The Spanish guitar in the middle is by Yes' Steve Howe. Freddie's vocal power is astonishing, considering his poor health at the time.

@@TheMetalJunkie surprisingly, it was one of the few styles of music that Brian May couldn't do! Howe nailed it...then Brian turned it up a notch. LOVE that part of the song!

@@EchoesDaBeari doubt that brian may couldn‘t do that. due to interviews steve howe was around by chance and because they were friends queen invited him to do a part in innuendo. brian may captured the style quite well on electric guitar afterwards in my opinion. and as already stated here, the spanish part was a collaboration between the two i think.
To think Freddie was only 9 months from death when this was released and still hitting those notes is mind blowing.

GREAT reaction! Here we have it, my #1 Queen song! It incorporated everything that they perfected through their illustrious career! This had the beautiful musicianship, lyrics, vocals (duh!), harmonies (double duh!), a return to some 'progressive' structures (which was a little more common in their early days - check The Prophet's Song for another fine example), and finally, a return to an EPIC, grandiose feel! Yes, would have LOVED to hear this performed in a stadium!
Hearing Freddie's voice here, you'd never know he was deathly ill - his power is still at it's peak! HIGHLY suggest checking The Show Must Go On, the album finisher, to further prove this point. And another beautiful track, a little unconventional, called Bijou - where Brian's guitar takes the role of the verses, and Freddie's vocal does the middle 8 bridge! It's a sorrowful listen, but well worth it!
As other's have mentioned, the Spanish guitar was done by one Steve Howe (from Yes). It was a style of playing that Brian was none too comfortable with (hard to believe, I know!), but they enlisted Howe's VERY capable talents for what was a beautiful interlude in an otherwise dark song! This whole album blew me away! Can't wait for 'R'! Cheers.
Great hearing this masterpiece today! Many of us Queenies see "Innuendo" as the culmination of a trilogy that started with "March of the Black Queen" and having "Bohemian Rhapsody" in the center. It is delicious hearing the three songs have similar "chapters" in the beginning, middle, and end of the Freddie era. Yes! React to Queen and the Queenies and fans will come! Thank you!
You should watch the official video of this song. It won the award for the most innovative/creative video for the year it came out. It is as detailed and goes through as many changes as the song does.

Unfortunately they weren’t able to play this live. By 1986 or 7 Queen stopped touring due to Freddie’s condition. It’s really sad, but it United the band and they released 2.5 albums after Freddie’s diagnosis.

I like the heavy handedness of the music in this song. If there was a category of doom rock, other than the interlude with the Spanish guitar, this would be in that category.
Hi there great reaction but Made in Heaven was the last Album Freddie sang on, he just did all the vocals and the band added the music after he had died

Only mother love and winters tale were written in 91
Although it's admittedly difficult to pigeonhole Queen,...I believe the closest is " progressive pop/rock". I believe they are the Lennon/ McCartney of this era....
I think the songs people now of Queen who are not listening to a lot of theirs songs, their hits so to speak, what's played on the radio, is always the same few songs and never ever shows their acutal ability and greatness of them as aritsts and their awesome songs they have. A lot of people say, after they went into their catalogue, how many songs are actually better then the 'known' ones. Especially from the 70's, such great music from that area. And as others mentionend before, also some quite heavy stuff from that time. I like to recommend "Liar - Live at the Rainbow 1974".
In the early 70's Queen was quite a heavy band. I suggest you take a look at Father to Son live at the Rainbow 1974, also Son and Daughter and Stone Cold Crazy, same concert. Later, Ogre Battle live at the Hammersmith Odeon 1975, and from the Night at the Opera Album, Death on Two Legs.
Absolutely listen to Queen’s debut album, and Queen’s 3rd album. Sheer Heart Attack. It seems like for me I like to listen to this stuff that they would never play on the radio. Actually, this video was on MTV when they were still playing music and right after this, MTV went the way of reality shows. A lot of record companies quit shelling out money to make videos. Some bands even paid to make their own videos. At that time the suits decided that videos didn’t sell albums. And everybody knows that after that corporations started sticking bands with producers that steered the band in the $$ direction. the music was never the same
The last song with Freddy is Mother Love. He died, so Brian use to sing the last verses

