- Hey guys, so first video of 2021! Yet another Last of Us Part II video! Sorry, it’s been so long, we went through quite a rough patch in our personal lives and just had to take a break. Seems to be a pattern for December/January lately...
So an Abby edit FINALLY we’ve had a handful of people ask us about it and we finally got around to doing one. Making it has kind of made us appreciate Abby as a character more. She’s not so bad really. The more we edited the more we saw parallels between Abby and Ellie throughout. So we were thinking about doing a video on that too in the hopefully near future!

The part that brought tears to my eyes was when Yara told her "You're a good person", Abby stumbled, nobody had told her that before n reaaaaally meant it.
“You don’t know me.”
“I know enough.”
It always makes me cry, too. All yara knows is she’s some woman who saved her and her brother, and that’s all she needs to know. Abby’s character development is so great.
There is no wrong one, there is no right one, there are just broken people living in a broken world, where right and wrong no longer exist, love no longer exist easily, and than when you find it in someone else you do everything to keep it. Just as Ellie did... just as Abby did. You can't easily judge people in a world like this.
So please let's end all this anger about Abby

Honestly when I played the game I didn't think much of Abby at first. I went into the game knowing she was the trending topic of abuse and everyone laughed at her for being buff. But by the end of the game she was my favourite character. Even like 6 months after finishing the game I still can't always admit to people that I love her character, because a lot of the time it's like asking for a punch to the jaw. So many people are toxic about her and I'm still convinced it's because they refuse to see the bigger picture and only care about Ellie. Little do they know, if they opened up their heart they'd understand that Abby makes Ellie a far more deeper character.
It's like you said, she has SO MANY parallels with Ellie. It's insane. But a lot of people refuse to try and understand her and it's frustrating.
So thank you for giving her the attention she needs. 💙

Honestly, I feel like Abby has more parallels with Joel, especially with her newfound relationship with Lev (just like Joel's relationship with Ellie in the first game).
And I actually liked Abby a lot. I thought she was a complex character very well done and her development from losing almost all of her humanity to no longer following the cycle of vengeance and hate was amazing.

Seeing Jerry in the flashback as a spirit alive and smiling at Abby means he in peace finally because Abby is no longer in vengeance mode really made me cry. Seeing Joel spirit and playing his guitar and looking as us, is like Joel telling Ellie, “enough is enough, Ellie. This will not bring me or you in peace. I don’t want you becoming like me anymore. I always love you and I always know you forgived me. It time to move on Ellie”. Really made me cry as well. Seeing the dead bodies of Mel, Owen, Alice, and Jesse tore me up. Vengeance ain’t pretty because it makes you into a monster and there will consequences of your actions. Part 2 is one of my most favorite games of the last of us series because how emotional the game really is especially the ending really hurts me big time. I never experience a game that ruins your emotions once you got done with the game. It makes you like a zombie because so many emotions in your head spinning.
I honestly thought it was a beautiful moment when Abby says that line in the forest. She’s beginning to realign with the Firefly ideology, she’s reconnecting with her self and once again becoming the person her father raised. I honestly thought her ‘redemption’ arc was done better than Joel’s in the first game.
Hearing Ellie scream after Abby kills Joel will forever hurt me 😞

One of the reasons tlou is a masterpiece is its unrelenting yet poetic depiction of the world; black holes of pain and hurt humans have caused to each other and experinced; Me and you included.
The dialog, shots and music, everything about this is great. You showed a perspective of a character that many didn’t seem to understand, wonderful !

Honestly this game DID deserve those damn awards. It's masterful storytelling,the perfomances,the graphics and everything else was done so great, and the messages it passes are do deep and realistic that made me realise more about our world. It's a shame that some people cannot see the magic of this game, but I'm really happy I did and thanks to NG we get a gem in these hard times and generally in gaming insustry. I loved most of the characters and Abby,mannn she is so Ellie and Joel at the same time,the paralles between them are so similar and I hope ND will give us a 3rd game in the future. I loved ur video,and it's so well done for an underrated character♥

I actually like Abby. She's such a well written character!.. She has her own reason and did what she thought was right! So did Ellie.. She and her Actress shouldn't recieve death threats.. And the game was actually very good in my opinion.. It was an emotional and realistic game..! :)
I personally agree with you. The game is about perspectives and internal bias. A lot of people can't past the anger about what happened to Joel to appreciate what the game is trying to show you. I think it's still misunderstood by a lot of people.

