    You're a fantastic teacher. I've been using Duolingo (which is also great) but obviously doesn't go in depth on the "why" certain things are said certain ways. Came here trying to find out how to tell if a noun is masculine or feminine and came away learning so much more. I'm 42 years old and my father was born in Italy, yet I've never learned to speak Italian. I'm hoping to surprise him once I've learned enough to somewhat carry a conversation. Only wish I didn't wait so long!

    Lecture Notes:
    1) Indefinite article: un/una
    Un for masculine, Una for Feminine
    2) Use Un' when a feminine word starts with a vowel.
    3) Strong Sounds (for masculine):
    STR, Z, GN, X, PSI, etc
    Use Uno instead of Un in these cases.
    4) GN = ni
    X = CS
    Z = DS
    BUONA FORTUNA

      A less dramatic one would be that the apostrophe stands above any missing vowel or consonant-vowel combo. Would have>would've. La acqua> L'acqua. Contractions.

    These courses are great, and I feel confident that I will be able to learn enough Italian for my next trip to Italy. You structure your courses in logical steps, the same way a child would learn their native tongue when attending school. It just makes sense and explains the "why", which is the best way for me to learn, rather than just throwing random sentences at me and expecting me to memorize them all. Grazie!

    Grazie mille Manu, I have just started learning Italian. I wanted to learn a new language, i am only 13, and I thought it would be pretty cool to learn a language which no one else in my class knows. I have only started this course yesterday, but today i can already see so many things which I know about italian. This course is really easy and making it fun to learn Italian easily. I hope you are not stopping to teach Italian and things about it any time soon. Since I am not allowed to spend any money or anything here, I am not able to join your website, but thx a lot for this free of cost video.

      @@Parkerlee1000 I left in between due to my IGCSE and GCE exams. I do plan to continue it after they finish tho. I did learn a lot already tho. I can now communicate with an italian with some hurdles.
      The biggest problem I faced tho, is that it requires a lot of passive listening, meaning using mobile which i m only allowed for a limited time, less than an hour a day.

    I have been using the Pimsleur method for years and kept getting stuck in the later, more difficult lessons, and gave up. I wish I had found this first! The listen and repeat method could only get me so far. It doesn't teach you language rules, how to identify masculine vs feminine words, articles, or conjugating verbs. You just have to pick up on it all along the way. I'm finding that learning the grammar in English and actually understanding why I need to say things a certain way, is invaluable. I will put my Italian to the test in a month, and I'm so happy I found these lessons first! Fantastico!

I can't even express how much that means to my brain lol, so many "educators" that don't give you the why and you're stuck in doubt because you don't REALLY understand when what they've just taught you applies because you don't even know why it implies in the scenario in which you learned it, so frustrating

    I don't want to give too much away. But this particular part of Manu's lessons gave me more insight into Italian documents I was already reading. A common phrase in those documents is "Uffiziale/Ufficiale dello Stato Civile" which basically translates to what we would call "Civil Registrar." Often associated with the "Sindaco" (Mayor) of the town. And Manu made me realize why it is "delLO STato" because of that word "Stato" which he explains here and I was reading those documents and taking the translation for granted and not realizing it. So now when I read those documents all of the little things I am learning I recognize even with documents I had already transcribed and translated.

    A simple tip for everyone. When you don't know or can't remember the Italian word when writing just put the English word in brackets. Also don't stress about the Noun and adjective sequence to much just put the word down when beginning.

    Grazie Manu! Do you know why in italiano the imperative of the verbo scusare is Scusa for tu and Scusi for Lei, but for parlare it is Parli for tu and Parla for Lei? Why the change in ending for one verb but the opposite for the other?

    Manu, how come ‘Artista’ does not become ‘Artisto’ for the masculine but it changed for ‘Psicologo’?
