5:23 Norwegian here and the "Print more money!" is historical, but more responsible than you would think. As one of very few countries ever Norway was actually suffering from deflation in that period so more inflation was good in that rare case.

You HAVE it so great now yes, but you definitely didn't back then. A country being unstable when just being 25 years old isn't uncommon especially before all the oil money. I love Norway it's a nice place but at the time it was not in a good place.

There is a relatively small country which can become an industrial powerhouse by focus tree. The franquist Spain joining the allies, you will be able to do the Spanish miracle focus which will give you tons of factories.
Devs clearly never saw ‘King’s Choice’ or saw what a bunch of old men and young boys did to the Blücher when the Germans tried to initially take Oslo lol.
Most likely the only place where norway will have any desent troops!

One thing i dont like with these updates is that each country have more and more states. But since the new states have 50k people and 3 buildings slots, it is useless to build infrastructure bc you will not use the bonus enough compare to construction cost of infrastructure. So by doing this, they nerf infrastructure
I hope Paradox maybe change the cost of infrastructure or that it sort of scales better.
aka a small/large low pop region cost less to uppgrade the infrastructure on then a larger populated region.
Why would a highly developed region reduce entrenchment? Replacing trees with buildings would allow better movement for vehicles ig but it also allows for better defensive infantry tactics. Paradox really needs to take their time with this one so we don't get broken game mechanics and stupid focus tree features that only get half fixed until the end of the game's life cycle

Germany has by far the best focus tree. Its simple sure but it's also strong, not full of excess crap, and doesn't have any awful mechanics that ruin your game in it. The only thing I'd want is some more stuff added on for late game so I'm not done with it so quickly but I doubt they'll do that without adding shit I'd loathe.
Germany is way too strong, honestly. As long as you get a tank army out, you can easily steamroll the entire planet

I know the focus tree is storng but it feels empty to me conparing with soviets or italians etc.
The developers really don't understand what happened at the time. The problem with the army wasn't really that it was poorly organised and trained, but that there was a shortage of everything. The germans had taken all the major towns and with it all the weapon storages. There was not a shortage of men. There was a shortage of guns, that is the reason rogaland was surrendered, there were simply not enough guns and ammo to be able to defend it. There were many people who had tried to join the army but were told that there were literrally not enough rifles for them.
@@Dogpilot_NordKS Those garrisons were mostly new recruits or way too few to be able to do anything impactful. The one place the garrisons actually managed to stop the germans were in Arendal. The garrison were able to stop the german force three different times, until they somehow thought the german flag the ships were flying were french.
@@Dogpilot_NordKS That's what I said in the original comment. And that is why those national spirits make no sense. You could look at the state of the norwegian army in the middle of april and think it makes sense, but that ignores that most units didn't even have acess to any form of artillery and nobody had anti tank weapons. The issue was not the organisation of the army but the equipment available to them.
@@Dogpilot_NordKS When you don't have any weapons it is quite difficult to supply your soldiers with weapons.
What would be nice is that the icing of the baltic sea would also be incorporated so that armies could pass over the ice or that navies wouldn't have acces to that part of the sea. Just a suggestion :)
Quisling becoming progressively more "just fuck my shit up fam" is my favourite thing Paradox have added since the supply rework.
I hope there's some kind of achievement related to Punished Quisling.
One thing that would be interesting to add would be Quisling's time as defense minister under an earlier government.
Quisling, before selling out to the Germans, was actually defense minister for a short period of time and he was very much against the Norwegian disarmament policies of the time. He used the limited funds he had to actually do what he could to strengthen Norway’s defense, which became crucial later when the German’s invaded. So in an ironic twist, one of the reasons why Norway managed to hold out so long against Germany as we did (two months), was Quisling himself.
So I would very much like a feature where you can add him as defense minister and then use him to circumvent some of the armaments restrictions early in the game, but of course having him also gives a boost to fascism. So it is a balancing act.
Quisling was right to advocate a ceasefire. Norway stood no chance in a long war and all dragging it out would have done is get many more people killed. As defence minister, he was well positioned to be well aware of the situation.
The debuff of changing to fascism will make it easy for britain to intervene in its focus tree
As a Norwegian person, i expected Paradox(a Swedish company) to make Norway shit. I am disappointed, i require the rest of this focus tree to be incredible.
Don´t worry. The historical has to be crap, so that Germany has even desent chance to invade Norway.

One thing everyone keeps ignoring is that this is the HISTORICAL path. We have yet to see how the other ones are, and how they function. I'm pretty sure the communist or Monarchist path is also going to get war goals on at least Scandinavia, as you can see the focuses that give them are connected to something else that we can't see.

9:00 The problem with that tooltip is it's removing 1 thing and listing all the things it gave, and then replacing it with a new thing and list everything that it gives.
They just need to say "Replaces X with Y" and then list all the cumalitive changes.
But also grouping buffs together and then grouping the debuffs underneath would be better too.

Why does every new DLC add more weird, different and in my opinion, stupid mechanics that won't ever be used again?
They should implement the balance of power mechanic to US, replacing the congress mechanic. Also, putting a balance of power between the SS and the OKW, and between the navy and the army in Japan. It seems they had just forget it exists
Also, the militia mechanic in BBA would perfectly fit in the Spanish Civil War, but they also completly forgot they created it
The game started as pure ww2 simulator, mostly oriented towards multiplayer to have fun.
Then they decided to go full alt history for the single player enjoyment.
Then they needed to add things for the forgotten multiplayer community, so here a lot of new waky mechanics that works more with player/player interaction than player/ai
I think it’s important for them to experiment and see what works and what doesn’t. But they also work in an industry run by people that consider any time working on something that won’t make them money asap to be a waste of time. So they kinda have to wing it sometimes.

