Losing more than a couple Pokemon kills stall dead, and on my end looking at your teams, I have to guess what nonsense set y’all are running. Best case scenario, it’s a sample team. Worst case scenario, it’s some unholy jank I couldn’t have predicted that instantly takes somebody out, and Tera makes that even worse.

    Can I make a case for the tactical advantage of making decisions quickly?
    Scenario: You lose a mon due to a crit or a miss, whatever the circumstance may be. You have a mon that is sometimes used as a revenge killer, say scarf Hydreigon. You haven't revealed your coverage move yet, or your item. If you instantly click Hydreigon its a lot more intimidating than mulling over a decision to bring out a mon that doesn't immediately threaten to punish.
    The speed in which you make decisions can inform your opponent of your intentions, but you can also use that to mislead. Not saying you shouldn't use your time to your advantage, because I absolutely agree.

    • @BKCplaysPokemon
      @BKCplaysPokemon  Před 3 lety +2

      I agree on principle, but this is assuming the player making such a move knows what they have to do already, whereas moving without knowing why you're doing it is what the timer is supposed to alleviate

    Great video! I think this’ll help newer players realize how much information they have at their disposal without having to assume almost anything. Speaking of assuming, though, I’d like to point out something that could also be helpful for you in a battle (especially in a team tournament). So, turn 2 of the bro fist vs z0mog game: heatran clicks stealth rock as jirachi u-turns out and lando comes in. As you mentioned, we now know that z0mog’s jirachi is slow and bulky; however, the u-turn revealed a lot about the heatran set to z0mog. After calculating the damage, he knew it was offensive, but not only that; since no leftovers were shown you pretty much confirmed that the heatran is Z move (they don’t really run any other item apart from lefties and Z stones). Moreover, you know the reuniclus won’t be Z move and neither will greninja (though it might’ve revealed to be scarf already, idr who switched out first). But, and this is where the assumption comes in, during that wcop the players from US Northeast (bro fist’s team) liked to run modest stealth rock heatran with lava plume, earth power and z flash cannon. Since he’d been preparing for his match, z0mog most likely knew this, and thus could be wary of it clicking z on the fini, for example. It didn’t save him this time because bro fist was far ahead, but it could’ve.

    Yo BKC. I just wanted to say that this has been very helpful to me. I am also the kind of player that just keeps mashing buttons. I literally used the timer to eat or do something else in between battles. I will also keep this mind and play at a better pace. Even I can tell myself that I was tilting and rushing through some games for example, when I don't scout grassium Tran or stuff.
    Also I want to say that I have really been enjoying your content as of late. I have not played any gens other than 7 and 8 but still you present the earlier gens such a way that it is still very enjoyable regardless. For instance, I really enjoyed that DPP ubers vid where you go over why Arceus was banned and then the viabilities of all mons in Ubers. I had been watching FSG for quite some time now so I should have known the quality would be maintained if not better not this channel too.

  • @smogonchristo5939
    @smogonchristo5939 Před 3 lety +3

    Re: 4:12
    I strongly disagree with your argument that clicking quickly gives no reward. Clicking quickly gives a substantial advantage, as long as the move being clicked is a good move.
    1. The most straight forward advantage that clicking quickly gives is not allowing your opponent to cancel their move. This has huge upside if your opponent ever makes a hasty mistake.
    2. The next advantage is something I’ll call “establishing the 50-50.” When a player makes instant moves they are communicating to their opponent that “this was not a 50-50 to me, it was an obvious choice”. When both players are taking their time on a turn, it establishes a 50-50 scenario, because both players know that each other are considering between the (typically) 2 options. When this occurs, the odds you make the correct play will be closer to truly “50%-%50” than if you click instantly. The brunt of the prediction mind games is thus on the slow player.
    3. The next advantage for players that click quickly is that a slow player will have to play quicker than they usually do to keep up with the fast player. This happens naturally, but if the slow player continues to play at his typical pace, he will end up in time trouble in the end game. When the slower player starts playing quicker than normal, he is more prone to mistakes.

    • @BKCplaysPokemon
      @BKCplaysPokemon  Před 3 lety +5

      I agree, but like you said, this is only if the move is good, which assumes that you are experienced enough to understand what these good moves are intuitively. less experienced players tend to burn through games without thinking about their moves and tend to let games get away fr them as a result.

      @@vincent-ataramaniko Gyara is only B tier in the vr and Conk isn’t even ranked. My guess is that Gyara is difficult to splash outside of rain, and can’t really sweep in a meta where Washtom, Latios, and Ferrothorn are as good as ever. As for Conk, it faces heavy fighting type competition with Terrakion and Breloom, the former being fast, packing SD, having SpD enchanced by sand, and the latter being a Knock Off/Status absorber with nice defensive utility, while packing great dmg output. Conk has higher dmg output but is slow asf. Considering how splashable Breloom is, is it really worth giving up role compression for Conk? BW is in a state where defensive utility is highly prioritized, which is why mons like Infernape and Lucario fell off the meta while others didn’t.
      Just to give examples
      Latios: Immune to spikes, can potentially run Roost/Recover for longevity, ground immunity, can switch into Keldeo, Washtom, Breloom, and Tentacruel while being an absolute nuke.
      Keldeo: Resist Stealth Rocks, checks Ttar, Drill, Tran. Can run a Toxic + Protect set to wear down all of it’s counters except for Tentacruel, Amoonguss.
      Garchomp: Sets up rocks, immune to sand, can lure stuff like Skarm with Fire Blast, and can break Zam’s sash with Dual Chop.
      Thundy-T: Absorbs Volt Switch, immune to spikes, forces out non Rock Slide Drill and checks Breloom.
      Reuniclus: Immune to Sand and hazards which are a major part of the BW OU metagame, can 1v1 non Shadow Ball/Signal Beam Zam, is a strong wincon, and can keep itself alive with Recover.
      Alakazam: A fantastic rkiller, immune to spikes and sand, and hits like a truck.
      Hydreigon: Decent bulk, immune to spikes, amazing coverage, doesn’t care about Pursuit Tar, and can keep itself alive longer with Roost while sporting the amazing Dark/Dragon typing giving it some nice key resists like Water, electric, and an immunity to Psychic and Ground.
