I followed your instructions for this project. Changed a few things. Used asphalt shingles and built my run with 2x4s, cedar fencing, and chicken wire. Start to finish, I spent less than $600 on equipment. I used decking screws for everything thinking of longevity. I only have 5 chickens! Building my gravity watering system in a next couple of weeks. Thanks for the great videos. A reminder for newbies like me, when you frame the coop, don't forget to compensate for the thickness of your walls. I forgot, and have 1/2" overhanging ply on all four sides. Doesn't impact the coop, but does expose your experience.Just remember, it's all math.

I’ve learned the hard way to always double it with welded wire fencing or something sturdy like that. Raccoons and foxes have chewed right through. I’ve been told that chicken wire was designed to keep chickens in - not to keep predators out. However, I haven’t had electric fence around mine. Love LOVE the watering cup idea! The water stays so much cleaner without having to clean out waterers twice a day!😁

Joe, there are so many things going on in this video I don't know where to begin, Lol. First off, I was saying before a coop you build yourself is going to be less expensive and probably way more durable. The coops in the stores look like they would fall apart in a strong wind😂. There are a lot of great tips in here, I really enjoyed the part about coop security, it gave me some ideas. Great job as always. This is definitely what chicken coops should aspire to be. 👍

Thanks for checking it out Jim! It's not perfect but definitely one of those long term projects that keeps you revisting and re tweaking to get the most out of it....hahah.... or maybe I just like to tinker ;)

wow.....i have to do a lot to improve my chicken amateur coop... thank you so much for the detailed information about the wood size and the 4x4 recommendations. The solar lights idea is fantastic. I really enjoyed the small details at the doors and how to keep it lifted too. Awesome job!

Thank you so much for taking so good care of your feathered babies ❤🐥🐤🐔. I have four little angels like yours in my house, and they fill my life with joy 😊. Chickens are the best pets someone could wish for, and you are an amazingly talented man. Be blessed!
