I wonder if those RAN submariners who graduated in the States last week play this, if not I hope they watch this channel.
Aren't they actually the qualified people for his? How this sim would help at all? The people who was in service makes this kind of games.
They have a real training simulator in Perth.
I would think the game helps to visualize things that they cant see irl. And builds situacional awareness, especialy in a sub where you dont see anything. Iam a pilot and playing MSFS helped my SA a lot, like when you go to 3rd person and check if reference points are where you think they are. Besides they can see the basic dynamics of a sub fight, something you cant realy picture outside a videogame.
I'm not sure how an array of toads can detect submarines, but it seems to help!

SSKs are underrated. Modern batteries mean they can run a long while and they are also absolutely whisper silent. Only downside is a limited amount of torps in storage, but resupply should be counteracted by being able to have a fleet of a lot more of them.
There are many more downsides than that. Don’t get me wrong, diesel subs are great for specific mission sets, but nuclear propulsion subs are vastly superior -
They have no need to surface whatsoever, whether to charge or replenish air. Thus being stealthier overall, and having much greater range. Nuclear reactors also provide alot more power, meaning SSNs are faster.
While the Collins are older boats the 'nukes can stay down indefinitely' isn't so big a gap as it use to. Modern air independent propulsion be it a sterling cycle or a fuel cell means most ssk built since about 2000 or so can actually stay submerged for their entire patrol.
AIP systems still only extend the time submerged from a few days to a couple weeks - sounds like a lot, but that’s still bad for long range patrols. AIP systems also provide very little power
Diesel-electrics are good for nations that don’t require force projection.

So if the enemy has replenishment fleets and you get to sink them, why do you have to head all the way to Guam? why haven't the Modder's added NATO replenishment fleets you could use and even get defense missions for :)
