Shame to TVR for basically abandoning him. If you don't care, simply withdraw, don't humiliate your artists 😬.
Each coin has 2 sides. The artist said to a interview that he had been abandoned and hâd to pay alone for things, while the newspapers here are mocking TVR for their high costs and mocking the artist for the worst performance yet for our country and saying he did not recived monetary help from TVR. There were tensions between TVR and the artist all along and this caused TVR to dont pay for some things and the artist hâd to pay for them. They talk about the fact that Theodor Andrei refused the version of the song and a video proposed by TVR musical experts, then went and made hes own video, on what he paid alone. He refused the wardrobe what was selected to him by the stylists, so he went and bought hes own. He took hes mother and girlfriend with him to the show on what he also hâd to pay alone, tvr paid only for him and tvr employees the transport, hotel and per diem. He took hes girlfriend on stage even if she was not even suposed to be with him at Eurovision. If he says that TVR did not helped him monetary as a romanian i say he must return to the tax funds the 400.000 euros TVR paid, for the biggest failure yet for România at Eurovision. Its simply a lie to say you didnt recived monetary help when at least 80.000 euros went to promoting the artist alone. Shame on tvr for this display, shame on him for telling a lie to the world. 🙄

@@eddy4505 Yeah, Theodor seemed pretty full of himself in interviews and had a know it all attitude, refusing help from experts and thinking his ideas were the best. Look where that got him.
I hope no serious artists would want to represent romania anymore because tvr is absolutely embarrasing every contestant. they went from controlling every aspect of the performance (ahem amnesia 2021) to abandoning the contestant. Its a shame that all they do is give these artists a bad reputation while making a huge drama out of not qualifying while putting in no cash and no effort

The official music video had dancers and the whole act was really dynamic and here he had to perform alone in some pink outfit and be static. This kid deserves another go with decent backing.
TVR really said "if Salvador Sobral won by standing alone and singing, then so can Theodor" 💀
The difference was that Salvador song was more emotional and his performance was the most unique. It was just him on the stage standing there with the background of a forest. And that staging with him there alone on the stage standing suited the song.

If you listen carefully to the musical performance, this boy really has a very good voice, it is clear that he is talented. I watched the country final, it was much more impressive, with dancers. Even tho this was not my favorite song, considering what TVR did to him (TVR are the ones who are supposed to finance the Eurovision performance for Romania, they basically abandoned him and dude had to solve this with very little budget), he did a good job on delivering this as best as he could in that situation. Honestly, what TVR did to him is awful and no artist in the semis deserves that. You have a good voice and I hope you continue to do good work in the future. I wish you the best luck

If you wonder why the staging is worse its because the national romanian television (TVR) cut him off. They never cared about Theo's ideas, made him self finance his music video and changed everything, almost like trying to sabotage him, just to have an illusion of what Romania would want the representation to be. And from this things only got worse. Theo is an amazing artist and never deserved this kind of treatment from TVR and homophobic romanians(although he is not gay).

I mean, if you know anything about music you can tell he's super talented. This was never going to do well in ESC, but I really don't think that this is something to be ashamed of. In a way, entries like this are why I love Eurovision. It's so very different, and I would never ever hear or see something like this if it wasn't for Eurovision. I also hope and think it's a positive thing in the end for this guy, lots of people got to hear how talented he is. I hope that brings opportunities for him!

The staging though.. Not anywhere near Eurovision standards, but that's because he wasn't given any funds - which means no team to help out. It was done on his own (with the help of his friends) after the people that originally had to fund him just dipped out on him

They only let the contestants do the whole job (with no significant contribution), they just want good results, but without any hard work... That's life, we have to learn from the other amazing countries and come back stronger. :D
@honeyboney boney Yeah, the NF staging was awesome, and I think he would've had a chance to qualify, if they didn't change it, but I think the other factor is that it was played half instrumental, unlike the NF, where the "normal" version of the song was played, which I think sounds much better than the instrumental version.
I know Theodor from Bulgarian Music Contest Silver Yantra. He is talanted, creative and very artistic. Romania should be proud of him.
Theodor did a great job, his voice was perfect, had no flaws, his presence on the scene was great and the song was pretty catchy but it looks like it could not overcome the negativity raised from the start by close minded people. I was very disappointed to see that artists that sang bad or were out of tune qualified to the final while Theodor and other countries that were also good didn't...
Eurovision should stop allowing countries to vote only in one semifinal. It is right not to be able to vote for your own contry but I can't really understand why one can't vote for all other countries! Italy couldn't vote Romania in the second semifinal and it was such a shame and a great inequity! It seemed like it would have been possible to do it from their app but it wasn't because in the end it also directed you to the ordinary sms.
I am sorry to say but if next year voting will be the same, I won't even waste my time watching Eurovision any more!

