    Secrets to decluttering:
A few months back I shared a video called 53 Things to Declutter From Your Life That you Won’t Miss at all and you guys LOVED it. But, I know there is a big difference between wanting to declutter and actually doing it. So this video is here to help you take that motivation of wanting to have less clutter, and offer some actionable and attainable steps and tricks to actually make it happen. Regular decluttering of your life is something I’ve learned to be very important. Decluttering has been proven to decrease stress and anxiety in people. But, I've learned that is in every day, REAL life, you can actually just tackle small little decluttering tasks weekly, or even daily, that can take less than 5 or 10 minutes and it’s SO much more attainable!

Oh my word, Kallie, I'm an old lady of 71 and very disabled. I'm in a small apartment and having trouble finding a good caregiver to help. I learned sooo much from this video that it gives me hope that I can handle a good deal of this from my scooter. I can't walk, but I now know where I can start. Tytyty God bless. Stay safe and well!

I'm talking from experience as I drive a state over to help my 84 year young 😍 handicap widowed mom, still living in my childhood home. Stay with her for a week every month (take her to appointments, etc., etc.,). Good luck & God bless you on your caregiver journey.

Just curious... Do you find yourselves buying the "as seen on tv" products?
For as long as I can remember, my mom did the same. She would watch soap operas, and clean during commercials. But she also bought everything she could that was advertised. She bought Ivory soap, because that was her shows "sponsor" then when the sponsor became "Irish spring" she'd changed to Irish spring, then when the sponsor changed again, she changed again.
"Ask your doctors is this pharmaceutical is right for you" she'd write down the name, and literally ask her doctor.
After she died, and we were cleaning out her house, there were 100's of "as seen on tv" products all over her house, mostly unopened or unused.
She loved Billy Mays, and mourned his death as if he were a close relative.

    How to declutter:
    1. Break it into smaller steps.
    2. De cluttering like a state or every 2-3 months
    3. Declutter your closet
    4. Reduce paper
    5. It's OK to feel guilty but isn't OK to hold on something because you feel guilty
    6. Aquire less stuff
    7. Let your space work for you and not against you
    8. Think outside the box to storage and solutions
    9. Where is always cluttered you have two options: change a habit or bring something to declutter this place.
    10. Set you alarm with 15 minutes to declutter and clean your home
    11. Declutter all flat surfaces.

Marie here- Repurposing is Great! I'm a List & Notes person 😁. When I receive mail in white large or legal size envelopes I cut out the plain white areas & use that for writing my Lists & Notes. I keep my stash on the kitchen counter next to our landline phone in an upright 3 slot mail organizer I bought at a thrift store for 50¢. At Dollar Tree I buy 200 pack index cards for $1. My H.S. Son uses them for Notes at his home desk when doing homework & in his clear zipper pouch in his 3 Ring binder for note taking in school. I keep a pile in a lunch baggie in my purse & another in my car. When a List or Note is no longer needed I cross ❌ a line through it & only discard when I've used up the blank space of both sides. No more brain overload 🤯 with information. Having it on paper works best for me.

I bought a taller bed frame that I can put 8 totes under for out of season clothing and curtains. I use different size totes in my hall closet to keep things neat, dust free. I live in a very small home. I ditched my bookcase and put up adjustable shelves using the tracks. 2 of the totes under my bed hold files I can easily accesz, the other has different paperwork I need to save. I bought a shredder & shred at least 1x a week. I hung our tv over the tv stand so I have a nice neat surface to put a few pretty things.

At the end of the Day you each Pick up all of your individual stuff and put Them in each box and you put it all back info its place. If you have a very lazy husband. You Pick up hos stuff during the Day, but only put it in the box. At night you put it all on his side of the bed. We practise this at the moment: aften dinner we put on Music, we take turns at picking songs. We then do a “clean as much as you can in 15 minutes” challenge. That way we show our 4 year old that everyone is helping out, and when he is sleeping we don’t have to do it.

Yes - I most certainly am not going by anyone else's standards, about my clothes! I dress classically, so accessory updates are all that's needed. Now the clothes I had in storage, are headliners again! My clothes are my safe spot, I spent enough on them and jewelry, and I never felt the urge to ditch them. He still leaves stuff here and there sometimes - especially his work desk looks a bit messy sometimes- 😅, but he tidies his clothes every day, pijamas, socks etc, puts them in laundry when he needs to, loves to wash the dishes, take out the trash, and loves decluttering his closet more than I do, Lol😅😂. he's not that attached to his things as I am. So moral is: don't give up, lead by example, make ths kids your little helpers, from a young age, the sooner the better, make each member of family be responsible for an area of the house or a specific room/task, and demonstrate permanently how much nicer it feels to have things organized and be able to find them easily when you have to. I love that you talked a little bit about the science concerning clutter and stress levels. I also find it interesting that it's such a subjective thing. Clutter to one isn't clutter to another. And just this morning I decided I needed to tidy up the living room from all the Christmas gifts and boxes etc. that were still lying around. Just doing that very simple task made both the living room and myself feel lighter. Conversely I'm also the type who could never be a true minimalist because having so little and not having some things around is also stress inducing to me. So we each have to find that balance for ourselves and these tips are so helpful to do just that. Thank you for another great video!

