You guys are seriously masterful at building these window screens. Just to get it usable in a configuration you have is quite amazing. I’m not sure a pro could have done that any better. I fear about a year from now they will be stretched out and it’s going to aggravate you after all that work.

I did a W - E transatlantic on a 44 footer in 1980. Newport to Bermuda to Horta to Gib to Ajaccio to Palma. Really fond memories of the best ever fresh milk and ice cream on Faial, not to mention the happiest looking cows! Must be something about the Azores.

Glad the water maker is fixed. Georgie looks super happy to be back with mom and dad. Sometimes I think you guys live your life on one perpetual vacation, and, in a way you do. But you both spend a LOT of time working on the boat, and various aspects of travel and planning and social media.

I always take pictures on my cell phone before I start a project and as I start pulling things apart before I pull them apart I get pictures then when I get on the inside I take pictures where everything is at has a tear it apart I take mot pictures of what goes where. I know when I get done I've got a whole bunch of pictures that I can look back at if I question myself what goes where, cuz when you my age you forget very quickly... And when I was younger I screwed up a lot of things because I forgot how they went back together... LOL 😋 😂😁 👍👍 🤗🤗 🙏 🙏

@@mattjohnson6716 hey looking at your dodger setup, it's really cool compared to others with 1" stainless tubing. I noticed that you have no or very little Sunbrella around the perimeter where the Issenglass attaches to the Hard top or deck. This means you have to be dead on in your measurements, where as if there was let's say 2" of Sunbrella attached to the glass you could fit and trim to the bolt rope track easier. It's like having a litle extra wood trim peices on the sides of cabinets that can then be scribed to fit against an imperfect wall. Anyway it's easy for me to say thousands of miles away in California! Have fun in Ireland, Dan

When you need more "leverage" on a Allen key, take a small 3/8" drive deep socket, slightly larger than the size of the key, and add a 6"-12" extension. Slip it over the key and you have a Allen key "cheater".
I am guessing that the housing is cast aluminum or cast stainless and the bolts are stainless. I hope you are using (the special) SS anti-seize when you re-assemble it.

Hi guys! First off thanks for all the vids! Looking at the sewing, did you say a tack every inch to line them up? That seems huge to me. I have a few dress makers in my family and the tacks were always about 1.5 centimeters to 2 apart on larger areas and on bends 1 centimeter or less. The tighter the corner or curv the shorter the tack. As for the ripples in the fabric that was always the tension sew. I don't know if that helps in the future at all or not. Anyways fair winds!!!

Wow Matt I can certainly see why you decided to keep that particular watermaker pump for yourself. It is an incredibly well built reciprocating pump. Spectra makes a similar model, but their pump is made of chewing gum and tin foil compared to yours. What model is it I see the brand in the more section, and HRO Seafari seems to have gone to all rotary pumps?? I prefer the rotary pressure washing pump style for maintenance reasons, but they can draw a lot of electricity. Your pump likely doesn't draw more than ten amps or so I would bet, while a rotary can draw 60 amps at 12 volts with a 1/2hp motor. Now the rotary will produce a lot more water for the power draw, but doesn't work well with solar for instance. Most people can't run 60 amps on solar without a significant battery draw down. The reciprocating pumps will draw like 10 or 12, but will take a few more hours to produce what a rotary can in one. The thing is solar can mostly handle the reciprocating pump typically for a 3-8 hour run pretty easily. Wow that pump you have really does look like a one in a thousand find!!! Amazing!! Sewing that enclosure really takes a lot of patience and skill. Going back and forth is just part of the process, and if you did them everyday you would get better at them. Though learning more than just enough to get it done will waste a person's life. What you managed to get on video looked perfectly good. Herby and Maddie shouldn't kidnap people though...I think maybe they are more lonely after dropping their pets off before making real strides away from the US. You two at least have Georgie!!!! What do you pack as cat food for Georgie? Do you pack canned food or dry food? Cat toys??? How is the litterbox holding up and do you have any suggestions with that issue? I am asking because I am planning on taking my cat with us sailing around essentially the same route as you took through the Caribbean. My family probably won't have the hootspaugh to make the Trans-Atlantic push, but we can probably manage some island hopping.

    • @mattjohnson6716
      @mattjohnson6716 Před 5 lety +1

For some reason HRO stopped buying their pumps from Ecosistems (where mine is from) and started producing their own... I'm sure it was cost, but from what I hear, they aren't that great. We produce 9g/hr with 9 Ah.
Georgie is very accommodating for food. She'll eat whatever we find in a local supermarket- and we haven't found a place that doesn't sell some kind of cat food.
The little box has been great. On the last boat we used a large Rubbermaid container with an entrance hole on the far end of the lid so she had to walk across the lid on her way out. This captured the litter she tracked out of the box so it didn't get all over the boat. This worked well too.

    Matt-
Credit card companies are sometimes paranoid and unreasonable. Before freezing a card, you would think they could call or email a customer with an alert. No, the big companies don't bother with that. You need to get in the habit of calling/contacting the credit card company EVERY TIME you change countries or make a major move, to let them know you are IN TRANSIT and to expect odd charges from odd places along your route. "I will be traveling up the east cost of the US for the next three months" or "I may be anyplace in the Med for the next two months" are good ways to prevent this. A PITA but that's the way many card issuers are.

The water maker you rebuilt had way more than a few O rings and gasket/seals. Good thing you have the skills to service/maintain it.

The seam gets a layer of Sunbrella in a later episode. This combined with the basting tape should make it watertight. The only reason did it that direction is that it was easier to pull the rear panel forward from the outside for alignment.

Hey the PayPal link isn't working. Wanted to cover a couple beers. Im looking at a 56 ' cat and it may need a new or rebuilt water maker what unit do you think would work?

Seals the deal! Pro tip: a little veggie lube goes a long way ⭕ That creamery looks like a place you'd find in Hokkaido. Hahaha. And you have a sewing machine! Btw the manufacturers got the templates, laser cutters and.unlike pretech can work in nano tight tolerances. I know a bit late. I get into those projects all the time. Why didn't I...?

Really, I can't tell the difference between any water once it gets below 300ppm. Women are typically more sensitive to salt and will notice it first.
