I guess someone nominated you for an Oscar.... I'll see myself out now....
LOL fantastic!
Bah da dah cymbal crash
im dying
You motherf...
*Slowly claps in resignation*
lol that mission summary at the end of the second engagement: "Ok boomer, continue engagement."
Lol :P
Couple things I've picked up from other comments, but worth highlighting.
1) the Shkval's indicated range isn't the actual range, it's the range at which it reaches full speed. Actual range is closer to 10km.
2) the Shkval in-game is only able to track surface ships, not submarines.
3) the USET-80 has multiple modes of operation. When you set it to run shallow (the upward arrow), it only tracks surface ships and ignores submarines. You've missed a number of torpedo shots over several episodes this way.
As we're giving advice... One thing that is annoying me immensely is your poor use of the towed array. If you are NOSE to target, your towed array cannot see the enemy. They work especially well when at 90 degrees because each sensor in the array will have a different solution to target and you get a composite solution very quickly.
Also MOST if not ALL NATO subs, including diesel electrics don't have baffles because they use towed arrays.
Finally an OSCAR is not an SSN - it is an SSGN, it's mission is anti-surface, not anti-sub. It's SOP is to try to disengage from other subs if possible. It's anti-sub torpedeos are self-defence.
Daniel Ross,
Sure I could have disengaged but there are a few reasons I did not.
1. In Cold Waters if you disengage from an enemy target it stays on the campaign map and will continue to intercept you. It can get annoying.
2. That would make for a boring video. :P
As for the Towed Array. I don't believe that the towed array is this complex in Cold Waters. In Dangerous Waters it is and when playing that Sim I do what you are saying. However I have noticed no difference in CW and there is nothing in the manual supporting that it is that complex. I could be wrong though.
As for "Also MOST if not ALL NATO subs, including diesel electrics don't have baffles because they use towed arrays."
Sure they may all have Towed Arrays but that does not mean they are using them. If you look at the sensors tab you will see many of them are not using their towed as they may be going too fast or too close to the ice.
@@Wolfpack345 Fair enough.. I'm going by what happens IRL... Mind you, in IRL a sub can sprint with it's array out. Do you have to wait for the array to straighten out after a turn in Cold Waters?
And talking about the ice, that's probably why the second sub was diving deep, to get away from the noise.
@@danielross7983 Yeah, the towed array is not really modeled that well. I don't think you have to wait for it to straighten out. It is just treated as a really good sensor with none of the befits (or handicaps) of having it deployed behind the submarine. It would be cool to have the Towed array be modeled to such a high fidelity, but I suppose we have Dangerous Waters for that. (Something I want to do on the channel)
isn't the Shkval an unguided torpedo?
Oscar aka the Kirov Class that can submerge and surface again :D
@Matthew Caughey mhm. At least in the epic mod in this timeframe it's the third or fourth quietest boat in the russian navy.
Only the Kilo, Akula and Sierra(? the one single tech demonstrator ship with the bought and stolen western tech) are quieter.
I think it's very capable. At least I use it a lot in my Cold Waters games. And it's one of the few subs with towed arrays in the 80s russian campaigns.
@Matthew Caughey hah nice one!
Yeah the Alfa is something else.
It reminds me if the aggressive torpedo boat drivers or destroyer in the fist halve of the 20th century
If only this game had a PvE game mode where you could cooperate missions with other players vs AI. Would be sick with the Epicmod, so much neat ideas already!
That would be cool
You can mark on the map, it is LShift+click
I never knew this! Thanks!
That is HUGELY useful. No more forgetting last known positions!
@@kotori87gaming89 I'll certainly be putting it to use! :D
WHY DON'T THEY TELL YOU!?!
It's crazy how large that submarine actually is. The Oscar class is about the same length as the Titanic
Pretty sure even the largest submarine is about 80 meters short of the titanic xd
@@Partyaap050 even still, for a submarine that's very big
In the Oscar class is not the biggest class of submarine there the f typhoon class
K 329 Belgorod is pretty long
29:41 Awww... look at those enemy torpedoes go... like a little pod of happy dolphins (with explosives packed inside them). 🐬
Wolf quickly learns that NATOs anti submarine warplan essentially consisted of making sure the Russians could not get through the GIUK gap applies to in game as well
The Shkval's actually have a lot more range then they indicate. I was bummed too at the short range but said screw it and fired it anyway. Managed to sink a Spruance from around 7 klicks away
Can't wait to see the duel against the carrier group!