If you take off your jacket or shoes or tie or whatever, put it away right away - not on your dresser or nightstand or on the floor. If you do it right away, you save time and energy and avoid clutter. This is true for mail and receipts (which you went over in the video), groceries when you come home, etc.

They are 19&22 now & don't understand how stressful the clutter is for me!!! 😨It's mostly my fault bc I didn't know any of this when they were little so they didn't get to witness it /learn it /or do it with me while they were growing up! My hubby never puts away anything he touches so I'm constantly picking up after him too😝I've slowly been implementing all these great ideas for the past year or so, but def hard when the others in the house are not on board!!Especially when they keep buying too much!!😰I can't get ahead of it bc I go 3 steps forward then feel like they bring me back 10 steps!😨I'm planning a "family meeting" to explain how important it is to me & ask for help & support...❤️

So, I finished an important task that has been on my list forever: Clearing out expired food and doing a basic reorg of the kitchen pantry. It’s not perfect but it’s SO much easier to see everything and know what we have. I love listening to videos like this while cleaning/organizing. It motivates me. Lol
Thanks for the great video and fresh ideas.😁

Clearing the flat surfaces is so important to and reminding others that are in your home that you are trying to achieve this.. there is more but i cant think of it right now. Im having a lot of health problems right now but I know that I can go back to a 15 minute daily declutter Thanks again!

this do one drawer at a time when you have 5 min is truly life changing! i love organizing and purging but i get overwhelmed, busy, burnt out just like everyone else. but this 5 min at a time makes it so i touch an area everyday. yes it’s not done. but here’s the purging tip-it’s never done until you have 50 possessions, which isn’t realistic for 99% of us. great tips!

When I was working full time (now retired) I would set a timer for 15min/rm, including kitchen & bathroom 4rm + kit & bath, then I would then note any remaining time for the area, say I had 5+4+7 unused mins. I would then go back to any room that needed more work & finish up. Because I wanted to spend my days off w/my family instead of doing chores, I would do one major chore each day, laundry, ironing, vacuum & mop, shopping. This way I freed up my days off & we could do more family things. Can't believe I used to try to do all the straightening & chores in two days & I still use the 15min cleanup method. I love your tips & your solutions for breaking chores down so have sent links to some of my nieces since they work so hard. I just tell them I thought X were pretty good ideas. For myself, I LOVED your Command video! I had not realized how versatile they were! Awesome!

Love this video. I started by (from one of your other video) to unload and wash dishes that do not go into the dishwasher each evening before bed. Then the next morning put the dishes in the drainer away. I do not run the dishwasher every nite (only 2 in the house). But when I do, it only takes me 10-15 minutes to unload and load the dishwasher. Like you, I find time to go around and especially put items in recycling or lay item on the table to go upstairs when we go to bed.
My husband has medical disabilities since when my son was 2 months old, now he is 45. He works from home and I am his caregiver so there are days I do too much and Lack energy. I am 72 years young.
While my husband gets ready for bed, some nights I go through one of my dresser drawer - through out not wanted items, pile of items to same the last pile a yard sale.
We have no relatives around our small town where we reside. I fell very profundity of myself when I do et things done.🥰❤️💕🌹

Thank you!!!

Thank you for the great tips! I especially like the flat surface one. I have a kitchen island that we call the “catch-all”. I’m going to take a more conscious few minutes a day to keep it cleared off by putting things back where they actually belong OR giving things to the rightful family member to put away even if I have to put it on a flat surface in their rooms. My kids are all old enough to put their stuff away! Husband included! Lol 😆

Loved this! My husband and I are “pilers” we pile everything on surfaces, it’s so hard to keep things uncluttered. Now that we have a toddler, our house is in constant need of decluttering. I noticed those white pantry like cabinets under the calendar you have, where did you get them or are they built ins?

Hi! I just found you accidentally on CZcams today! You're amazing! Your ideas are great and I NEED to implement them into my life. I don't know what happened to me but in the last couple years I've gotten really, really bad! I'm disabled with chronic pain and herniated discs as well as some other medical conditions but I don't want to be the person who uses that as the excuse for my clutter. I get my mail and toss it into my pile of mail. Then I become overwhelmed when it's time to "clean it out." Basically, the things you touched on are the things I'm guilty of. We don't have bathroom closets or a kitchen closet, etc.
When I had kids my house was spotless! I'm going to try your methods!
    Thank you so much!
