson 52 years ago, I have only had these beauties once since they are expensive. Live Maine lobsters are easier to afford and just as delicious.

    I'm from RI, looks great, I'd eat a lot lol. Family split between steamed and fried with bellies, make everyone happy, never even thought use in chowder 🤷, I'll look👊, Usually get a lot free🎃, and cohaugs for stuffies and chowder, cherrystone Or littlenecks for clamcakes.. but first night purge for day and steam, have with melted butter, next day fried clams with bellies 🤤, other clams shuck and freeze unless a weekend, always get more.. I'd hate to pay these days lol.

    We can sometimes get steamers at one farmers market here in the Atlanta area. Haven't had them in years. And we never ate the siphon/neck/yeah it's that part too. You may have just cost me a small fortune for tonight's dinner.

      My goal is to do a vid on whole bellies. However, they are very hard to get down here in Central PA. My favorite Seafood is Fried Whole Belly Clams. It's the very first thing I get when I arrive in New England.

      @@mikethestewburner5505 Thanks for the response ! I hear u, that is the first thing on the menu when I go to NE as well ! I also live in Pennsylvania. I am in NEPA. I know what u mean about finding Steamers in PA. Price Chopper near me, said they can get me them in the shell, like u had them in the video. U have to shuck them, but cheaper than buying the shucked and having them shipped.

    I have never heard of “soft shell clams” before. Is the shell soft like soft shell crabs? Is it the same concept?

    • @mikethestewburner5505
      @mikethestewburner5505  Před 3 lety

      They are not soft shell like soft shell crabs. Basically the shell is thinner than other clams like quahog or cherry stone.
