Gungrave G.O.R.E - Tips for New Players and Common Mistakes

  • I decided to make this video because I have often seen people on Twitch and CZcams play this game and encounter a lot of self-inflicted problems with it.
    While sometimes it can be the games fault for not having enough tutorials on these tools, I decided to take it upon myself to try and explain some of the more underused tools better for new players.
    Please watch if you're interested in the game or if you may have stopped playing because of the difficulty spike.
    I really enjoyed this game and I want other people to enjoy it too and support Studio Iggymob. They really outdid themselves for their first major game in the franchise and this is probably the best gameplay Gungrave has had.

    If youre new, i would suggest dumping points into demolition for like the first 4 levels. It doesnt go up in cost until you have 5 points, its damage, survivability, i frames....demo gauge does a lot. Once you get enough points, THEN you respec into shield recovery to get the dash storm barrage. But if you rush down shield recovery you dont really feel any tangible power difference in the early game. Also, bear in mind that the initial demolition shot that you start the game with is invaluable and stays good for the entire game. It knocks down anything thats not a boss, including orgmen, giving you time to spray with burst mode or dive in for free and storm shot while they get up.

      Yeah, I should really update this video somewhere down the line with more advice and some new information
      With the updates that have come since and the new version of the game on Switch, there's a lot of stuff I can cover

    nice vid! haha im embarrassed to admit, but im one of those that didnt fully utilize the barrage shot and focuses more on stats upgrade (namely shot dmg and shot distance) 😅
    btw i had just cleared the game on stream yesterday. that was my first playthrough and i played directly on hard. haha imagine the curses i threw at those areas with hordes of orgmens lol.
    but among all the bosses, i had a hate and love feeling towards turonty XD

      @Jobocite  Před rokem +2

      Don't worry about it, its very easy to fall into the trap of just levelling stats haha.
      I'm glad you managed to make it through. Turonty is honestly a boss I think everyone struggles with. His first phase is painful! Haha
      If you plan to do the game on G.O.R.E difficulty I did put out a video for advice on that if you ever come back to it!

      @@Jobocite my playstyle usually goes for DPS by default 😅 but yeah now that i learned about the proper use of barrage shot, that would help me in GORE difficulty. but for now, i'm clearing easy and normal first. i didnt even know about those easy and normal clear bonuses lol

    The holidays finally gave me enough time for Gungrave and this video was extremely helpful in establishing good habits and maintaining high ranks during the early stages to make the skill grind less tedious. Even with a limited toolset at the beginning, it's easy to appreciate how thoughtful the gameplay is when you get comfortable juggling between when to move, use your Demo shots, build shots/beat with Storm Barrage, and commit to DPS with Burst Mode.
    I'm constantly struggling with getting enough Art for A/S ranks, though. Because GORE is niche and largely written off, discussion and discovery of new tech is nonexistent. I'm trying to incorporate more of the techs you can use from grabs alongside Demo shots, but that barely gets me above a B most of the time. Have you been able to figure out any tricks?

    • @Jobocite
      @Jobocite  Před rokem +2

      So for Arts theres a few things you can try
      -Any kills with Demolition Shots will get you Arts
      -Any kills during Fury Mode will get you Arts
      -Any executions will get you Arts
      -The special grab execution skills (where you grab an enemy and do one of the special kills will generate arts
      Generally speaking if I really want to build up arts I will use Fury mode or go for Demolition shots as I feel relying on grabs too much slows down my speed. In the final levels of the game getting lots of Art is fairly easy if you invest in the Demolition Shot "Seed Fall"
      I hope this advice comes in handy, once I get enough practice in I'll see if I can put up a video on the topic of arts and rank as I still wouldn't say I'm the most skilled at Gungrave yet.

      @hobbyisthermit2275 Před rokem +1

      @@Jobocite I've tried experimenting with Fury mode to incorporate it into my playstyle, but I didn't notice it gave Art. I'll pump the Fury time bonus and give that a shot! I agree the grabs are very slow, but the coffin shot gives 100 Art and the slam gives 50 per enemy caught in the splash - I find them most useful in the lower difficulties where getting the enemies to live long enough for score is a challenge and incoming damage isn't an issue. I have a similar problem with executions being slow and the Arts they give too low to be worthwhile, but at least they generate a small amount of shield to justify it as a resource generator.
      You've made some good points! I'll play around using your advice and see what I can learn. Thanks!

      Well said, it's so nice to hear someone speaking positively about the game and who is able to appreciate the solid and engaging mechanics that lie underneath the game's jankiness. The game has recieved such overwhelming negativity from the internet which is a shame because there is an awesome, unabashedly "gamey" game waiting for those willing to put a little work in discovering it. I also struggle with getting anything above B lol, the game's ranking feels quite unforgiving on my initial hard playthrough.

    • @Jobocite
      @Jobocite  Před rokem +3

      @@alirana174 agreed, its why I want to spend time putting out videos on what is good about the game.
      To just put it in peoples heads to give it another try and experiment more as Gungrave GORE is probably my favorite and most played release from this year so far
      I will still address the negative stuff it has but it will only be in a context to show what can be improved upon in future updates or a sequel if they choose to make one.
      As a fan of the older Gungrave games, you can definitely tell they played the first two games and almost perfectly combined elements from both of them while also adding nice touches such as the executions, grabs and storm barrage abilities

      @@hobbyisthermit2275 This may be subject to change with January Patch coming close, but here's all the things that you can do to get Arts:
      - Fury Mode kill = 40 (includes Storm Barrage kills)
      - Death Hook Chase kill = 15
      - RIP kill = 50 (15 for Death Hook pull, 30 for Death Hook chase)
      - Death Hauler combo ender kill = 60 (chainsaw kill is 30)
      - Grab kill = 100 (0 for throw)
      - Demolition Shot kill = 50 per point used (75 for each Horror's Quake + Executioner's Blood + Hellhound kill, 50 for each Graveyard kill)
      As of now, I would recommend combining Storm Barrage and Fury Mode (or Graveyard) since the Fury Mode damage increase only applies to normal bullet attacks and Burst Mode. Thus, you can generate high Beats and Arts at the same time.

    Great job on the video and thanks! Just curious, can you parry any of the attacks of the second boss or do you just have to dodge all his stuff?

    • @Jobocite
      @Jobocite  Před rokem

      Are you talking about Boostmaster? You can parry his swords and for the second phase you can parry his wave attacks.
      Hes a very difficult boss on the first few tries but once you get his timing down you'll destroy him in no time.
      Also in his second phase when he clones himself, you're better running left or right than dodging for his rush attacks
      Maintaining distance and having room to move makes the major bossfights a lot easier

      @@alirana174 Ohhh, the one in the sewers.
      The best way to deal with him is to stick and move. Dodge back away from him when he starts to come close and try to remain on the other side of the room to him when you shoot
      Never forget also that you can shoot while dodging and never forget your mobility.
      If you find yourself against a wall, immediately try to move sideways as there are several bosses like that one and the key is to keep moving as far away from them as you can get while firing
      I'll likely do a video on the stage mini-bosses like that one soon

      Though the shield recharge is nice, I recommend practicing the Storm Barrage skills I practice in the video though as your Demolition shots give HP recovery
      My most recommended demolition to go for is Seed Fall as it can clear entire waves of enemies in front of you while also restoring 3 chunks of health
