Scott im gonna give you a definitive answer... a)yes its too expensive b) Ur looking at the wrong competition Ur looking at theme parks what bpbpbrpblss,(Blackpool pleasure beach pleasure beach resort pleasure beach Lancashire south shore to give it its full name this week), it's a seaside amusement park. So rather than look at thorpe or Alton look at fantasy island look at adventure island look at bottons, great Yarmouth... then youll see its far too expensive

This is exactly right and it’s part of the big problem Blackpool pleasure beach finds itself in. Blackpool pleasure beach is not Alton Towers there is absolutely no comparison. Alton Towers is a magical place, a stately home with wonderful gardens and an incredible theme park. I don’t want to say anything offensive or insulting about Blackpool.

I don’t think I agree.. growing up in the North West, the debate wouldn’t ever be should we go to BPB or GYPB, it would be Pleasure beach or Alton Towers so I think Scotts comparison is accurate to how most normal people in the north west would make decisions. This is why I think he is extra correct about gate pricing. I know generally, especially with the cozzie liv, that most people will look outside in the summer on a nice day, try and think of something to do, come to the decision of pleasure beach over alton as theres more to do in Blackpool, then immediately think, f@ck that, Not a chance am I paying 50 quid a person for 30-100 year old rides 🫠

I compeltely agree that BPB is an Amusement Park, and the park needs to open itself up to on the gate visitors again. Simply put, it needs to bracket the online pricing cheaper but when booked further in advance, whilst bringing the on the gate pricing down as well as having non-rider options and half day tickets with longer hours in the summer months.
Online: £35.00 Adult / £25.00 Child when booked 7+ days in advance
    Gate Price: £40.00 Adult / £30.00 Child
Half Day Tickets (Flat Price Online and On The Gate - late entry say 4-5 hours during extended opening hours in summer only so 3pm-8pm or 2pm-6pm for example) £20.00 Adult / £15 Child
    Non-Rider Tickets: £5.00
Half day tickets with a flat price enable people to visit multiple attractions in Blackpool, whilst topping up the park during the later hours whilst giving pre-booked guests and on the gate full price guests access to rides earlier in the day.
Most people attend blackpool in families, often seeing multi-generational families along the front. If that is then 2 parents, 2 children and 2 grandparents, then with the non-rider tickets you might get a mum and grandparents in for £15 and dad and kids able to ride for £50 for half a day after they've been on the front, been up the tower and had ice cream etc.

I think it goes back to what you were saying in regards to how people visit the park compared to others. More people tend to make a conscious commitment to visit Merlin parks like Towers, Thorpe and Chessington, whereas for Pleasure Beach (apart from locals who are passholders) many outside visitors would visit Pleasure Beach more impulsively. I think that's the main point in favour of adding non-rider passes and modeling their pricing structure around that, but that's a whole nother can of worms I'm not opening here.
Another thing is that with Merlin parks, I'd wager a decent chunk of their profit margin comes from in-park sales like Fastpasses, merch, food, etc., which sell well because of their already high attendance, which in turn lets them get away with having better deals and selling for lower admission costs, which keeps attendance high and the cycle continues. Whereas for a park like Pleasure Beach, they don't have high enough attendance to allow for those extras to reach the same margins, so they have to depend on admission sales for the bulk of their income, which is what's forcing them to be as high as they are.
I think high prices for the Pleasure Beach would be more justifed if they included some perks like free virtual queue, or other extras that would make the customer experience better, but I don't know how feasible that would be.

Compared to what you can get at other parks, it does feel a bit expensive.
Enso in particular could use some restructuring, as it's almost always empty when we go, £15 per head is just too much for a lot of people, especially families or groups. They should offer combo packages such as 2 rides for £20 to try fill seats and they'd make more money overall.

