  • Process reliability, dimensional stability, cost-effectiveness and almost no springback, these are the advantages offered by our smartform® cold forming process.
    ▶️What is cold forming?
Cold forming is a forming technology in steel processing where the steel is deep-drawn, trimmed and post-formed until the desired final shape is achieved. In this context, ‘cold’ means that the steel is not heated to be formed, as is the case in the hot forming process.
    ▶️Where are cold-formed products used?
Cold-formed steels are mainly used in the automotive industry, for example in longitudinal members that are installed in the crumple zone of vehicles and protect the passengers in the event of a crash.
▶️thyssenkrupp Steel and cold forming: smartform®
Our smartform® process developed in-house allows for the reliable processing of ultra-high-strength steels in a dimensionally stable way with almost no springback. smartform® is a further development of the conventional deep drawing process in cold forming. In this process, the material is compressed instead of being drawn. While the component quality remains the same, there is almost no springback. In addition, the amount of material used is reduced by an average of 15 percent.
