- This is a track breakdown of my "X-Stream" Dark Deep Space Ambientvideo. I explain what I was thinking as I composed the track. I try to give an insight into my compositional process - which isn't very complicated.

Thanks for sharing your process, Ian. You're always very helpful with your content!! :)
Thank you very much. I do me best 😊
Thanks for sharing your process for this track, Ian..much appreciated. 😉👍
I'm much like your good self I think, in that I like to play (..as in "have fun") when working on a project and I don't mind saying I'll use presets, too, if they work in the piece in question..I never did see the point of trying to reinvent the wheel, when someone else has already done a great job at it in the first place.
It's a shame so many seem to show distain towards those who use presets..after all, not everyone has the sound design chops to create their own sounds from scratch..and that shouldn't stop them from making music. In the end it's all about what you end up with after using the tools you had at your disposal, and how you expressed your creativity using them. And, if everyone was completely honest, I think we'd find everyone uses presets a lot more than they are willing to admit in public.
All that said, thanks again for this peek behind the curtain..it's encouraged me to keep on tinkering with X-Stream even more. 😊
Hi Dan - thank you 👍
Yes, totally agree. It's useful to know a bit of synthesis if you want to tweak a sound but I'm amazed at channels that show how to create a pluck, for example, as part of track 😲creation
Still, each to their own 😄
I love ambient music, it's the best :D
Yep, it's good 😊👍
Cool vibes, nice tutorial Ian 👏👏👏
Gotta do a catch up on your videos 😀 shame on me
Thank you Chris. They'll likely be there until CZcams takes them down 😊
cool video Ian, ooh the sound at 10:30 :) Q did you just play a b-flat note?
Maybe 😊
Thank you so much for doing this walk-through. I found it to be both validating and informational. Validating in that I tend to be more of a "pantser" when writing. Structure is good but, in my world at least, it usually comes a bit later in the process. For me, everything starts out as playing around with presets, then riffing on something I stumble upon. Informational because it helped me spot a flaw in my approach. I quickly evolve toward too much happening. This I need to work on. Thanks, again, for sharing your approach and insights.
I am so glad you found it useful. I work much like you although I often add things to keep it interesting. But no two pieces follow the exact same process 😊
I liked it
Good 😊
this is amazing
Glad you like it 👍
@@IanWaugh :)
your videos are always an insta-like 👍👍👍
That's very kind and much appreciated, thank you 😊
I am a retired enthusiast who noodles on guitar, bass and synth. I have not downloaded a vst plugin for some time, so I tried X-Stream and I have been having more fun than I've had it awhile. Thanks.
Glad you're enjoying it 👍
interesting to figure out never used halion. usually i'm not itb. there are many pieces like this and they run for 3 hours to 10 hours.
If you can live without HALion, I would... 😄
It sounds good but I can’t get X-Stream on my iOS iPad so I’ve got to make do with my other apps and see where I go from there 😊😊😊😊
Fair enough 👍
Hey Ian!! I'm curious if this is possible to transfer the presets on to the G-ma Moog for a live setting? if so how? still learning the capabilities and potential of this synth. love your videos !!
Hi - Do you mean the Moog Grandmother? XStream is a VST plugin and needs to run on a computer so, alas, no 😢
@@IanWaugh yes grandmother moog, but awe bummers would’ve loved to experiment with this for a live show ):
@@JackJack-mz1me Do you have a Grandmother?
@@IanWaugh I do, my first synth. (:
@@JackJack-mz1me Good choice 👍

Well, to be honest, I don't use Cubase.
Having said that, I'm planning to buy Absolute one day. I do like Steinberg.
However since this is free and Halion Sonic is free, I will download, install and register them one day.
I mean, it's not a one-step proces even thnough it's free.
You should be able to easily follow along regardless of your DAW.
Yeah, the installationand registration is a pain but so are most products these days... 😱
Please stop the crop zooming. Otherwise, great stuff, mate;)
Thank you. I'd be unfeasibly happy just to record a straight-on shot but I'm following best YT editing advice. Apparently 😊
