I finally did it: 30 days of cold showers. I was curious to see if the hype around them was based on real benefits. There was only one way to find out.
This was a really fun experiment and these are the things that I learned (also I'll show you how you can do it too).

That short line "It´s just a shower" .. Just realised that you can basically apply this mentality to any change you want to do, wanna start jogging? its just 30 minutes of your time walking faster, wanna exercising? its just movement, and maybe this way things like these do not seem that difficult or lacking motivation anymore :D

I did 90 days of cold showers to train my mental toughness and here's what was my experience:
    1. This NEVER gets easy. Every time I got in the shower it stressed me out.
    2. It is much harder to complete a full cold shower when I am tired, stressed, or overall motivation is lower for some reason.
    3. After day 60 I started recognizing the feeling much more "deeply" inside me. That allowed me to observe better my reactions and to train my mind to react in a way that I want, not that it tells me it wants.
    4. I definitely felt a surge in motivation and self-esteem. Daily tedious tasks are much easier to complete. I use this additional awareness to mentally "slap" myself before finding excuses.
    5. Funny thing - I started missing the cold water after the 90 days. Now, every once in a while I still take cold showers. I started loving it... Wasn't expecting that to be honest.

Was inspired to take cold showers for 90 days and now it's become a lifestyle. 3 main benefits i've learned:
    1. I get an instant energy boost and feel great throughout the morning. my body regulates to the temperature of the room and I feel more relaxed.
    2. I expand my comfort zone making obstacles throughout the day easier to overcome. This is essential to self actualizing and fulfilling your potential in life.
    3. I now have a new "friendly" relationship with the cold.. cold outdoor temperatures that used to bother me is now comfortable for me. I see it as a way to continue growing and expanding my comfort zone.
.. there are way more benefits I've heard of such as fat loss, reduced inflammation, more testosterone for men but I haven't done too much research into those. just these 3 benefits alone are enough reason for me to make this a lifestyle.
... I'll prob take Wim Hof's course in the near future. Has anyone on here gone through his course?

I really recommend checking out Wim Hoff’s cold shower techniques / breathing. Not only does it boost your experience and feels amazing, it also makes the cold shower more tolerable. All I do before cold showers is start doing the deep breathing that emulates our natural reaction to the cold. I do that as I imagine the cold on me… so my body basically gets prepared and when I put the shower on it doesn’t shock my system as much. I stay aware of my breathing during the shower and then after the shower I continue the breathing all the way through the shivering and basically breath INTO the feeling and it feels INSANELY GOOD. And after several minutes I’ve breathed through the cold and warm up in no time. It’s gives you an extra little high! 🤙🏼

Good stuff! I’ve been enjoying cold showers for years. Finding comfort/understanding in discomfort is key for growth and longevity. Realizing the benefits greatly out weight the discomfort helps to enhance perspective. A trick I used when first starting, was actually holding my breath. Simply put, not being able to breathe, is far more challenging/critical than the cold. When you reach the extreme point of needing air, your mind shifts focus to this, instead of the cold. The first breath taken after the hold will naturally be a deep one, likely followed by a few more. This will create a deep breathing pattern which will carry you thru the rest of the shower! 👍👍

I also have been doing this for a while now. I have a normal shower then gradually turn the temp down until it's as cold as I can tolerate it for as long as I can tolerate it. I do have to hold my chest and control my breathing but it's very invigorating! It's said to help with depression and even maybe boost your immune system - Highly recommend it!

Quite honestly, it's very unpleasant. BUT... it does help alleviate joint and tendon pain, post workout, if you are older or prone to such issues.

    • @HeritageDrPepper
      @HeritageDrPepper Před 4 lety

What?! Everything I've researched says that cold showers are bad after a workout because your body and skin shouldn't be shocked from your heated body temp to sudden cold. I only do 5 minutes of cooldown stretches after a workout so I wasn't sure if it would be okay to do so to speak. But that's good to know. I'm very prone to such issues.
