Teddy going through his emo phase in real time, honestly living for this
From Kpop to Emo. In my case it was the other way around :D
@@lisannegudegast5667 same 😂 I’ll always be an Emo kid but I’ll also gladly put SKZ on repeat 😂
I couldn’t stop laughing at his reactions 😂
Are y’all actually labeling Breaking Benjamin as “emo”?🤨
@@matthewcall3961 Breaking Benjamin is not Emo but is a gateway drug 😂
Teddy trying to figure out how guitar riffs work is AMAZING 😂
Around 3:50 right? This guy had me so confused 😂 I was like "you mean the GUITAR??!" Lmao I was like there's no way he doesn't know what a distortion guitar sounds like..
@@angelux2793 I think in the moment he was genuinely trying to understand what sound he was hearing after feeling the music. To be fair, the force of this sound comes from the mix of bass & guitar with the drums. If you take away one of those tracks, it loses the dynamics/presence/power depending on what's removed. When writing rock music it helps to think of combinations of instruments as their own sounds since it's like tasting eggs, then flour, then sugar, and trying to imagine what a cake would taste like lol
I really enjoyed that. What instruments am I hearing!? Guitar, base, drums...another guitar, sometimes a keyboard, now and again a cow bell....
This song is pretty much the blueprint for rock in the 2000s.
TOOL - the pot
BB a rock band or metal band?
@@benndarayta9156post-grunge / alt metal maybe..
Doesn't matter what it is, it's just MAGIC!!!!❤
@@cryptomike1577very much not correct lol while that song was absolutely killing it, there was not many people or bands with that sound or song structure, however the entire post grunge genre was getting very dark and melodic like this around this time, not saying it was because of them(as my favorite band I am bias and would say it was) but it did start flowing with this structure around the time of this release
Man, I love how every song you listen to somehow turns into a philosophical journey.
I always interpret this song as him looking through Jane’s diary looking for any mention of him. But he never finds it. She meant everything to him but she didn’t feel the same way. Now that she’s gone he’s trying to find any glimpse that she thought of him. He blames himself that he wasn’t there for her before she died. They more recently put out a song called Angels Fall that sort of ties in with this song. Give it a listen.
I always took it as some kind of "stalker song". He's obsessed with her and tries to force his way into her life. To accomplish that he even breaks into her house/room and reads her diary to use the information he finds there to force her to love him back (and to finally be mentioned in her diary = to become someone she recognises).
@@labrynna87 he is not a stalker.
This
@@labrynna87 If you look into it while it's not Fully Confirmed apparently this Song was Based off a Real Girl that I believe the Lead Singer if I remember correctly was in Love with. But apparently she committed Suicide and later on he looked through her Diary to get a Glimpse into her Mindstate. And found that None of the Entries were about him and were about some Other Guy. Which is why one of the Lyrics is like I'm Trying to Find My Place in the Diary of Jane, Try to Find Out What Makes You Tick, As I Burn Another Page and I Look the Other Way, and Many More Etc all Hint at This Conclusion.
So no this Song is Not Based on the Idea of a Stalker. Quite Frankly the Sad Opposite in Fact dude was in a One Sided Relationship and Got Cheated On. And didn't even know about it till after Her Death.
@@labrynna87 can understand how it can come off as such a song, I thought it was more a reflection on who he thought Jane was to him and finding out he was not important to her as he reads through her thoughts(diary) after she's gone.
"Is Jane dead!!???" i love u im so glad u reacted to it, this song was #1 in my emo days 😅 still slaps too! Their song Breath is bomb as well
I'm growing up in the era when this song released, one of my favourite band.
I grow up in Bali and hardly speak English back then but this song and his other song So cold, motivated me to learn English so I can understand the lyrics, I have to look word by word on the dictionary.
To these days, this one of my fave song too, an absolute bangers 🔥🔥🔥.
He should do some a perfec circle songs too.
was?
i like how he goes "this is a msterpiece" as soon as the first chorus ends 😂
its true too. its really a good song and still will be in many, many years.
Breaking Benjamin was absolutely one of my favorite bands growing up, and definitely solidified my love of rock music. This is very typical of great rock music, you should check out more of the genre it does not disappoint!!