Great Reaction! Queen does have a huge discography with many different songs. But if you are a metal junkie you should definitely listen to early Queen they were also metal pioneers. Queen did some of the first power metal, and the first thrash metal song is officially from Queen. Check Stone Cold Crazy - Queen live at the Rainbow 1974, Metallica also later did a cover of this first thrash metal song.
I don’t know what the word for it is, or if there’s even a word for this, but I think Freddie sang this pissed. Like an IDGAF attitude: “I’m dying and I’m mad as hell!! This is MY chance to be heard. You’re going to sit down and listen at what I have to say here before it’s too late!”
He was mad, I don’t care what anybody says otherwise. Freddie may have been a God, but he went through the 5 stages of dying like we all do. Very few people were privy to it but in hindsight, I see this as his mad as hell song. You listen to Motherlove, he’s accepted his fate. Jesus, it kills me to think about the suffering AIDS brought not only him, but all who were unfortunate enough to contract it.
Freddie got diagnosed in 87. He was past acceptance in late 90, when this was recorded. In fact, je wasn't expected to live that long by doctors. His real "good-bye song" is "Was it all worth it" in the miracle-album.
As far as I recall this was only played live once, in 1992 at the Freddie Tribute Concert in Wembley with Robert Plant on vocals. He was an obvious choice as there is a slight resemblance to Zep's 'Kashmir'
Please react to the Video for the song. It really creates a whole new dimension for the lyrics. It was co-written between Freddie and Drummer, Roger Taylor. The political angle of the song is very much Taylor and I feel a way for the band to express their true emotions considering what they were experiencing. The video is a true work of Art and nods to Freddie's artistic skills in graphic Arts. The middle section is simply beautiful with such inspiring lyrics. I became a serious fan of them at the time of release when I was 13 and this truly inspired my own personal artistry. Great track that has become lost over the years, but people are reacting to it more and more, rightly so. By far, one of the bands strongest songs. Great reaction/analysis.

@@bluebell3720The seed of the instrumentals was the result of a jam session between Roger, Brian and John. Freddie walked in and liked it so much, the band decided to develop it into a full song.
Roger took on most of the lyrics
Freddie wrote the “you can be anything you want to be” section (and helped Roger polish up *his* lyrics , which he often did to make it flow smoother for his voice).
Brian took on the guitar break (Spanish/ Classical guitar with Steve Howe, and the electric guitar part of course).
John as always tied it all together with his powerful bass lines and calm demeanor.
In all, it truly was a collaboration of the whole band - and the only time Queen had a guest guitarist play on an album track.🎉🎉

The reason I like this song of all of Queen songs is because it takes me back to their first album. the style, the writing -it has Guitar in it
It’s hard to believe that right after this album came out, he was on his deathbed and weighed close to 100 pounds. He nailed it. Just like a TV that works perfect right before it blows up 😢
IMHO this is a far better song than Bohemian Rhapsody. And Freddie's voice here is pure gold. Astonishing, considering he was already very sick at the time.

Man, amazing reaction, but is a putty that you didn't react to the video too. The video is amazing and really bond with the music.
The music video is great, however, the sound quality is so bad compared to the remastered version you just listened to.
To me it's crucial to listen to the better quality version as it makes such an atmosphere and heaviness that's missing in the music video.
The audio reminds me of those old cd-rom games that I used to play. Especially Freddie’s voice in the flamenco section.

I'm very sorry to disagree with you, but Queen ARE rock, and pop, and Opera, and rockabilly, and Hebrew and French and Japanese and anything else they want to be. RIP Freddie. Viva Queen.
