Bus Hell. Pokhara to Kathmandu.

  • The bus from Pokhara to Kathmandu at the moment is not for the faint hearted with almost the entire two hundred kilometers of road in really bad condition due to disrepair as well as it being under reconstruction. The journey used to take six hours, it now takes closer to twelve.
    Added to the bumpy slow pace there's landslides, traffic jams with many large vehicles on narrow stretches causing congestion and the trip might test your patience. I was pretty glad it was over.
    There were three or four stops along the way with lunch of curry and rice being really good value at one of them. It's all part of the travel experience of course, but some days you'd rather not have to go through Himalayan bus marathons like these.
    Fortunately many of the tourists busses now have very comfortable lounge chairs which makes travel more bearable, but when you're crawling along for almost twelve hours being thrown about with someone on the same bus with stomach problems...

    As a nepali I’m sorry that you had really bad experience with road from Ktm to Pokhara. And I do appreciate your honesty about Nepal and we all Nepalese also feel the same about our nation about issues in education, health and infrastructure throughout the country. Really hoping we one day will have all those issues sorted.
    But if we look at the positive side, our Nepal is unique in that way because it’s not developed as other Asian countries. It’s not becoming westernised too quickly and in some ways at all - and thank goodness. We have our own charm, culture and one of the best hospitality to our tourist. And there are so many tourists keep returning to Nepal because there are no other countries like Nepal.
    Jai Nepal 🇳🇵

      I think your observations are correct. Nepal has a unique quality when it comes to hospitality which few other countries can rival - the Nepalese are incredibly kind, welcoming, and generous.

      Malaii pani, I just couldn’t believe it when I came and I’d never left the UK before.
      Mero Nepali sathi say the same, we all hope Nepal doesn’t loose its own thing and become westernised, Nepal has something the UK has lost I think 😀👍🇳🇵🇬🇧

Some of us like the added enjoyment of filming, editing, being creative (how well some of us do it is debatable) and having a purpose while traveling other than just the going. 😂 it’s a bad ride, comfy bus Kathmandu to Dumre but local bus Dumre to Pokhara and it almost killed me.
    I described it to my Nepali friends as worse than being in the back of an APC. And the last time I was in one was when I was about 16 and it was on a smooth unused runway on an airbase 😂😂🙈
    Gora death ride 😂😂🇳🇵🇬🇧
    When I came back to Kathmandu I relented and got a flight, which was delayed by 4 hours then took longer due to not being able to land because of the weather 😭😭😂👍🇳🇵🇬🇧 Nepal ma matra

      That is disappointing. I hope the next generation is paying attention and willing to force change. Unfortunately it seems there are many countries in the world being held back by corruption.

    It's baffling to me why foreigners would opt for grueling bus rides when they could easily fly for less than $30. Trust me, air travel in Nepal is not only a more comfortable option, but it can also save you around 10 hours of travel time.

    • @user-cc8zb1he5f
      @user-cc8zb1he5f Před 8 měsíci +2

      If you plan to visit Nepal, don't miss out on the opportunity to explore the mountains, go for long hikes, visit national parks, and even consider trekking to Upper Mustang or Everest. There's not much point in just staying in the cities since Nepal doesn't have many cities anyways ,the capital is a fucking mess. The capital can be chaotic, so it's worth venturing out to the rural areas where the real adventure begins.

    • @fiascodagama1
      @fiascodagama1  Před 8 měsíci +3

      I agree flying is a much more comfortable and time saving way to travel (I flew from Kathmandu to Pokhara initially), but I was in no rush and also wanted to see what the trip was like not having taken the bus in almost ten years. Flights at this time from the number of agents and airlines I enquired with are $US100 for foreigners and about $40-50 for locals.

      If you are new to a place and you have a lot of time, take a bus instead of a flight. A bus journey will provide ample opportunities to experience the place.