I remember seeing them with three days grace and Seether almost 20 years ago. Awesome show
Yep Growing up in that era too. One of my fave too.
This bring back lots of memories.
Late reply but dope channel bruv keep killing it
Same for me. My son’s name is Benjamin.
Shinedown was big for me too. 🤘🏻✌🏻
Funny story, Benjamin Burnley, the lead singer performed at an open mic night, and he somehow ended up breaking the microphone. Some guy said “Thank you, Benjamin for breaking my fucking mic”. And that’s how the band got its name. I saw them once and it was the most incredible show I’ve ever seen.
LMFAOOO I had never heard this before. With a name like Breaking Benjamin there are so many deeper explanations you can try to think into, and a lot of people reacting to them do as well, but this is so much better
Teddy discovering 2000s bangers is my new favorite thing.
And it's only gotten better. Dudes on a fucking journey if a lifetime
Early 2000’s alt rock/emo is my all time favorite genre. On behalf of others like me, welcome 😊
Also, there’s sooooo many to recommend, but based on your reaction, I would suggest to react to Chevelle - The Red or Vitamin R
There is an acoustic version of this song that's done on the piano that just shows how talented the singer is. This band is amazing!! Great reaction!!
I actually like that version better because it sounds so "clean" if that makes sense
They did the whole album acoustic and it’s ALL amazing. Great melodies with a beautiful voice on top. 🎉
Ben Burley's mind travels at the speed of light. He stops time in his music, reverses it and brings it back to normal speed so the rest of us can understand it. Legendary musician.
TRULY loving this little “Teddy getting into rock” series! I’m ready to see you dive into Motionless In White but idk if your ready for that yet. 😂
Just throw him in the deep end and put him on Lorna Shore 😂
@@benwo0ds ooooo absolutely that would be a good reaction to🤣
@@benwo0ds I think he’d die
Or In This Moment...🖤
@@benwo0ds just toss him in the deepest pits and very him to listen to like Mayhem, dark throne and stuff 😂😂
If this blew your mind you got A LOT of rock and metal to catch up on. You got a lot of good music to feast your ears upon.
I love seeing people find rock/metal for the first time, so many people don't ever give it a chance enough to realize that they are actually a fan. I am so here for this guys journey in to the rock/metal world.
Teddy... This just made my shitty few days happier. BREAKING BENJAMIN is one of my favorite bands of all time. They were what SKZ is for me now. They are based out Pennsylvania, where I used to live. I've seen them live more times than I can count, and they sound exactly the same. If you want to know anything more about them, I gotchu. Their sound is unique in Alternate Rock. No one else sounds like him. Ben (the lead singer) has such a distinctive voice.
If I may, I highly recommend these songs: Polyamorous, Home, Red Cold River, I Will Not Bow, So Cold, Failure.
Thank you so so much for this one!❤
YESSS! I agree with EVERY SINGLE word you put here!!! I love when Teddy reacts to the ones that are closest to my heart so all SKZ reactions are amazing and now him getting into my ALL TIME FAVE band Breaking Ben I absolutely love it!!
My favorite song from them is Firefly.
Wow I didn’t know there were other people who love Breaking Benjamin AND SKZ like I do 🤣🥰
My literal 2 favorites
Mine too! And I would have suggested the exact same song as you haahaa, as well as save yourself and never again
This song still goes so hard lmao. Rap and rock (good rock) can have more in common than you’d think. Love the reaction!
So this was the comment that got him into his nu-metal addiction?
To burn another page doesn't always mean to literally burn it, but to read another page. So he could be reading/ burning through the pages looking for mention of himself. Or not, just some food for thought. Love the reaction
Are u kidding teddy? this is my adolescence right here! thank youuu
You got to remember that the singer is also playing a main guitar role as well as the lead guitarist. Alot of it is them playing simultaneously.
Oh wow I'm shocked you never heard this song before! Breaking Benjamin is my childhood! They're huge here in the US at least! One of the most known rock bands. I saw them live and met them a few times, and saw them play with motionless in white on stage. They're amazing!
