I think he understands that as much as he would probably love to slate his players,it isn't a smart move as the truth is he may have to work with them again next season as I can't see the board backing the full overhaul that is needed to sort things out,no doubt they will support him to a degree but this isn't a quick fix couple of new faces and were fine type deal,we are literally talking 10+ players that need moving on,luckily some are on loan so that's easy,but the replacements need to be found and new clubs for the flops which won't be easy as nobody sane would take a punt on the majority unless they were free

Totally agree with the summation of what clement says to the media, but behind lcosed doors i suspect the story is different, however he has always spoken about synergy between the fans and team...well treating fans like idiots is not the way to do that however, Clement is quite simply playing a game...he is being strategic, he knows most of these players are done, but he has to get something out of them before the season ends because if he comes out right now and says who he doesnt want, we would be playing more than half the team as reserve players...but i highly suspect most of the ones he is going to get rid of already know they are history... from the get go, PC has weighed them up and anyone who thinks otherwise, has no clue how a real football manager works..yes i agree he should change the defence as its brutal, but we have no width or drive, but this stems also from the lack of leadership and negative attitude of certain players within the team, this has been the same for years..pulling the team down to their level, taking the tempo out of performances, not leading by example and not caring whether we win or lose because they still get a big pay packet...there are players in this team that shouldnt play for us again, but then again, there are the brainwashed who believe certain players houlda been in the hall of fame, that narcissism and selfishness are quality traits to have...our team has been hamstrung by tav and goldson for years and others who have fallen into their clique, like lundstrum...we need a massive clearout and if we cant get rid of them, then they will no longer be starters and we definitely need a REAL captain...Rangers have always prided ourselves on having a real leader or leaders on the field..we have been starved of that for years...time for a big big change...and I believe PC will bring the changes and success..
i am a big believer the Club tells managers and players they CAN'T say certain thing during confereces/interviews.
Up to this point Clement (and previous mangers during their terms) has been very honest about the players and performances.
I think the board/club told him after Ross County "you need to be more positive during interviews". You could see during and after the match how he pissed he was.
There is also the possibility like you say that he is 'protecting the players'. He might have realized after the Ross County match that his plyers' egos and feelings were crushed and they can't play with such. THis of course is a ridiculous way to run the tema and even worse from the players if this is the case.
But I really think the Club 'dictates' what the manager and players can or should say publicly.
But I was also disappointed by Clement's words after the match. It was embarrassing and yeah it took the fans for mugs. 100% agress with you on that.
