Fascinating, thank you Poppy and family for the tour. It is mind blowing to think of the lives and events that castle has endured.

Yes, absolutely, that's why we like our history, it's those things that make us what we are.

Really do love Pevensey, it's so perfect for a wonder, looks like Poppy had a good one, which is always nice. What i love about this castle is the extensive historical events that happened there. Loving the tour and your videos, thanks for bringing us with you!

Fascinating tour, thanks very much for sharing! Thats one of the best castles we've seen I think! Incredible how they built such a thing all that time ago with none of the modern equipment we have access to nowadays.

You're welcome, they are amazing, the effort that went into building them.

Many thanks for the tour around the castle 👍. I remember visiting the castle in 2005. We were staying in Eastbourne at the time and were having a day cycling to/from Hastings, so stopped off at the castle en route. That's the only time that I've been there.

A local historian recently told me that, rather than the Normans invading at Pevensey Bay, they actually came ashore at near the town of Winchelsea (east of Hastings) as it was part of the Rape of Pevensey. Apparently is was a much more likely place because of the features of the coastline as it was at the time. In fact it was possible to get almost to Battle via the River Rother at that time in sea-going ships because the river was almost an inlet of the sea. Both Winchelsea and Rye are inland now. Most people tend to visit Rye, but I always recommend Winchelsea to anyone who asks. What’s left is a relatively small part of the new town (the old town being lost to the sea), and evidence of medieval town planning on a grid system. As well as being a very pretty town, there’s an interesting museum, decent pub lunches, views across the bay towards Dungeness from the view point, and a lovely church with many tombs with effigies, and the much visited grave of Spike Milligan in the churchyard.
I know it’s too late for you to visit, but others may be interested.

Thanks, that's interesting, it's easy to forget how the landscape has changed. We drove through Winchelsea on our way to Rye. We did like Rye, so Winchelsea sounds like somewhere for next time!

Whenever l see that much stone laid, l always think about all the sheer hard work it took.

    Hello,
We really enjoy the videos. This is not actually about this video, but a more general question. We have a Swift similar to yours. Do you use the Swift tracker system? Or indeed any tracker? We are considering a tracker, but I am concerned that a factory fitted unit could be easily removed by a thief as its location will be the same on all Swifts. Any thoughts?
    Thanks
    Stephen & Caroline

Thanks. We have the Swift factory fitted tracker. It's better than no tracker, the sad truth is that determined professional theives can overcome any security measure. I use a Clutch Claw as additional security and I'm registered with VIN chip and CaravanID.com - I have a video about that.