With motionless in white? Wow where was that haha I remember seeing them at warped when creatures just dropped haha
@@orionhernandez3850 it was on a rock cruise that I went on called axes and anchors some years ago and Chris went on stage with breaking Benjamin and sang a song or two with them. It was cool!
@courtv9867 "axes and anchors" I have no idea who might of all been involved with that cruise. But hands down the greatest name I've ever heard for a cruise!!! I wanna go on one like right now!!! Who ever created that idea is a genius, give that man a raise! Man... now I'm gonna be looking for the next few hours on where I can find an axes an anchor cruise.
Oh my god, I was working overtime and couldn’t catch the premiere but OH MY GOD TEDDY who recommend this song to you? I could kiss them! I grew up with this song 😂
That was the first thing a friend of mine that used to criticise my 12 yo taste in pop recommend to me and Breaking Benjamin along with Linkin Park and Three Days Grace ultimately turned me to rock and metal. (They’re also the reason I can’t listen to chill songs anymore)
I’m so glad you liked it, if you want more recommendations along those lines let me know. I have lists with rock/metal/electronic songs with also rap parts that no one else seems to like except me because metalheads just want more breakdowns and screams, people who listen to rap don’t like metal and I’m here like, yes give me variety plsss 😅
Teddy having epiphany after epiphany was the highlight of this video. I thought he was going to break 😂
OMG OMG OMG 😱
THANK YOU TEDDY 💖💖💖
I'm sooo freaking happy that you liked it, honestly🥲
this song is from in my past life and it makes me unconditionally happy
here are some, I think, classic songs that you might like as well:
P.O.D. - Boom, Youth of the nation, Sleeping Awake, The Messenjah
Hollywood Undead - Been To Hell, Young, We are
Thousand Foot Krutch - Courtesy call, Move, War of Change
Three Days Grace - Animal I have become, I Hate Everything About You, I'm Machine, Landmine
sorry for a long list, I'm way too hyped right now 💖💖💖
We are from Hollywood Undead is a MUST
Did we share an iTunes playlist? haha
THREE DAYS GRACE AAAAAAAAA IM IN MY FEELS AND FLASHBACKS
Copy and paste
Day of the dead. Is my favorite song from Hollywood undead
I loved Breaking Benjamin growing up... even saw them live twice... one of the concerts was with another band called Three Days Grace. You should check them out if you haven't yet!
You saw a breaking benjamin and 3 days grace concert?? Together???
@@austinlewis8325 yes, one opened up for the other
Just gotta say- what a supreme delight to watch you experience rock music!!! Breaking Benjamin was one of our favorite bands growing up in the states. To see someone come across rock so organically and wholesomely is just incredibly satisfying, good sir. 👏🙏👍
Someone has just been introduced to the classic hard rock transition. Much like real life emotion, the mood of a song isn't always the same, it can change on a whim. Late 90s and 00s rock and metal is my jam, and Breaming Benjamin is one of the best of this Era of music
Teddy getting into rock. I love it. Breaking Benjamin is great. In this band you have two people playing electric guitars one a bass guitar and the drums.
It's so fascinating to see someone who listens to rap and hip hop break down a rock/metal song (I'm honestly not sure what genre this is exactly, Breaking Benjamin is a distinct style on it's own), I've heard this song quite a bit over the years, but I never actually tried to analyze it. Good stuff, love your in-depth reactions. Also, if you liked this style, may I recommend Masterpiece by Motionless In White, it's a much newer song, but it definitely gives Breaking Benjamin vibes, and the music video itself is really cool to take in as well.
Funny enough, Breaking Benjamin has a song called "Blow Me Away" that you might like, especially if you ever were a fan of Halo 2 back in the heyday
I recommend Welcome to The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance. I'd be shocked if you haven't heard this one, it was and is one of the biggest most iconic "emo" songs in the last decade. It's dynamic and a classic.
Teenagers would also be so crazy for Teddy to react too!!!
Famous Last Words, The Sharpest Lives, and Dead!
I was just about to recommend this 😂
@@ShaychanXG Man nobody ever talks about how much of an absolute banger The Sharpest Lives is. Would love to see more people in general react to that one!
