Look, getting caught in one of those traps could have happened to anyone. You set it up, look at the sign that says 'put your finger in here', and you think you can just pull it right out. Next thing you know, your finger is stuck, and you are screaming for your mom to help get your finger out. Lucky are us whose mothers were in earshot. To the rest, I'll pour one out.
@MagzTV: I've figured out how to knock out an CW SSBN with one torpedo: Ram the conning tower from above. Next suggested challenge: Norwegian Kobben class in 1984.
@5:40 Ahh, the classic Xia-class running on the surface moment. I had it on my first vanilla play through of the SCS and ended up I.Ding it using the radar because of the ambient noise...

The Typhoon class Russian Ballistic Missile Sub is actually made with 2 tubes side by side which is why it looks so big IRL.
Japanese did the same thing with their I 400 sub

Yup, the ballistic missile launchers sit between the two pressure hulls, there is a nice image on Wikipedia that shows the internal layout.

Great Anti-Xia run! I have to say, that was good RNG as from my own experience usually it's 2 akulas with some Vic 3s and the Xia and Akulas take at least 2 shots each! Thanks for your Cood Waters vieeos, and i look forward to your next gaming sessions 😊
The Xia could have suffered a casualty and been dealing with an issue on board such as a fire or radiation leak when you found it, could also explain the late notice given to your torpedoes and the rather panicked dive afterwards if the entire crew wasn't on station or were focussing on something else at the time.
Enjoyed the campaign, thanks Magz! I'd love to see some Rule the Waves content, which is cerebral like Cold Waters, but I imagine that's an unpleasant thing to play with the vision difficulties.

In fairness, I think anyone would have had trouble doing evasive manoeuvres in a sub that big in water that shallow... if the total depth was more than the Xia's hull length, it wasn't by much.
While im from the usa i will say the Astutes and Vangaurds are actually rather pleasing to the eye to me.

Congratulations Commander Jarse and all the brave seamen who sailed upon HMAS Rankin on a job well done, somehow single handedly sinking most of the PLAN, really not at all sure what the rest of the Australian Navy, nevermind the Japanese, Korean and American navies were doing. Almost as if they weren't even there, in all honesty. Either way, time for tea and medals!
You could try play as a typhoon ballistic sub or an Ohio class that would be fun since their harder to move @magzTV

My First thought was the Xia may Have Suffered Previous damage from an ASW fleet [Somehow]
No, estimates are that the Xia is 8K tons submerged. That is similar to (probably less than) the Akula & Virginia subs. US & RU missile subs (Delta IV & Ohio) displace 18K - 19K tons submerged for comparison. The really big girl, the Typhoon, displaced 48K tons submerged. IMHO, Magz was assuming because the Xia looks similar to a Delta III/IV, that she was around the same size. FYI, for CW, the amount of damage a vessel can take is calculated from the tonnage.

The Xia looks like a Han that has had a missile compartment spliced into the hull, much like the first generation of US Navy missile boats were stretched Skipjacks.
That's because it is. Russia did the same thing, etc. Seems to be the quickest/cheapest way to make a missile boat.
Vanguard-class looks better than the Typhoon , but im bais as hell
Really enjoyed this series. I would only ask you set the UI a little bigger so we can follow along with what you see. Also, you are spot on about the Typhoons. Dead sexxy. They had a Sauna AND a pool! Hopefully they snuck some ladies aboard…bad mental images otherwise. 😂

Considering a single ship sunk 130 of theirs, I wonder why didn't they surrender much faster...
I'm getting a weird issue using the Collins class. When evading a torpedo, I can form a knuckle like in other subs, but it doesn't form behind the submarine at the rudders, it forms randomly some distance away from the sub. You can't even see the knuckle usually, the only sign it has formed is the flashing S symbol on the tactical map. Anyone else seen this happen? 🤔

It's funny, I enjoy watching people play this game more than playing it myself as I just don't really enjoy it much due to the arcade focus and due to the issue that the devs dropped this one too soon (AI units STILL hitting the bottom so often is really not screaming quality game design here).
Sooner or later it comes down to the ever same, boring torpedo-dodging arcade mini-game where the message of the day, in nuclear subs at least, is always:
"Knuckle formed!"
"Knuckle formed!"
"Knuckle formed!"
"Knuckle formed!"
Ugh...
But this was fun to watch!
Still, can't wait for Modern Naval Warfare.
Edit: And you are right, the Xia is one ugly motherfucker.
Lets be honest, the simple fact that its a ballistic missile sub is enough to justify a doubletap, dont be the guy that didnt confirm the kill on something that can launch nukes
The Xia is only 8K tons. It's smaller than a Seawolf (10K tons), Ohio (19K tons), or Delta IV (18K tons). Hell, the relatively small Collins Magz was using is 3.4K tons. Magz was assuming it was much larger than it is.
I think that it would be fair for russian and chinese sub captains should just assume that and adcap or similar is in range and aimed at them.

@magztv how does one perform a knuckle? i just started playing this and i can't get it to work. even on the easy setting, it seems like with the dot mod the game has gotten harder, and that is just on the single missions.
Now the issue is all those nuclear reactors sitting on the bottom of the South China Sea going to make the fishes glow in the dark...

You could call the Xia's actions an attempt to prevent the sub from being captured. Not to be racist, but that is a very Asian thing to do.

Considering the real 092 made only 1 voyage ever, and has slept in port ever since, it's probably the least of her problems in reality. She is also too noisy to use for her intended purpose.
