- Volvo XC60 engineered by Polestar vs Range Rover Velar P400e, in this twin test we take a look at two stylish hybrids.
Jack has been driving around for around 10 days in the Volvo XC60 engineered by Polestar and has not stopped talking about how good it is, so Matt decided to invite him out into the middle of Wales to have a drive and chat about the new Range Rover Velar P400e and the Polestar. Both cars use similar drivetrains, both use a 2 litre 4 cylinder petrol paired with lithium ion batteries, both produce around 400hp and both a rampant to 60 mph. But are there differences? if so what are they and which would the boys choose if it were their money?

Two big differences. The AWD on the Volvo ie eAWD and is no match for the Velar off road. The other major difference - Velar buyers should invest in a good flask… the coffee in JLR dealerships is terrible!
PS. In conversation with friends buying new XC40 from Rybrook Volvo Preston. Excellent service and feedback. Have a German alternative currently, dealer service 'no where close' to Rybrook. Pass on the compliments! Cheers.

Love Volvo exterior but prefer the velour interior superior and probably think the fact everything doesn’t go through one screen would be a bonus
Torque in the XC60 is actually a smidge higher than the Velar, IF you use the same units of Torque - 495 lbft = 671 Nm...
I also like the velar, but I will take the polestar.
The Polestar is not the one to spot against the Velar P400.
I think the T8 XC60 (luxe finition) with air suspension would be a better comparison.
The Velar P400e can’t be spec’d with air suspension so I think it’s a relatively fair comparison
I have the T8 polestar tuned 455bhp with air suspension and it would crucify both these cars. It is an absolute banger and rides so smooth on the suspension even with 22” rims. I’ve had Audi, Range Rover and Mercedes and this is the best car I’ve ever driven! 💪🏻👍🏻
The compressor makes the difference driving the Volvo is incredible
Be good to get a comparison of the Volvo against the Fpace P400e, same chassis and power train as the Range Rover as the feel of the Fpace has historically been sportier
That would be a very good comparison, we will see if we can make that happen.
Did you try adjusting the dampers on the Polestar?
For looks and interior the Velar is on a different level and is much more comfortable on long runs. Performance is too similar to separate but the big difference for me is off road capabilities and that's where the Velar wins hands down. I'm picking my new Velar P400e up a month today.

Did he say full charge on the Volvo from a 3 pin plug takes just over 2 hours? Surely he meant a 7.4kw charger as 3 pin charges at 2.3kw

Good test. Simple for me, the Velar just doesn't look right, too long and low. XC60 is a lovely thing.
What about the difference between an XC60 polestar and an XC60 R without the dynamic chassis ? Is it only the brake power and motormanagement ? Can u also tune the T6 engine to have the same amount of HP as the T8 ?
T6 easily tune to 360 hp 480 nm 🤔 but you need change intercooler 😄
More interested in the electric range for each model and year
It seems to be increasing so much that I want to wait for the newer models although I'm ready now.
Also considering winter driving on country roads ☺️

Great video, however for a better comparison against the Velar drive the Volvo XC90 T8 polestar. It will blow your mind and has 7 seats.

Velar is superior than XC60.
Everyone seems to prefer the Volvo probably because of the reliability issues Range Rover has piss poor my mate says and he as a new one
The Volvo looks dull to me and are to common on the streets… Velar looks amazing and probably is better offroad..
Velar is more luxurious and drives much much better. You don’t want an SUV to be slamming the corners. Buy a sportscar for that… The Velar is fast and has all the comfortable options. The option list is also much bigger. I’ll go for the Velar any day. And for those saying that the Volvo looks “better”. For your reference, it hasn’t won any awards for that. Something that the Velar has. And for those who will be saying - not everybody has the same taste.. Well in that case something is wrong with your “taste” ;)
Volvo's back side is way uglier than velar