@@mattashworth9744 in my honest opinion, every song off TCFSR and TBP is a banger but people only talk about the most popular ones.
I love MCR and BB but they are two completely different bands
Man what I wouldn't give to go back and rediscover this band. Ngl I hated their music until I saw them live. A friend won tickets to a concert and took me. Hearing the music live and seeing them go the off on stage sold me. They were brand new and were playing with Shinedown, another band I wasn't sure of until I saw them live. Great times and memories you're bringing to me just due to your enthusiasm! Thanks bruh 😎
Ohhh Teddy… this is making my little rocker heart so happy. The instruments vocals and lyrics are to me the absolute best. I’ve seen breaking Benjamin thrice will see them this summer for a 4th time. Love your reactions you’re still my favorite
Coming home by avenged sevenfold will absolutely blow you away!!! You absolutely must do it!! Falling in reverse is touring with them. Avenged Sevenfold is headlining! They're an unbelievable band musically and vocally!
That's my favorite song byAV7, thought I was the only one.
I got to see them in concert for the first time in 2019, they're so good, one of my favorite songs is "Dear Agony" with Lacy Strum
Maybe hes burning through the pages searching for himself in the diary, but with no luck, there is "no love".
Love your passion listening to these songs, its like im hearing them again for the first time, just through your reactions.
Great reaction Teddy! I love you are so invested in that line “ no love, there is noooooo loooooove”. This song was a huge hit and is probably their biggest. The guitars are making most of the sounds and they have several guitar tracks going.
As someone who is a jazz enthusiast, this song is an exception. It's one of my favorite songs out there
"In rap or hip hop it's usually a synth as opposed to..whatever instrument this is" ... brother. welcome to the world of electric guitars 😆 it's a whole new world homie. You earned yourself a new sub
I am so envious of watching someone get to enjoy all of these amazing bands and songs for the first time. Puts nothing but a smile on my face.
Awesome reaction!
Breaking Benjamin is one of the best rock bands for sure!
All of their songs are just bangers! I suggest checking more songs from them. There's a couple:
I will not bow, Evil Angel and Blow me away🔥
Just found this guy and i now decidet to binge watch, because he appreciates the same things as i do so far. Love the energy and passion he throws out. Love people discovering rock because i absolutely love nothing more than real insteuments
Breaking Benjamin is still in my Top 3 Bands of all time for almost all of my life.
The sad story of Benjamin Burnley can be heard in the songs of the "Phobia" and "Dear Agony" albums. Absolute recommendation
Bro! My favorite band ever. Thank you so much for reacting to them. My heart is full now.
This track remains to this day my #1 most played across any medium. Just an absolute banger from one of the greatest bands to ever do it, a timeless gem.
Had to pop back and give this another listen. In rock, it is very common to have a lead guitarist, a guitarist, and a bass guitarist. The layering you are hearing is a combination of all three guitars. Each guitarist adds a layer and then depending on synth pedals each of those guitars can produce different sounds.
As for vocals, there can be a wide range, sometimes by multiple people and others with just one person, like you hear Benjamin do. He is very talented in the vocal realm. However if you really want to hear a vocal master, David Draiman with Disturbed is absolutely stunning. I highly recommend you listen to their song Pray, it will absolutely blow your mind.
Ben, the lead singer/guitarist is their main writer and is one hell of a writer at that. They're also damn good live. They have a massive amount of great songs.
Their music is emotional, you should try Red cold River, Torn in Two and Tourniquet, one of the best music video series ever. An emotional roller coaster. After falling in reverse, this is an even deeper rabbit hole 🤣.
"Is he broke?" hahahahaha that one took me out, bro!!!! I'm a new sub as of today but I'm already binging your rock reaction videos. Really love how you get into the music and the lyrics and your thoughtfulness in interpreting the meaning of the words.
When this song first broke big, I remember a DJ in Chicago had to put out a notice that it wasn’t called Diarrhea Jane.
Rock, particularly the heavy metal rock, is the ultimate sandbox for musical variation along with symphonic orchestral composition of course. It's highly technical music as you can hear.
