    I think reducing resources in Germany and France is a good idea. I would try to place more emphasis on Americas role in supplies to the allied powers while giving Germany and the USSR work camps and throw in more resources in the colonies. Overall this would make things more historical and rebalance trade and give more reasons for people to fight over other areas.

    • @DrewPicklesTheDark
      @DrewPicklesTheDark Před rokem +15

      Yeah I always thought it was funny the home country has like a zillion resources, especially in the case of the UK or Japan, then Africa has basically nothing. I understand there were many resources not yet found in Africa at the time, but they could add focuses/decisions to unlock them, sort of like Saudi-Arabia has for oil (which IRL was not struck until, I believe, the 1950s). The US and USSR make sense, not so much Japan and the UK. Would give reasons to fight over colonial holdings.

    • @historicalprespective1876
      @historicalprespective1876 Před rokem +8

      @@DrewPicklesTheDark the VAST majority of the UK's industry and resources came from the home islands and settler colonies, the African colonies literally never made more money then was put into them (save for the obvious outlier). If PDX wanted a vanilla safari meta they would add some actual flavour, like being able to exploit the natives (not gonna happen Hoi4 is too PC), or make puppet states that have really high non core manpower buffs (kinda how Mittleafrika and Italian east Africa work but also not enough to be useful), again Africa wasn't really that helpful for the UK in the war and contributed almost nothing to the GDP

But yeah, my bad, should've thought of Egypt lol

    @mercdutch3950 Před rokem +7

    That Swedish 1940 BB has 1944 engine, a level 3 gun and 2 level 2 guns.
    The thing is, that most ships in this game have ahistorical armaments. For example, most starting battleships have 1 or 2 main guns which effecticely makes them a monitor (Ancient shitty ship). This one has 3, which I havent seen yet (maybe Italy got one).
    The ship designer however was not meant for this balancing of firepower. A good example is the Japanese focus which rushes the Yamato super battleship. It has 2 main guns, even though the ship model displayed in the designer is an exact copy of the Yamato. You can make a historical Yamato in the designer by adding a 3rd turret.
    Destroyers had several guns and torpedo launchers, however in Hoi4 a starting DD has 1 gun and 2 torpedoes at most making it a torpedo boat instead of a destroyer.
    If you add 4 heavy cruiser guns to a ship, it will show 5 turrets on screen. This 5 turret setup is exactly what the Myoukou and Takao class heavy cruisers had in real life, but in hoi it only has the frontal 3 guns. (And Takao class are Myoukou class for some reason)
    A solution to this problem is giving older ships with older guns terrible stats, so that you can add more for historical accuracy and balance it out. A good other way of balancing old and new ships is by buffing fire control and radar even further and making ships more dependable on them. Percentage bonusses are where its at.
    Of course, some historical ships are hard to design. How are you supposed to balance a battleship like Fusou with 12 guns in 6 turrets without nuking its other stats. But it can be done.
    Dont forget that FC 3 is a 1940 tech and Radar 4 is 1942. They could expand on this by making even later techs. Nations like the USA and UK get several radar tech bonusses from focusses, which should allow them to go deep compared to a nation like Japan that did not have the same radar and fire control tech pre war and were largely reliant on optics for information (which they were very good at).
    This is a pretty big post for someone who just saw a 3 turret ship. I am hoping navy gets another rework. It is also nearly impossible to build a historical navy in hoi4 because the production costs are too high, resource and industry wise. A 1940 DD with 3 DP guns costs 6 steel per factory > 60 max. A 1940 CL with DP guns costs far less depending on your armor as CL DP guns dont add 1 steel per gun for some reason but DP DD guns and 1944 DD guns do.
    Also, CL guns stack on top of each other in the ship designer menu for a while now. This visual bug is highly frustrating as you cant make a cool looking ship now.
    Imma stop ranting here.

  • @andromidius
    @andromidius Před rokem +39

    Regarding ship building - I'd love to see a rework where you assign the region that builds them (and can't swap without losing a lot of progress since... you know, it doesn't float yet, so will need to be disassembled and moved like cargo). Then you can assign as many Shipyards as that region has (or maybe bordering regions too, building components off-site and transporting them in, like the guns, electronics, etc). Then you can potentially go really hard into building a Battleship as quickly as possible if you focus on concentrating Shipyards into one small area (with diminishing returns after, let's say, 10 Shipyards so you're not potentially pumping out Carriers every few months).
    Espionage could then allow the location to be found out by foreign nations, and maybe bombing or sabotage missions can be carried out to try and delay construction.
    Heck, maybe do this for all military production - like it was historically. Tank and Aircraft factories were prime targets for bombers, after all. Gives you a reason to assign more protection to specific regions too if you know the enemy has discovered your main tank production location. Rifle producing factories would be much lower priority for bombing raids and could more easily be dispersed in any case.
    Would also add the potential hilarity of capturing a region and gaining production of an enemy blueprint or partially competed warships (with obvious slowed production speed due to the chaos of trying to make use of a newly captured industry).

    Maybe Capital ships should be a % of your overall units of ships similar to Special Forces. Then you could add more dockyards back to them, and maybe some nations get an speed construct events/focuses for 24/7 production. And it was easy to retrofit stuff back then when analog, impossible to do today, so maybe something to make upgrading them easier and yes, repairs needs to be sped up. If not, a way to build more capital ships.

    (especially if you have enouth civ factories for the population as right now as the US having 1 factory or 100 civ factories does not matter for stability or anything.
    because right now after 1939 or so there is no point in building any more civ factory its military factory from this point forward.
    even thought needs would still increase.
    15:30 sweden was sort of involved the problem is that HOI4 does not really support limited tropps been in a war (voluntairs does not really work).
    Cladenses stuff does not exist like I can´t as swed send 1 div of infantry and have them show up as finns for the everyone else.
    also sweden would been a semi decent option for the resistance DLC as sweden was doing a lot of spy shinanigans whit the germans.

    The resource reduction needs to be paired with increased extraction deicions. Once you get past 1942 the costs for top tier divisions become absurdly high. I get that you aren't meant to have 150 mils of modern tanks and able to sustain it but the truth is I enjoy doing world conquests that take far too long to do. Ther is not enough resource in the rest of the world. Europe and USA have far too much resources compared to the rest of the world. I get that it is meant to reflect the technology at the time but I'm not playing this game for realism, let me have a viable Africa/South America campaign without having to kill the USA to have a sustainable military output.

Giving 2 or 3 civilian factories does not compensate at all for the loss of German resources ... it is a pity that they always mix focus trees from uninteresting countries, with general improvements to all countries such as the designer of tanks and planes.

    Ah yes the "Sweden was a neutral nation" meme. Sweden was a axis partner nation, traded gladly with germany, knowingly took payment in gold stolen from jews, poles and czhekoslovakians, then after the war decided that no, they did not in any way need to give that gold back, since they are such good boys they shouldnt have any consequenses for being THE axis trading partner.
    Im just sooooo surpised Paradox dont want to talk about that or mention it in any way ingame. Just want to continue the typical swedish fanfiction about their ww2 involvement.
    Id call it cowardice but the swedish state has been hushing that shit since 45' so whatever i guess.

    That blurred Field-Marshal looks like 'King Gustav V' considering that bald head and shiny costume.
    Based kingdom of sweden having the king lead its troops 20:17
    Also note the level looks like a 1 stat and nation leaders who are generals/fieldmarshals tend to be crappy levels
