Those jeans shorts are an iconic part of Windows95man's costume, he has been doing DJ gigs in them since 2013. His gigs are energetic and fun, his goal is to bring joy to people. He is also an visual artist, radio host, dancer etc. From his introduction in his artist profile: "He is a sweet and pleasant individual, a bit of a shy nerd during the daytime, but when he puts on his uniform - the infamous Windows95 shirt and denim hotpants combo -and gets on the stage in the evenings, he transforms into a superman! “No Rules” is a guideline that Windows95man has followed throughout his whole artistic career and adult life. It’s a simple phrase that commands you to forget how one should dress, look, love, or behave, according to the norms set by society. Don’t let others define who you are - do what you love, and forget the rules!"
The singer is Henri Piispanen, he works also as a voice actor.
The lyrics encourages people to be themselves -
"Call me what you may, see if I care, see me slay.
Is there something wrong with the way I look?
Is there something wrong with who I am?
If I'm not alright, tell me why do I
    Feel so beautiful tonight?
No rules, it's how I live
How I find the wind beneath my wings
It's how I learned to fly"
The jeans egg is a reference to Finnish national epic "Kalevala" in which the first human is born from a bird's egg.

Thanks for posting this... Really helpful to get the context of the artist and visuals from a Finn perspective. It helps understand what's going on. I think they might need to make some changes for an international audience as on first viewing (unlike kariijas song) it's a bit incomprehensible.

In the Finnish mythology Kalevala, the world was born from an egg, so the singer is the bird, if you listen closely you hear eagle screaming. The shorst is the thing he is looking for and then there is the big bang, when he found them, se how the stage change from dark to light. The singer is a professional singer, musician and voice actor, doing cartoon characters in Finnish on tv and movies. Lot's of thaughts behind it.

I can't explain what the producers were thinking but as a Finn I can explain what we were thinking when we voted for this gem. We don't typically vote for the song that has the best chance of winning ESC. We vote for the one that is actually entertaining. I want people to have fun and seeing people laugh teary-eyed at this show has made my day more than once. The song is not a masterpiece (and it's meant to resemble a nostalgic 90s type techno pop) but the performance was just amazing. This is not a joke entry. These guys have made a huge effort. Maybe the point behind the egg and the shorts won't be immediately obvious to other Europeans but hey, I know this will bring so much happiness to so many people and I'm really proud we chose this.

They're artists and they said that they purposefully made a piece of art - it can be seen as humor, but it is always for the viewer to decide. But they're not doing their art as a joke. If it was, it wouldn't have won in Finland, they said. I think it is a hilarious celebration of the 90's, and the performance has so many hidden things and meanings in it, I'm positively surprised you could catch many of them watching for the first time. It just spreads the message of joy and authenticity, and the innocence of having pure fun, like many of us have experienced in the 90s. It's a catchy eurodance song as well.

  • @Leena79
    @Leena79 Před 2 měsíci +44

This performance is almost entirely the vision of Windows95man (or artist Teemu Keisteri) brought to life on stage. He's the one in the background with the Windows95 shirt. He is a dj and a visual artist, and this is his first single, but the character of Windows95man is something he has performed as for years. Henri Piispanen, who is doing the main vocals, is a voice actor and singer, who wasn't initially supposed to go on stage, but ended up there because he sang on the demo. But visually, this is mostly Windows95man 's idea, and an homage to 1990s.
The message of the lyrics is simply, that you are free be yourself, love who you love, regardless of rules.
The jeans egg is a reference to an origin story from Finnish mythology, where the world is born from an egg of a bird. In the case of Windows95man, he is born from a jeans egg, Henri is representing the bird (his jacket is like a coat of feathers). Windows95man isn't, however, complete without his jeans shorts, but after he gets them, he becomes a superman.
The song is pure joy, but at the same time, a piece of art. And it got a huge number of tele votes and won the Finnish UMK by a landslide despite being the last after jury votes.

Had a great laugh watching your reaction to all the madness going on! I gotta say I was surprised when I saw this was the winner for Finland, and it was not my favorite. That said, I agree that they will probably score quite the televote points, perhaps ending up like Moldova's Trenulețul in 2022, while getting few jury points (they actually came last with the international juries, but the televote points weigh heavily enough to nullify that gap)
As for what I get from the song, they like to be being themselves and don't want others to judge them for it. The guy has been a dj with the Windows95 shirt and the short jeans for 11 years now.

I think this is slightly chaotic and somewhat extreme. So i was like... Again? 😂😂But I think everything was thought really well and precisely. The camera angles are brilliant because it gives a sort of illusion. yes this is fun but there is a deeper meaning behind the lyrics, it's about doing what you want, not whatever you want Imo. But it's about going over your limits and kind of owning about the kind of person you are. "It's how i life my life" It relates to us younger generations especially now because we are constantly following trends and being influenced by the society instead of doing our own stuff which could be judged if it's not popular. Not really caring about the opinions of the society as a whole, being yourself, doing your own thing is more important than following the influence of others. This is how i interpret it. Windows95man isn't a singer so I forgive him for kind of "talking" in the beginning. Henri piispanen is good vocally. Now about the performance The stage has an overall thought out theme, which is about the mythology that the world was born from an egg, the singer is the bird and the dj is probably the human. 😂. the iconic moment will be the flying shorts and the fireworks, it's a performance to remember that's all I'll end it with.
In terms of the story that is being present on stage I get that it's chaotic, if they would have stuck to one theme or one thing it would have made more sense but that could mean it would be more restrictive. Nevertheless, it's funny, entertaining, really does hit the element of 90s electro music, i'm not an expert but it's a vibe. As for the shorts you may find it really weird, why are there shorts coming down? There's so much going on but i think it's better this way cause he entertains them since he isn't a singer and Henri sings it vocally. Now the shorts do represent meaning, they're obviously clothes, but he found his shorts haha will be such an iconic eurovision moment, people will be buzzing and talking about it, Plus i mean, Eurovision doesn't need to be about winning with a serious song.
it gives me sunstroke project and olia tira- runaway 2010 Eurovision vibes. the Vocals were okay but it's the performance that will eventually be a big contributer, ofc the competition is a lot tougher but it's a good entertaining performance either way.