I’ve recently become such a fan of your reactions! It is super easy to tell that you just love music in general & enjoy doing this!
“So Cold” & “Dear Agony” are also great songs by Breaking Benjamin (there is also an “Aurora Version” of Dear Agony done that features Lacey Sturm that is really well done) ❤
Gotta love lacey Sturm...she has such a unique voice and it pairs quite well with breaking Benjamin
Dear Agony is one of my faves!
I literally just saw them live last night and the band KILLS IT live.
Even though the lead singer (Ben) was sick, they still went on and the bass and one of the guitar players took over the main vocal duties, as well as the lead singer of the opening band for a song. It was a killer show.
lol if you go to enough BB concerts you will notice Ben always says he has been sick. He has admitted he is a hypochondriac.
As a Stay and an old Breaking Benjamin fan, my worlds are merging here and it makes my heart happy.
Buried alive - Avenged sevenfold. One to check out for sure! You could deep dive avenged too if you wanted to.
Benjamin Burnley has one of the best voices in rock!!
One of my favorite things is watching people who've never really heard actual music played on instruments by talented artists learn that this is what music is supposed to sound like instead of synthesized hip/hop imitation music.
'this is a masterpiece' welcome to the rock/metal genre. This song was most of our gateway song to heavy music. This song turned many of us metalheads back in the early 2000s.
Yes!!!! Breaking Benjamin is my FAVE!!!!!! His voice is pure magic and the band.... could not be any better!!!!❤
The instrument you are talking about is the electric guitar playing palm muted notes with heavy distortion. Since you seem so interested in the composition of the music I figured I'd go ahead and let you know the general lineup for most rock bands. Usually you will have a lead singer, a lead guitarist, a rhythm guitarist, a bass guitarist, and a drummer. Equally as common would be for a single guitarist to serve both the lead and rhythm guitarist role making it a four-piece band. Obviously there are all kinds of deviations from this throughout rock and metal, but these are the most common lineups.
Breaking Benjamin has always been one of my favorite bands. They were my daughter’s first concert, in 2008. Ben’s voice is incredible. The gymnastics he can pull off are top tier. My favorite song was Breath. Only album I’ve ever bought the day it dropped. I still adore that song, but Red Cold River knocked it out of the top spot. It’s one of my favorite songs, overall. You and Failure are incredible too.
Breaking Benjamin is probably my favorite band of this genre. It was so awesome to see you appreciate this band. Cheers
Omg the picking up of the melody, sir you are god tier at analyzing what makes it good
OMG! I am sooo mad I missed this premiere. Breaking Benjamin is by far one of my most favorite bands! I still love how you feel the music and break it down in a cerebral way. Please, please, please react to So Cold by them. If you like this, you'll love So Cold. So much of their stuff is simple but very impacting.
Breaking Benjamin is one of the best of their genre. They are my favourite band without question.
Oh my gosh, he truly *truly* hasn't listened to metal or even much rock before! The quick beat change on "Would you like that?" caught him up. That's so awesome. Dude probably loses his mind hearing his first heavy breakdown. Proper "DISRESPECT YOUR SURROUNDINGS!"
Teddy talking about the subtitles saying “intense rock music” and saying “AS IF I NEEDED TO KNOW THAT! WE CAN HEAR IT!” Reminds me of a situation like happy Gilmore sticking out his hand to shake Chubs hand when he doesn’t have one. 😂😂 you may be able to hear it but the people who the subtitles are made for can’t! Hahaha.
Not laughing at you bud. Just thought it was pretty funny!
We love ya Teddy! I think you need to take more rock requests! I’ve seen a lot of hip hop heads turn to the dark side!
hahahaha I love both the movie and the comparison my guy 👏😂 tbf I’m completely unaware of the deaf market in music consumption, apologies lmao
More rock coming to the channel, I’m getting into it!
One of my all time favorite bands!! They're amazing live!!
This is my favorite all time band bro! So glad you appreciated it!
What you're hearing that is making the noises, is pedals they use for the guitar and bass which causes Distortion. It gives a Dirtier sound, the parts where he says "Do you like that? Do you like that?" They add Half notes into their Rhythm it's a more held out note for the chords they play.