He is only 18 and very talented and is representing your youth and Country very well. I thought he was fabulous. He does NOT represent the country. He represents those 2600(Aproximately) people who voted for him. Romania's population is about 19 million. So how does a extremely small minority represent the country? It does not. The majority of Romanians NEVER heard of him before this, and after his performance NEVER want to hear of him again.

I came here because I have read it was awful, but it's not so terrible. He has a nice voice, pretty stronger. Not the best song of Eurovision, but definitely not one of the worst. To be fair, it was pretty difficult to surpass the last year romanian show, it was incredible. Being spanish, it was easy that it became my favourite Eurovision song that year, even more than my own country song.

Good song, great vocals. A shame his broadcaster let him down with the staging but that considered he made the best out of it.
Can you explain what happened? Something was obviously off, the giant sprint the girl made at the end to smear something in last 15 seconds was strange. And lack of anything else in general.

Originally, after he was selected to represent us, the general opinion about the staging was that it was too much. So, I think they tried to made it more tame but I think it took away from the visual elements regarding the meaning of the song and it just made the visual identity of the performance incoherent…a shame honestly, this had potential.

The live singing was good and thanks Andrei for that. Seems like pre-recorded vocals are now more important in the contest. Also, shame on TVR letting this kid alone to figure for himself entire performance. He did a great job but if the stage was more fulfilled it surely qualified. Also, thanks Romania for singing in the own language.

These days people only get into the final with their dance abilities and great staging. This guy had none just himself and still did amazing. Sitting out with a guitar and amazing vocals - TRUE ARTIST
Seriously tho, who the hell was that evil person to advice him to do this staging and this revamp???!? I mean I'm personally a huge fan of acoustic guitar songs, but this song was rock-n-roll and should've been delivering *power!* There was never anything wrong with its orchestration in the first place. Whoever the person behind the whole idea was, it definitely felt like they were deliberately trying as hard as they could to make him not to qualify.
They managed to do something not many could achieve: a staging physically absolutely empty, yet at the same time too overloaded and complicated with visual symbolism on LEDS probably only Theodor himself could understand the meaning of.
It was a hot mess.
God just help that Romania doesn't draw the wrongest possible conclusion out of this: that they must not qualify because they were singing in Romanian.
As for Theodor himself, he should understand that life and career don't end with Eurovision. With that voice and talent of his he can have a huge career and a bright future ahead of him if he continues to pursue it. When you are young it's easy to get ashamed, to let your confidence be shaken by the result and to have an urge to hide, but that would be a huge mistake.

@@drewcm4617 the romainian TV really do not care about eurovision. They spend the less they can so they can in a way pass the minimum quality check. Once they consider they have done what they consider "enough", they leave the artist on his own. To put you in context, the dancer at the end is his girlfriend, the head press is her sister and the visuals were paid with his money. The romanian broadcast didnt spend a single penny on Eurovision this year. All the expenses were paid by Theodor

It was not the left and the feminists that changed his staging, but the right that pressured the romanian national television to cut his funds because the staging was too perverse and too western like and they didn`t want the staging to affect their extreme right views.

No, It’s not high But Eurovision is just playing with romania. The second semifinal was a total joke because most of the countries came on the stage, sang some boring songs and got to the finals.
Romania is no underrated country and the competition in the second semi-final was weak this year.The truth is the Romanian entry this year is very weak and the singer has no good charisma in his performances.
I feel sorry for him, he's a talent...apart from the poor staging, he puts a lots of passion in what he does, that's what matters. He's only 18, he's going to have a wonderful career 👏🏻

I agree. There were a couple of songs that I really disliked that went through. I do feel that some countries have a lot more support from outside their own nation so there is an unfair bias. For example why do Greeks always vote for Cyprus? I'm British but I don't usually vote for Australia. I wouldn't even vote for the UK if I could. 🤔