    • @yourexperienceguide

    • @CoasterBaras
      @CoasterBaras Před měsícem

      @@yourexperienceguide Fair point.
BPB does have a range, although I imagine it's more of a personal preference to what a customer prefers at the parks attraction wise.
They have the amazing Valhalla, Ice Blast (although at the moment?), Icon, The Big One, Streak, Revolution and the more historical coasters, so I think any of our biases towards what we prefer would change our value outlook but naturally it's purely subjective 😅
It's a tough one, they need the funding if they're going to build modern rides as some reach their end of life, to draw a new audience.
We still love BPB though, and we always support them by buying merch and as many rides of Enso as we can so they can continue development of the park 😃

The online deals for BPB are great however the gate price is extortionate! Many people who go to Blackpool for the day live within an hours drive of the town. If its a sunny warm day, most people will think, "right? Let's go to Blackpool". When they find that it's £50+ to get into the pleasure beach on the gate, most people, if not all, will go across the road to the piers. Sadly, I think BPB has got this wrong on the gate pricing, but with the current management in charge, it will fall on deaf ears....

You’re so correct that theme parks have competitive pricing online but then we have to consider how much bigger those parks are, and how much entertainment comes with them in peak season. I love pleasure beach, and return every year, but I believe they would actually create a bigger profit margin by keeping current online prices, slightly lowering gate and offering a discounted price. My family used to take trips of up to 30 people to Blackpool every year, the 10 kids would ride the rides whilst everyone else ate, drank and bought gifts for those at home. When the walk around pass stopped, they simply stopped going. Even if the passes at the time were £5 each.. that’s £100 missed out on from us and I’m sure there’s lots of other people the same. But it’s like you said there’s other places in Blackpool, and more specifically there’s other areas with rides & rollercoasters in Blackpool you’re not paying entry for, so I understand why people would go there instead.

One of my (many) gripes about pleasure beach is the fact that they change their prices all the time, so what is £40 for the 25th of May now, will almost certainly be more in a couple of weeks time, so I don't think its a fair comparison to pick dates more than a couple of weeks into the future. I realise that you can get it for £40 now but how many people book six weeks in advance ? I have also noticed that you can now book up to 9am on the day you go to pleasure beach to get their online price, so that is some positive news, but that is likely to be £43+ on a Saturday, if you leave it that late.

we both find that our ride count at bpb is so much more than Alton Towers so in that respect its cheaper for us as the queue lines at Towers can be horrendous. BPB is not in the middle of nowhere and has you as a captive audience so we both think it must bring back the non rider pass. we dont agree with free entry as we remember the drunks etc causing havoc in the days gone by BUT we would love to bring our family with us and encourage the non riders to have a go and join us . they will never do this without being able to walk round and see for themselves what they are missing. lets encouage them to do this 1st hand instead of just watching it on their phone, the next generation of thrill seekers will never happen if it costs so much to walk round.Rant over as this is getting longer than War and Peace aaargh

I feel like it should go back to free to enter. When I was 14 (in 1995) visiting my dad in Blackpool, he gave me £10 and I chose to pay for a single ride on the Big One.
That would never have happened if the park wasn't free to enter and Pay Per Ride.
When I visited years later (recent years) the park didnt have the same atmosphere and the Big One feels like it has run out of steam.

Passed the bpb one day last year on a hot day, prom was packed but the bpb looked empty, ok at weekends should keep the pre paid tickets but during the week should be opened up as pay as you ride would be a winner, always used to work otherwise it wouldn't be there now. Thing is me and the wife are now to old (ha ha) but our grandchildren would love to be taken in there when we're out with them. Don't mind spending a fortune on them but for us just paying around £70 for nothing, No.

I fear you are too focussed on the views of day visitors and pass-holders and are ignoring the millions of people who visit for long weekends, midweek breaks and weekly holidays. Those are the people who make a conscious decision to visit and allocate a whole day at Blackpool Pleasure Beach and will book in advance, even if it is only the day before.
It would be very interesting to look into and see what proportion of BPB visitors are day visitors to the town as opposed to people who include one or more overnight stays.
