    I've been a super casual player since Blue & Red. All I've ever done is pick Pokémon I like and just giving them the same type move and getting rid of the ones that do no damage. I'm trying my best to learn so thank you for the help.
    P.S My favourite Pokémon is Zebstrika, that's how casual I am.

    I think the most important lesson 1 should learn when getting into competitive play is you will not win every battle. You are gonna lose a lot and that's not bad. Like he said in the video it's impossible to squeeze everything onto a team and you will encounter teams that you don't have an answer to or teams that will shut down what you're trying to do or you're just about to win but that 10 percent chance to miss heat wave happens or you were fully paralyzed for the turn or you flinched to an iron head. RNG will say that you lose the battle but that's just part of the game

    • @dayshonsmith1485
      @dayshonsmith1485 Před rokem +5

      That’s very important to remember!!! that’s usually what I teach people as well! No matter how great your team is… you’re either run into someone who outsmarts you, you miss something that was crucial, you make a wrong Prediction, or the team your facing has answers for your team &/or you have NO answer for there time… it happens and that’s ok. The game has HIGH levels of RNG and prediction in it… being ok with that and not letting it get to u is very important

    • @NVE
      @NVE Před 10 měsíci +5

      @@dayshonsmith1485 i guess its sort of akin to competitive poker in a way. A lot of strategy and skill but also a lot of chance.

I'm also starting to learn about EV and IV training and it's so interesting and cool! I was never allowed to play these games as a kid so now I'm 25 and attempting to learn it and really make my brain work and it's been so fun so far! Gotta say though thanks for compressing these down into shorter 10 minute videos and making it easier for a noob like me to understand! My teambuilding skills are kind of decent I guess, but I could definitely use a deeper understanding of what I am doing and why I am doing it. Because my strategy so far was to steal teams and movesets and then tweak them according to my own playstyle and experience lol. I look forward to a video of yours explaining which Pokemon have great synergy and practical examples on how to use them well together.

    • @forenta2061
      @forenta2061 Před 4 lety +1

      Lenny by my understanding, a tank is a Pokémon that’s like support, and can take a lot of hits. For example, togekiss learns this move called follow me, which makes it so all the attack hit it. In doubles, you can use this so togekiss takes all the attacks, because togekiss has very good hp and special defense and defense. Also, I think a wall breaker means a Pokémon to have that defeats Pokémon like these, because if you can’t deal with Pokémon like togekiss, it can be a very bad situation.

    Lol I always make gimmick teams like my doubles NU pink shiny team consisting of a Virizion (assault vest) and Sneasel (eviolite) to use beat up and get 4 stages to my physical attack. Then using reflect to half physical damage (if the Sneasel lives). And since my attack is so low, I can also use foul play against any strong physical opponents (with STAB). My last couple pokemon are mainly just mixed attackers like Celebi (half support, U-turn, still need to get a legit shiny Celebi D:) and Meinshao.
    Also yes I know Sneasel works really good with icicle crash & knock off but this is a gimmick team :v

      Setup sweepers usually need to use a setup move to become fast enough to sweep (like dragon dance on salamence), so they can't swap in and immediately threaten somebody out with speed.
      Speed control pokemon, on the other hand, do just that. However, if a speed control pokemon (like a fast dragapult with choice specs or a landorus with a choice scarf) is given the right opportunity, they can sweep, too. So yes, you're right to point out the overlap between the two!

    Arboliva is deceptively tanky and provides utility. So pokemon can fill 2 roles at once

      Phasers are pokemon that use whirlwind or roar. This can be used offensively to shuffle an opponent in and make them take accumulated hazard damage, or defensively to force out a pokemon boosting and threatening a sweep.

    Are these roles mainly just for singles or also doubles?