Abby is so severely misunderstood by a fan base that is blinded by their love for Joel. I will forever be a defender for Abby. Imagine being a teenager and having your biological father and your community killed, left alone with your friends to survive. People like to bring up how Abby tortured Joel, forgetting that Joel and Tommy both tortured plenty of people before. At least Abby was hesitant before that final blow. And doing so didn’t make her feel better - you can see it after she finally kills him how she just stands there staring down at him. Not only that but she was screwed over by her best friend (Mel) and ex boyfriend (Owen). No one talks about that. Who dates your best friend’s ex? And what ex boyfriend goes after one of your best friends? And then Owen continues to simp after her while treating Mel like trash. And then all of her friends are killed and another community she identifies with is slaughtered. Once again left alone, this time with Lev. Only to be captured and tortured for months, while also having her head shaved and her muscles wasted away, two iconic symbols of her identity. She is literally beaten down to nothing, but still puts Lev before herself and carries him to the boat, and only accepts to fight Ellie when she threatens him. She goes through all that and people still say she is evil and hate on her, just because she sought to avenge her father’s death.
If you frame the game from the perspective of Abby and her father. Jerry Anderson travels across the country with his daughter to get to the Hospital where the immune girl is supposed to arrive so he can be the one to make a cure for humanity. After months of travel and waiting the immune girl, some fireflies were starting to lose hope. Finally the immune arrived and you make the very tough decision to make the cure for man kind. Because no one else can and there won't be another shot at this. You set aside your emotions and get the immune girl on the operating table. Your ready to break history and try to save the world. Bam! The smuggler busts in and stares you down cold. You grab your scalpel to try and defend yourself and the immune girl who's the cure. "I won't let you take her...Think of the lives at stake" You beg with shaky hands. The smuggler disarms you and stabs you in the throat and kills you dooming humanity to permanently suffer a world with no cure. Your daughter Abby finds your dead body and the fireflies disband. In the pursuit of Revenge your daughter joins a group of liberators who weaponized her grief to combat the enemy forces. After years of Her killing scars for them. She finally tracks The Smuggler down and tortures him, then kills him. She leaves the girl and the smuggler's brother alive and return home. Over the next three days, Abby loses every friend she had, her community, she finds two new companions then loses one of them, is strung up for death by the scars. She lost everything and finds the smugglers brother and girl who was responsible for all this carnage and she fights them but in the end chooses to break the cycle of violence letting Ellie and Dina survive and Tommy too even if she didn't intend too. I love Ellie and Joel they are my favorite video game characters but hearing the slander abby's character must endure is insane. Reducing her to a plot device or hating her character without taking any context or without being able to see her character development. Abby is also an amazing character! such a beautiful nightmare of a game!

I actually still hated Abby after my first playthrough but honestly the more I replayed and the more I edited my attitude changed towards her because I was forcing myself to look from Abby's perspective. Especially when editing this video.

Saving Ellie cost the cure.
The cure would've cost Ellie's life.
Abby's obsession with going after Joel costs her relationship with Owen.
Owen choosing not to kill Ellie and Tommy ends up costing the lives of Nora, Manny, Mel, Whitney, Jordan, Leah, and himself.
Abby siding with Lev and Yara makes her an enemy of the WLF and the Scars.
Protecting Abby and Lev and giving them a chance to escape costs Yara her life.
Choosing to hunt down and kill Abby costs Ellie her relationships with Tommy and Dina, and gets Jesse killed.
All actions have consequences, and all actions have a cost. There is no such thing as revenge without cost.

Honestly, I love this game. To everyone who says that the theme is "Revenge is bad", they are wrong. It is a game ab forgiving, forgiving what Joel did for Ellie. I didn't like too much of Abby at first, but honestly she is a good character.
I don’t understand why people are so mad at abby for doing what she had to do Joel wasn’t a good person either he killed people to survive I love how this story doesn’t have a hero or villain just survives.

Glad you liked it, I did a search for Abby videos before I made it and surprised that there weren't very many so thought I'd take it upon myself to make one and I think making it helped me understand and empathise with Abby more. Not that I ever hated her but I felt slightly more indifferent towards her at the time but now I think she was a great character and I hope to see more of her!

A small detail when Jesse says to Ellie you come from the east. When giving directions to find Joel and Tommy It actually is a reference bcoz Ellie is the light. Her name meaning is light. And the fireflies says that whenever lost in the darkness look for the light. It means Ellie is the light and the cure. In this whole game Ellie is the light. She is the immune girl she is the cure. So when Jesse was giving directions and he told Ellie to go to east direction it is like the sun rises in the east and she is that light Unfortunately it was over there😢 Even in HBO series when Joel, Ellie Tess were eating Ellie was highlighted under the sunlight and many times in the game and series she has been referred to the light.

I didn't show Abby as a 'good person', I edited her journey as a character mostly from her perspective.
A lot of people just focus on their anger and hatred towards her for killing Joel and don't actually realise that what Ellie is doing is just as bad. I didn't paint the characters in a certain way that's just how it is in the game. ☺️

My honest opinion… I enjoyed the game VERY much, I was in hatred of Abby just as naughty dog wanted me to be, and then I fell in love with Abbs. I just understood the cycle of revenge, but I REALLY feel like this game could’ve been part 3. Why? Well, the liking of Abby led me to want to know more about her, so I wish instead (keep in mind I would still expect/have Joel die from Abby) they would show the journey of Abby traveling across 3-4 states on her way to Joel. I mean damn, Joel and Ellie went from Boston to Texas! This would have established a better understanding for who Abby is for those ignorant people who can’t understand her with what little info is given. Once she reaches Joel obviously she kills him, that would’ve been the end of part 2. Part 2 would have also been showing Ellie and Joel timeline of 5 freaking years that it decided to skip, to see their relationship. Instead… they killed Joel WAY too soon, and then let both Abby and Ellie live, but killed off an OG Jesse. Just my opinion folks, not a cry baby of them killing Joel, I loved the guy be I’d kill my fathers killer too. I just wish they killed him after letting people get attached to Joel and Ellie so it would hit deeper.
