Killer shit man! Just downloaded all their albums.
It's pretty great 👍
Spooky tooth is Mick Jones of Foreigner first band.
Interesting
When the album 1st came out and I heard this song, it spoke to me! I had an aggression against all kinds of things going on in my life at the time and the only way I'd be able to get em out was listening to this song while I worked out. It allowed me to get my aggression out without harming anything or anyone...still my go to song when I'm pisses off n need to blow off steam!
Best hard rock Song of all time for me. I always send this song to people that want to listen to rock for the first time. They fall in love all the time.
I've always found "Evil Fantasies" messy and annoying. For me, Killing Machine is less remarkable than its two predecessors, Sin After Sin and Stained Class, because I find certain tracks average (the clumsy but not unpleasant "Evening Star" and the slightly syrupy but poignant "Before the Dawn") or downright rubbish ("Take On the World" and "Evil Fantasies" that get on my nerves). To be honest, I'm even less fond of the so-called classic British Steel, which takes the easy way out (but that's another story!).
"The Green Manalishi" is far from bad, but I find its sound a bit different than the rest of the album, but that's not surprising as this cover was recorded shortly after the album's UK release at the instigation of Columbia, who wanted a cover version for the American release in early ‘79. Its live version on the Unleashed in the East album is much better, in my opinion, and what's more, "Burnin’ Up" and “Killing Machine” followed each other on the original UK version, which worked better than to squeeze "The Green Manalishi" in between. Indeed, "Take on the World" isn't good. Actually, I never liked it! (It foreshadows the awful "United" on British Steel😉).
Brooo this is prog power metal pleassseeeee. Ty for reaction ❤️🙏
I wish you react to the Nostradamus album soon, it's their concept album
Peak Priest
This band later turned into Trans Siberian Orchestra believe it or not.
Check out Anesthetize (live in Tilberg video version) by Porcupine Tree next if you haven't yet.
Awesome reaction ❤, thanks! I love this sooo underated band. I have seen them 4x. Great live band. Marius duda is the singer and bass player. The intro was him plucking the bass like a guitar. You should watch it live he extends the intro by a few minutes. My 2 favorite albums are Shrine of New Generation Slaves, and Love, fear, and the Time Machine. Not a bad track on either album.
Killing Machine is one of my favorites BUT it has one particular thing imho: it has the first (of veeeeeery few) HORRIBLE song in the Judas Priest catalog, and that is Take on the World. Jeez that song is ASS and is so out of place compared to the rest of this great album ahahah don't force yourself to like it, it's bad, and I'm the biggest JP fan on earth ahah
Yeah, Take On The World sucks. So does United.
Enjoyed it…quality musicianship…jazzy, bluesy, proggy, some Floyd keyboards!
9:00 You weren't far off with Iron Maiden lol. Not Prowler tho, its The Wicker Man. If you listen to it, you know that i mean ;)
Regarding the lawsuit, there's a documentary called 'Dream Deceivers'...think it's here on YT. Definitely worth watching.
Cool thanks
Raw Deal!
When this album first came out, KK was talking in an interview about how Glenn has a more melodic style and he is more wild & crazy, so of course the lead work in Running Wild was all him. To me, the music on Evil Fantasies always sounded like old-time burlesque or strip-tease music that was intentionally written to feel slow to draw out the anticipation.
Around the time of this album, they were trying to get more radio air-play, so Take On the World was part of that effort (hey, you gotta pay the bills). It always seemed a little out of place to me. Back in the old days, when they played Green Manalishi live, Rob would come out with a bull-whip and crack it over the audience. Great stuff!
10:58 best part of all 3 songs imho
So the next album in chronological order should be Unleashed In The East, if I'm not mistaken. Then British Steel. 🤔👍😊
savage has lot of megadeth vibes
1978! No one had ever heard sounds like this at the time this was released. A track like Exciter just must have blown people's minds. A truly groundbreaking album.
The solo at the end is proto-type KK Downing solos all the way! No one worked the whammy bar like he did in 1974! 🔥🔥🔥
This is literally their first 3 songs so be kind! No one else sounded like this with the two guitar attack at the time. Not metal but you can see the “bones” of it.
Masterful Proto-type Metal….
These are 3 CLASSIC SONGS! LOVE you’re doing this album in full. THIS is PROTO-TYPE METAL. Same as Black Sabbath but a different vein….🤘🤘🔥🔥
I LOVE you’re doing these albums. Remember this is 1975 or so. Trying to find their voice. No One does these besides TRUE METAL HEADS 🤘🤘🤘
Their live album "Unleashed in the East" is a must listen.
This album is absolutely underrated. This is definitely “proto-type” metal as are the next couple of albums. Some songs not so much but others you’re like “I can FEEL this” and if you know later metal you see how it connects. 🔥💯🔥🔥🔥 ‘Never Satisfied’ is a stand out but you’re right these aren’t classics still payed today. But they could resurrect Never Satisfied live and fans would be SATISFIED 🔥🔥🔥
K.K. ' s most flavorful melodic solo.
Les Binks has much to do with that groove you speak of. The syncopation between him and Ian Hill combined with those amazing rhythm guitar parts.
Manalishi 🤪🤘
YES - SIMON PHILLIPS !!!!!!!!
Take on the World gives me United (song) vibes.
United clears
Before the Dawn is a personal song ,Rob I think it's singing about a personal relationship😊
This album kind of dies off at the 2nd side.seems like some short filler songs but the next album I believe is British Steel and it is killer!!!!
I love anthems, singing along, choir songs. So I love Take on the World 😂 United is one of them too ❤
Love Killing Machine, one of my all time fave Priest songs, just so different, a cool groovy song about a hit man with some witty lyrics, quick and to the point but sits well in the late '70's, Running Wild is another, just over 2 minutes, gets right to it, good metal songs don't need to be 5 minutes plus. I heard this album in '79 and it hit me sideways, heard all my older brothers hard rock bands, AC/DC, Nugent, Rush, Zep, all cool bands but this was a different style of hard rock, faster, more distortion, more aggressive, quick tight beats, great album.
Stupid, but so awesome!
You're supposed to sing along Take On The World, live Especial. British steel has another anthem song its cool.
If there was one live album you MUST do it's Unleashed in the East. The production and the guitars are so goddamn heavy and slightly sped up. And the Green Manilishi version is God tier and much better than Hellbent For Leather. For me it's a perfect "live" album.
Great album, but I think JP went down the "let's see how many fans we can get" path. Great production, but there's something missing from this one. Not as good as Stained Class, but what is?
I'm in love, so in love, and I can't stop talking about my Judas Priest Rock Forever! A journey through the catalog like this is the only way to truly understand how they became the metal legends that they are. I agree with you - Evening Star is about finding your way in life - kind of a throwback to the days when sailors navigated by the stars. When I saw them in concert in 1981, there was a bunch of bikers in the crowd screaming for Hell Bent for Leather through the concert - They got their wish when he rolled out on his Harley for the encore. The concussion from the bike's exhaust felt like getting kicked in the chest. (good times...)
Maiden' s Wicker Man totally ripped off Running Wild
A nice group of songs. Loving this trip with you. Priest!!!
Man thank you so much for this! What an epic trip down memory lane. I’ve been a priest fan since I was 13. I’m 54🤘I hope you dig British Steel. It’s got some good jams on it.
Killing Machine was the first Priest album I heard aged 15 and the first thing I did when it was finished was to hit the replay button! Been a die hard fan ever since!