I'd love there to be two expansions for HOI4 - one starting in 1910, covering WW1 and the interwar years (since, you know, there was still a lot of war going on) and one set in the Cold War. And have them all be playable back to back.
Would need some serious balancing to stop snowballing - massive reductions in construction speed and research. But it might be good fun.

Maybe it's a prospect for resource in the top left so you get the oil as you mentioned earlier. However instead of only getting oil you get civilian construction speed bonus

I play as Egypt "ofc I make my own version of history and made Egypt op af XD", I always find Norway invaded, so I simply reinvade it, then make it into a puppet coz I have a friend from Norway and I kinda don't like seeing his country suffer like that.
I don't know why but I feel like I would also enjoy a path where you make a deal with the Reich and become a puppet.

I think they could do more with the Atlantic war. That was one of the most dangerous routes with no air cover, being a gun runner to Stalin.

China for sure. It's not as bad as Spain, but there is a lot of integration of its political focus tree with its economics - the inflation mechanics come to mind. Plus, as ROC China, if you follow the focus tree, you will naturally go Democratic unless you don't progress furrher into the political tree or if you constantly spend political power to suppress its growth. Otherwise, you're stuck as Non-Aligned.
So FeedBack, whenever you get to play this focus tree, the way i understood the development and defense mechanics is this:
Development 3 tiers:
Tier 1 -
Local Manpower +10% (It`s Alright)
Civ Construction +25% (Good)
Fort build -10% (meh, but bad)

Tier 2 -
Same as above +
Local Resources +10% (unless they gave norway more resources this is just meh)
Max entranchment -20% (Real bad)
Military fact construction -15% (real bad)
railway construction +15% (meh)
____________________________________
Tier 3-
Same as above+
Local Supplies -10% (bad)
Org Regain -10%(really bad)
Airbase construction +25%( ok)
Naval Docyard construction +15%(good)

Then, everytime you take a defnse decision you go down a tier in development. Tier 2 and 3 IMO are straight out bad, the best buff which is Civ Construction is tier 1, but then what i think might be funny is that you can basically buy divisions/mils with Political power/convoys. Assuming you can take the decisions more than once, you can develop a state to tier 1, stay there for the start of the game building civs, and when you need you can develop it to tier 2 and immediatly take the defense decision bringing it back to tier 1 and gaining a military factory. Or do the same but up to tier 3 gaining 2 divisions and a military factory when you go back down to tier 1. Is this good? absolutely not, but it`s A strat.

I honestly don't see a point to playing historical norway when playing monarchist will aslo probably put you in the allies and give you an actual country.
Also, cmon man, 35 days for 3 COASTAL forts on 1 province, Axis AI barely naval invades, you already get a massive bonus to defending invasions and you can always build them yourself in like 3 weeks either way. That focus is useless like most fort focus on the game. They really need to change the tree otherwise it just won`t be fun to play, i`d just like to remember that all baltic countries when NSB released had a focus that gave them 6 divs, 6! meanwhile norway gets focus that negatively impact your country on literally every branch, wth.

Speaking of Vikings did y'all know that they not only were the first to discover the Americas but were also the first to get their asses kicked by native Americans? Long story short, Vikings land and raid native Canadian's, Native Canadians decide to full on warpath the Vikings encampment, Viking warlord is killed along with several huscarls, Vikings decide "Fuck this shit, I'm going home." Queue Vikings for the only time I've ever read about deciding not to colonize a land and now I am wondering if the reaons Canadians have two modes "Overly Polite and, Walking Genocide" is because they all married into Canadian natives and are super sayans.

I think what this tree is slowly ramping up for is an eventual Austrian tree. The I feel like Norway and Austria are in the same boat when it comes to trying not to nerf Germany too much and that is the same reason that we are just now getting a Norway tree.

I have been seeing some mods actually increase Pop Growth. I was wondering what is the advantage to minimizing Conscription to see how much more you can gain in the future if you invest into pop growth speed and hopefully using that growth as a balance to how much manpower you could use.

Dave, here a tip on scandinavian pronounciation:
When you have a J, it is usually pronounced as "i", for example fjords. You pronounce fiords, not f j ords
Norway was definitely not reliant on British army, considering how little beyond naval battles and patrolling port cities.
The Polish and French did far more for Norway. Also, some of these just seem insulting, no spirit that actually helps.
Like are people forgetting Norway lasted the longest against a successful German invasion?

@@user-jt4pk8ii4z You should learn some less biased history. Operation Wilfred and Plan R 4 clearly indicate that Britain was not in Norway out any different reason than why Germany attacked.

The French and Poles where up in the mountains fighting with us at least.
Also, reason why we collapsed right after was because British miletary command didn't tell Norwegian Miletary about the pullout.
Like if a majority of one's force just dissappears, of course you going to struggle, or have too surrender.
The two months on paper is impressive, but you have to remember that Germany dedicated significantly less forces to Norway than France or Poland, and Norway is across the sea.
While I in no way desire to disparage Norway’s bravery, the extra month it took for Germany to take Norway was much more likely a matter of logistics than military prowess.

I feel like paradox doesn't learn the Spanish civil war system is hated for its complexity and how much it artificially slows the war down. Yet here they are again implementing similar features to Norway. I think they just need to take a page out of the book from the kaisereich devs.