Bro this band is amazing, saw these guys in concert and they are phenomenal live
Breaking Benjamin and Motionless in White both big parts of why I got into music. I'm glad I grew up in the wilkesbarre/scranton area where they are from.
Lads, your first video i watched really look into the song. Not the video clip. I love how you recognized the chord progression. Good job lads. Deserved my subscribe. 🤘
OMG!! As a kpop fan that also listens to (oldschool) rock this is a great video! I loved DOJ in my teens haha. Please react to *I Will Not Bow* next! That's my fave Breaking Benjamin song!
Great band! Watching you grow musically is fun!
Breaking Benjamin are all time, deffo check out more of them either on here or in your own time aha, everything by them is fire. Close to heaven, crawl and hopeless personal favourites
This is one of my favorite bands. They are very underrated in my opinion.
There is an acoustic version of this song that is as good as the original. I've seen them live 3 times. Don't listen to a lot of rock, but this is one I will never stop listening to. Great reaction, Teddy.
Breaking Benjamin - The Diary of Jane - this is a classic song
"I like this"... of COURSE you do. We ALL do!
And that noise you hear is one of the guitar pedals(distortion, highers pitch, lowers pitch, etc.) That can alter the guitars sound
Jane is a metaphor for her life... burning a page of her life... and all the meanings you can ascertain from that
I always hear this as “Diarrhea Jane” and now you’ll probably never unhear it as well. You’re welcome.
Bro you have a way with paying attention to music and breaking it down its brilliant keep it up ma g 🎉😂
Going through the metal playlist, this song gives me goose bumps every time! and most metal heads i know love hip hop too!! love love love your breakdowns and reactions!!!!
I've seen them 3 times live and they always put on a killer show!
Special aren’t they
Dear please god go down the Breaking Benjamin road and you WILL NOT REGRET IT.
BREAKING BENJAMIN IS MY CHILDHOOD!! man you brought me backkk!! ❤️❤️
"I'm not really a rock guy so I don't know what to expect."
*Hears the chorus of The Diary of Jane once*
"This is a masterpiece."
Their band name is deceptive; by listening to it, Benjamin Breaks YOU.
Omg, can not believe you actually reacted to this. I love this band, it has a special colour thanks to Ben's voice. And this is one of their more popular tracks.
It is sad though that they can never come to Europe because of his fear of planes.
It's always fun to stumble upon rap fans discovering rock music and reacting to things you've come to think of as common as something fresh and genius. Like the change of the chrods in the verse with long notes instead of blocked ones, at first I was like "yeah, mate, that's how music works, welcome to the show". But you're going deeper, which is great, and honestly welcome to this side, mate. I'm interested to see if you get to some older stuff like The Who's "Won't get fooled again" from 1971 and see how it all evolved from those times.
These guys are from an area not too far from me. I've been listening to them for about 10 years. They used to do April Fool's day jokes on the 97.9x (the rock radio station up there) listeners. The one year they told everyone they were quitting. It caused such an response that they had to announce it like halfway through the day that it was a joke. These guys are great live too! Ben has such a great voice!
I'm gonna need more of Breaking Benjamin Teddy
I just found your channel and ABSOLUTELY love it!!! I really hope you continue checking out more rock bands in the future!
Welcome to the world of rock, and in that world nothing is unorthodox, this is just a "normal" rock sound. I hope you keep on your rock journey it is so worth it.
The main question you ask, the answer is he sing emphatically he puts emphasis on his main grips
"Is Jane dead?!"
Kinda changes the meaning of "If I had to I would put myself right beside you" doesn't it?
It’s the transition to “post grunge” (debatable term but essentially aiming alt/rock/fusion's music to the mainstream) very indicative the transition from the late 90s to early 2000s & the end of the nirvana/Pearl Jam/alice in chains reign. Other bands like Breaking Benjamin are foo fighters, stone sour, Shinedown, switchfoot, creed, three days grace, disturbed, five finger death punch, seether. Then we get are “emo/scene kid” music which is marketed versions of these genres (which holds a special Place in my heart ♡)