Hey and thanks for your reaction! You were remembering Finland’s last year entry ChaChaCha by Käärijä! And now Finland brings this! 🎊
it’s fun entry with deeper meaning lyrics:
Is there something wrong with the way I look?
Is there something wrong with who I am?
If I'm not alright, tell me why do I
    Feel so beautiful tonight?
No rules! It's how I live
How I find the wind beneath my wings,
It's how I learn to fly!
It’s an anthem for being who you are 🌈🎉🎊 And at the same time it’s a birth story🦅🥚
I like the message and how it combines the Finnish mythodology Kalevala where the world is created from the goldeneye’s’ egg. (Its denim as Windows95man’s outfit consist on jeans shorts and W95 t-shirt since 2013!)
In the stage performance the singer Henri represents the bird (see the similarity of the movements the clothing) and the Windows95man is born (as all humans) naked. The stage coordinator tries in the middle of the song give the rules to our hero but he throws those in the air. He wants to be free and understand who he is despite what the others want him to be! He is looking for his jeans shorts and finally they descent from the heaven (mythodology) and our guy becomes Windows95man and starts the party with cheerful fireworks!💥
DJ Windows95man have been dj:ing now 11 years already and he is also a visual artist and using Windows95man outfit since over a decade. Henri Piispanen is professional singer and voice actor. They met while doing this project and liked each other’s and decided to participate in ESC.

There are three or four stories going on at the same time. Windows95Man has worked as a DJ, and the denim shorts are part of his character. You can see the stage show as the tale how he was born (from a denim egg, laid by the denim-feathered bird) and got his shorts from the heaven. Then there is symbols from Finnish national epic, where the world and whole universe were born when an egg shattered. The boots of Henri, who does the actual singing, are modelled from traditional Finnish footware virsut. Then there is the running joke, the newly born W95M is born without trousers, and doesn't know that he should wear them, so the cameramen and everybody on stage do their best to frantically block the view to his crotch. And last but not least, there is the story of the lyrics, which could be summarised "be yourself and don't care what others think". From the lyrics: "Call me what you may, see if I care, see me slay
Is there something wrong with the way I look?
Is there something wrong with who I am?
If I'm not alright, tell me why do I
    Feel so beautiful tonight?"

I think that it is meant to be kind of cliche but in a funny way. Like the whole Eurovision Song Contest is one huge show. But at least this makes me smile 🙂😄😁

Hi Georgina! I love your reactions, and I don't know what to think about Finland's song either, but I'll vote for them because my husband is Finnish - what to do, such a life ;) Greetings from Poland (I'd like to live somewhere else too, because of the rain and darkness at 5 p.m., but if you're going to move, I wouldn't recommend either Poland or Finland in terms of weather ;))

I was a bit chocked that windows95man won over Sara Siipola… her song was very emotional with meaningful lyrics. I guess the world needs some silliness and humor right now.
Please comment on Sara Siipola’s song:

Eurovision without something like this wouldn't be Eurovision. Will be ignored by the juries but collect points from the public. Anyway, it is entertaining as hell.

Hehe. It's like his name. It is the old logo for windows 95. You know. The operating system for a majority of all computers nowadays. I think it was one of the first operating systems they created.

It's not 80's, it's the 90's music. I think it's statement for last years Eurovision results. Since we anyway don't win, we can throw away the rules and just have fun (and maybe steal the party like last year). Try to count how many "rules" they break and at the same time how many things they parody in three minutes. The song is Hot Shots! for the Eurovision in three minutes.
And was probably created in the sauna after a few beers.

I probably take it wrong, but as for me, it is all about thinking out of the box. Yeah, that crazy mix of textures, talking and singing, nudity and cloths... Separately, is may have no meaning, but together it is one big rule of positive vibe and such a philosophy of living.

Yeah, I am not so sure this will be successful because it's not going to be the only silly song that will get votes. Estonia's song, Ireland's song, and Baby Lasagna's song for Croatia, assuming that wins, will get a lot of the votes that would have gone to Finland, otherwise. It will have no trouble qualifying I imagine, but I do think it could easily not hit the top 10 because of its direct competition.

I hated this initially, but it's a good story from the '90s. Windows95man hatches out of a denim egg like a little bird, finding his little flappy wings. Baby birds know no rules, they just try to learn to fly. He finally finds his shorts and oh joy, a pyro show ensues. The lyrics are awful, but they were even worse in the 90s.

  • @Heikki_Virtanen

im not sure how it translates to foreign people but the jeans egg is in Finnish farkkumuna. It's a metaphor for private part bulge while wearing tight jeans. The word egg and cock are both muna in Finnish.
