Noel sounds like someone with stories to tell. He has a strong desire to create not just mindless entertainment but real art. People only like consuming meaningful things through stories and artistic mediums. You can't really talk about that shit in day-day life and fast-paced platforms like youtube or tik tok. This is probably a very real division inside of him and I understand why he doesn't just want to do Love Island episodes for his career. He has higher aspirations. Who's gonna stick around is the real question? That's not being washed up, that's moving onto what you were meant to do.

That really hits home. I watched an amazing show (The Leftovers) and my sister actually really liked it too. But we couldn't even get past surface-level conversation of the show. It was just standard like "it was so good" and "I love this character." I wanted to go further and discuss the meaningful topics of the show, but I just got the feeling that she didn't understand it like that. And whether it was a mutual agreement or one-sided, it sucks that good art can't be seen for what it is anymore. It's just easier to like what everyone else likes and not develop your own passions.

    Lyrics:
    Art is dead
    Art is dead
    Art is dead
    Art is dead
    Entertainers like to seem complicated
    But we're not complicated
I can explain it pretty easily
Have you ever been to a birthday
    Party for children?
    And one of the children
    Won't stop screaming
    'Cause he's just a little
    Attention attractor
    When he grows up
To be a comic or actor
    He'll be rewarded
    For never maturing
    For never under-
    Standing or learning
    That every day
    Can't be about him
    There's other people
    You selfish asshole
    I must be psychotic
    I must be demented
    To think that I'm worthy
    Of all this attention
Of all of this money, you worked really hard for
I slept in late while you worked at the drug store
My drug's attention, I am an addict
But I get paid to indulge in my habit
    It's all an illusion, I'm wearing make-up, I'm wearing make-up
    Make-up, make-up, make-up, make...
    Art is dead
So people think you're funny, how do we get those people's money
    I said art is dead
We're rolling in dough, while Carlin rolls in his grave
    His grave, his grave
The show has got a budget
The show has got a budget
And all the poor people way more deserving of the money
    Won't budge it
'Cause I wanted my name in lights
When I could have fed a family of four
    For forty fucking fortnights
    Forty fucking fortnights
I am an artist, please God forgive me
I am an artist, please don't revere me
I am an artist, please don't respect me
I am an artist, you're free to correct me
    A self-centered artist
    Self-obsessed artist
    I am an artist
    I am an artist
    But I'm just a kid
    I'm just a kid
    I'm just a kid
    Kid
And maybe I'll grow out of it

because it is but your feelings are still there. I've got a non-verbal autistic sister, and she breaks stuff a lot y'know, if i didn't let myself be pissed, if i pretended like i was cool with it i'd be miserable all the time! just bc y'all understand something you're doing is ultimately crappy doesn't mean you can fix it, and it's still a bad thing to do, but it's not wrong.
it happens, your circumstances don't always let you be the perfect person 100% of the time. if you aware enough to understand that you can probably try to atone, but learning that being a better person didn't mean that i was making other people happy all the time, but the effort i put into helping the people around me is enough, even if it doesn't show and even if i slip up. it may be imperfect but it's human.

NGL I was so relieved when my art professor told us if we wanna be renowned fine artists we're probably not gonna pop off til we're like 50. Never have I ever been more relieved to be a fine artist. It is tough though, seeing my acquaintances making like relatable funny shit for instagram and tiktok then turning around making something more nuanced for our class- and even though it seems like it's something they put a lot of work into, sometimes they'll go and kind of make fun of it/other artists on instagram and shit. They almost? cancel each other out? Like seeing both of their work sometimes made me feel like hey it's okay to be diverse and be able to make content for different platforms/audiences, but then they also just didn't seem very self aware? Especially when most of these kids went to like- performing arts high schools and didn't ever really struggle. Meanwhile it's very hard for me to make something I can actually be proud of and feel like is worthy for EITHER platforms. When I make shit for instagram/youtube I feel like it's not? that good, and just a way for me to make something a little low effort that will be validated, and when I try to post my actual fine art on instagram it gets like no validation or interaction so it makes me think the low(er) effort digital media content is just what people like more and I should try to make more of it? But then I end up just hating being an artist all together and wanna go be like a fucking accountant- if I'm gonna just be doing some shit for money and not because I actually like it. Then at least as an accountant I can cleanly separate making art for myself/my eventual career than for social media or some shit.

I feel like this is so untrue. There is so much more diverse cool shit now that you can find. In the 80s/90s you just had to take whatever was made and was given to you. Now you can access any art you want! A24 makes fantastic artistic movies that have reached the mainstream, hell parasite won best picture, Tyler the Creator won best album ,I think cool weird shit is the more mainstream now then it ever has been.

    • @brick75
      @brick75 Před 4 lety +8

extreme animation studios the point I think Noel was trying to articulate is not that there is no longer good art, but rather the art industry has been grossly oversaturated by cash-grab garbage. People now are so desensitized to stimulation that dancing half naked infront of your phone for six seconds can make you one of the most famous people on that platform. There are so many young youthful people that follow and consume this kind of media and their brains are different as a result. They grow up eating up this garbage that the majority of content creators put out and become unable to distinguish the bad art from good art. Corporations take advantage of this and pump out mediocre trash that will rack in tickets, sales, or views. It no longer becomes about passion, it becomes about money. This disconnect from any art form is very frustrating and that is what I think noel was discussing/trying to inform people about.

    • @j.a.osorio2005
      @j.a.osorio2005 Před 4 lety +3

@@extremeanimationstudios1118 It's not that cool shit does not exist, that's not my point or Noel's for that matter. The mainstream alone in those days had pretty much all the cool shit. Almost everything of great entertainment value was being made and discovered right before your eyes. The difference is that now the mainstream is not really about that, but you have to dig a bit deeper to get to the real cool stuff and it comes from independent sources most of the time. Part of the issue is the rise of the internet and people have always believed they should be entertained for free. So along came the rise of piracy and subscription based supply. People want to consume in large quantity without paying much.
Industries have had to adjust because they no longer fully control the supply, so they bombard you with quantity at the expense of quality in order to compensate.
That's why you almost never see unique movies or hear innovative music by the biggest artists. The independent world is where the real progression of entertainment is, but that too is susceptible of being corrupted because not everyone values the cost of entertainment.

I felt like this after I got my first job out of college. It's weird because it was a technology job, and I've always loved technology. I even studied this field in college. I didn't do what a lot of my peers did which was get a business degree and then work wherever will hire them first. While I was in school, and the short time after I got out, I did a lot of what Noel said which was fixing the issues in my life. Once most of them had been fixed, I found myself waking up everyday very early in the morning for work, working long and hard days, then coming back and ending the night with my (now)fiance and my cat. I had some money in the bank (I was even putting some in savings!), I had regular weekends, and I was starting a career all in my mid-20's. I had never felt more like an imposter in my life. I guess my "blueface moment" like Noel described in the beginning of this video hasn't come to me yet, but I'm able to accept that I'm just doing what's best for myself and my little family of my fiance and my cat. I've re-discovered the joy of reading by doing it at least 30 minutes everyday and I am trying to make exercise/stretching more consistent in my routine. Those two things help me with physical and mental pain I might be feeling and allows me to approach the rest of the day with a clear mind knowing that I've accomplished those two things. If you are reading this or watching this video: you can do it! Don't give up! Especially now during this pandemic! If you can't attend graduation, I am proud of you for this major accomplishment in your life. If you can't see your parents, I feel your pain and want to let you know that you will see them soon. Call a friend, or a sibling, or a parent, and just say hi. You will feel better soon.
