Even today when singing, Steven Tyler at age 74 can still hit those High notes. He is amazing. I remember when this song came out almost 50 years ago.

Eminem sampled 'Dream on' for his track "Sing for the moment".
This was a song Steven Tyler (lead vocals) of Aerosmith wrote on a piano in the 1960's when he was starting out in local bands, with dreams of being a rock star... He had been playing drums and jamming w/ a few Boston acts with no success... He met guitarist Joe Perry and saw him perform in a band w/ bassist Tom Hamilton... he decided around 1970 to form a new band w/ Perry... Hamilton joined on bass, Tyler played drums and sang, and Tyler's friend Ray Tabano came in on 2nd guitar... Joey Kramer (drums) joined soon after, so that Steven Tyler could sing up front. Kramer named the band Aerosmith after a book he read called 'The Arrowsmith'.
Around 1972, they saw an 18 yr old guitarist Brad Whitford perform - they knew he was destined for Aerosmith... Ray Tabano was fired as Whitford joined the band. Aerosmith was soon signed to CBS Records.
With Aerosmith expected to record a debut album in '72, the band did not have enough original songs written... So Steven Tyler brought in songs he had written, prior to forming Aerosmith, to record. 'Dream on' was one of those songs... but Joe Perry hated it, so Brad Whitford did most of the guitars on the track. Initially, 'Dream on' was not a hit in 1973... but in 1975, Aerosmith had a huge hit w/ their 3rd album 'Toys in the attic'. So 'Dream on' was re-released in 1976 and became a huge single.

I have been to many many live concerts. I have seen Aerosmith live…. Front row center so many times. Steven Tyler, the Demon of Screamin. He is the best ever front man. Joe Perry, one of the best lead guitar players ever. Together known as the Toxic Twins for their knock down drag out fights. Aerosmith, born in the 70s then chemically trashed their careers, back in the 80s with Run DMC then took off…. After ditching their record studio in 90s, they produced their own records, and shows. Steven finally kicked the drugs but it was painful. He will be 74 in March and can still kids know ass scream. I suggest…. Dude Look Like a Lady, Love in an Elevator, for his sexy videos, Janie’s Got a Gun for his justice video and I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing for romantic video. He does it all! And live performances…. No one rocks an audience better.

"You got to lose to know how to win" is one of the most true lines I've ever heard. Whenever I want to pursue a goal, I always seek out those who have failed rather than those who have succeeded. You will get much more valuable advice from those who failed because the pain is real. And all the winners you see, from music to business to sports, the real winners have lost many times. You think about Michael Jordan failing to win a championship for all those years... only to win 6 championships after his failures. You think about many millionaire and billionaires, how many times they've gone bankrupt and failed at their endeavors in the past. When you lose or fail, that experience is so valuable and it often gives you direct advice on how to win. Don't give up

I was in high school when this came out. Steven Tyler had a great voice and talent to keep him at the top of the charts. Thx for covering this.

If you've listened to the Run DMC version of "Walk This Way", you should check out the original which was a huge hit in the 70s. Many of us loved the song and thought the Run DMC version was sacrilege.

They sang this after the Boston Marathon Bombing as a memorial. Absolutely stunning performance - Steve Tyler on piano with a youth choir, a must watch for sure

You will love 'Kings and Queens'. Steven Tyler (vocals) and Joe Perry (guitarist) are amazing in this. If you like smooth, this would be for you guys. My favorite song from them, and I grew up listening to them.

This has been my favorite song since the day it came out. Steven said it just came to him while he was plunking around on his piano in 65 or 66+. He's said in an interview it was the easiest song he ever wrote because it just Fell into place. Don't care, It grabbed my soul at 13 and hasn't let go. Hey he's a poet and just don't know it. ;)

My favorite is "I don't want to miss a thing".. but with the VIDEO!!!! Seeing the armegedon movie clips with his daughter just move me Everytime!. But too many great songs by them to list them all. I think "Janie's got a gun" also with video.. would have to be up there.
