    So weird that the undisputed team which was famous for having 2 bl mons is now just an OU team

  • @darksloomianlegacyworld3211

    late to the party, however the move beat up reveals all of your mons nicknames like "Mike's hit!" and such, but if they dont have any nicknames, it reveals their names like "Blissey's hit!" so make sure to name all of your mons!!

    A bit late to the party here, but as someone who started with competitive pokemon a few weeks ago, I can definitely confirm that big 5 teams are not easy wins for beginners. I tried the big 5 starmie sample team and had a tough time figuring out both what I wanted to do and what my opponent wanted to do at the same time, which was quite overwhelming. I got knowledge checked left and right and didn't understand when to bring in what mon or when to be aggressive/defensive. Then I tried the sample special offense zapdug team, which felt very intuitive for someone who has experience from other strategy games but don't really know pokemon intricacies yet. After a some time with that team I tried a big 5 team again, and it felt a lot more logical when I had learned more about spike management, trapping and making educated guesses on teams based on the first 1-3 mons you see.

    Great video! For Agil Meta Jolt/Spikes, what was the reasoning for Baton Pass on Jolteon? If it's faster than most of the tier, would Baton Pass not nearly always function the same as switching out? Or is it supposed to have some synergy with the negative priority Roar?

    • @kalaveet2857
      @kalaveet2857 Před rokem +15

      Baton Pass is used on Jolteon for multiple reasons. First, Jolteon can BP out of a full health Dugtrio Trap because Duggy lives Hidden Power from full.
      Secondly, if you are aware of how U-Turn and Volt Switch are used, apply that knowledge to Baton Pass. When you Baton Pass on an expected switch from your opponent, you can always bring the right counter in against the newly switched in opposing Pokemon. We call that "dry passing" if you don't have boosts or a sub. This also leads to the opponent having to switch another time, racking up more spikes damage.

    • @SminkingDoctor
      @SminkingDoctor Před rokem

      It is almost always the same, except for when your opponent’s Pokémon switches out. I’d say BP is better early game to scout what your opponent likes to switch to to answer Jolteon. Roar gets better as the game goes on and your opponent is kind of forced to switch to a specific spikes weak answer.

      @@jimothycool Thanks for the reply! new to the channel, been loving the ladder content!
      What move sets do you use? always explosion? you bring up agility gross in this vid, but I've seen you use EQ + mash + protect + explosion, so I know you dont always use agility. do you ever use mixed metagross, or do you stay away from psychic STAB because gross SpA is lower than Atk?

    • @jimothycool
      @jimothycool  Před rokem +4

      @@blakegaley4456 My most used Metagross set is the Protect one, that set makes a team more solid vs Aerodactyl and Tar and you can't go wrong with it generally.
      Since this team pokepast.es/3150ffffc5b492e3 has a Protect Skarm and a Swampert, I'm good enough vs Aerodactyl and Tar so I can afford to run Agility which is a more aggressive option. Agility is a more rare set but it can be great on the right team, you see it on aggressive spikes teams like this with stuff like Aero or Jolt, or Physical offense teams with Mag
      Mixed Meta is good, I used it on a couple of teams here. My Jynx Offense team uses it and so does my Mixed Offense. It's useful to make a team better vs both Snorlax and Gengar, and you can use certain mixed coverage to bait in and chip down common Metagross switch-ins like Skarmory (using Thunder Punch or HP Fire) or Swampert (using HP Grass)
      The majority of Metagross sets will use explosion, it's the best move in the format. Some teams do use Agility Metagross with Rock Slide instead of Explosion though. This is usually on Swords Dance Pass Celebi teams, after receiving the boost from Celebi the Metagross can be a win condition so it prefers Rock Slide over Explosion in that context since it wants to actually sweep and hit more things like flying types, rather than trade

    • @jimothycool
      @jimothycool  Před rokem +6

      HP Bug hits Celebi, Claydol and Starmie. Double-Edge is another popular option as a 4th move for good neutral damage. Depends on the team and what you want to hit, if you can cover Starmie, Celebi and Claydol elsewhere and want something to hit Rock resists like Flygon harder, go Double-Edge
      I like Double-Edge when you're running Aerodactyl aswell, Smacking a Rock resist with a huge Double-Edge can often put them into range of Aero's Double Edge and let Aero clean up the game

    How viable are weather teams beyond sandstorm in Gen 3 OU?

    • @mattzr1550
      @mattzr1550 Před rokem +1

      They're ok but usually worse than normal special offense teams and they aren't anything like later gen weather because it's more about removing sand chip for snorlax or suicune

    • @9bit927
      @9bit927 Před rokem +1

      Usually it’s not an entire weather team. Kingdra rain dances for itself and is good. Sometimes Pokémon run sunny day to bump sandstorm once ttar is dead.

    • @mathfrom0to96
      @mathfrom0to96 Před rokem +5

      To understand the meta, you must have it in your hands. However, more advanced players can go off-meta with things such as Jynx.

    • @aldrichunfaithful3589
      @aldrichunfaithful3589 Před rokem +2

      that has never been true in any meta and you can always find ways to be creative, the best players are the ones who are aware of the meta and are one step ahead, and the best teams are the ones that find the right balance of countering specific meta threats and having their own function, and eventually the meta will catch up and use those teams and people counter it to build more anti meta teams. its how these games work, and its why even when the game is decades old people find new ways to play it