Should be an interesting one!
This game is very suspenseful your adrenaline glands must be empty by now
I feel nothing.
The primary intended use of Shkval require nuclear charge. It's a special torpedo for submarine duel situation in a nuclear World War 3. Super-fast but unguided nuke-tipped Shkval can reach the target very fast. Enemy sub don't have time to run far. And with the nuclear charge precision is not needed. Enemy regular torpedoes require much more time to reach the target.
Quick dive in french submarine terms: "Oh merde, the Russians found us. Run!"
Great video! I just have a couple possible tips, the supercavitation torps have a Range far greater than shown, it is just the range when they start going full speed. And for the surfaced Skipjack, why not throwing a Granit at it, that would have probably worked nicely (if not a bit overkill)
Given he ran out of asw torps, i don’t think it’s that overkill. Besides, he had spares!
Nice video as always, best wishes from Spain Wolfpack!
Don't worry Wolfpack, most of humanity agrees and is hard at work trying to melt that pesky polar ice!
Won't happen though.
@@ripp846 Already is.
Problem: you have to contend with ASW ships and helicopters glomping you directly
@@Kevin-hx2ky Igla, man.
@@_tyrannus All i'm saying is ice can help you. Fighting 3 SSNs is still better than fighting them AND a surface fleet with choppers
Yeah! finally, the next episode of Cold Waters with Wolfpack!!!
42:26 it's really funny that Skipjack had her nose sticking out of water, like "I'm still here, bitch! Don't you dare to run away from me!" but Wolf be like "well yeah I don't think there's much you can do about me anyway."
When you love a weapon system, enemy hates it. When you hate your weapon system, enemy loves it
Great job #Wolfpack345 with sinking the submarine. I sank 2 British merchant ships and a warship today with SH5
Nice!
you set your trop to underwater target while opponent is surfacing. I think that’s the reason why it did not pick it up
Last torp on the skipjack was set for shallow sub search. Since skipjack surfaced you should set your last torp for ship, active sonar. Passive sonar is wake homing and should be active to cross the path of the surfaced vessel to pick up the wake.
Against that surfaced Skipjack, a deck gun would have been handy. 😂
Is it possible to play with the Yasen-M class Russian submarines in any way, shape or form?
With mods maybe?
Yep. It's in the epic mod too.
Both the Yansen and Yansen M are playable in the russian 2002 campaigns.
Oh the Rubis class which was the French main SSN until the newer Barracuda class replaced it in the mid 2000's
When you are a boomer or missile carrier sub you never go active unless you are like outnumbered 3 to 1 and they are surrounding you and you are at full or flank speed to start dodging their torps and weapons deployed against you. Remember quiet as the grave is your best defense, unlike a SSN where you can turn the tables and so start hunting them if the opportunity arises but if there is a window you take it and quietly slip pass when you are a SSBN or SSGN
The newer submarines are actually Suffren-class, which was designed in the Barracuda program alongside the Attack-class submarines that were built for Australia. Also of note is that Rubis were still confirmed as active just last year, and 5 years ago one of them managed to sneak upon and mock-sink a US carrier group in an exercice, too! Amazing little boats.
My brother is actually in service in the Amethyst, one of the six Rubis class SSN, they're still waiting on the new Barracuda class. The Suffren just did the weapon testing so I'd say there's still a couple of years to wait for the rubis class to be replaced.
@@yoannsaouzanet325 I thought Suffren was the class and Barracuda just the program's name which it came out of. I can't imagine how amazing the Suffren will be after such a long development phase, I hope to live old enough to read about it once some degree of information gets declassified. If the older Rubis/Améthyste-class managed to sneak upon a US carrier group, I can only imagine that its successor will be quite the nasty opponent to whoever dares challenge it.
@@_tyrannus you must be right about barracuda being the program name. I just keep mixing them up. Suffren is the first submarine of this class, which makes sense then to call it the Suffren class.
@@yoannsaouzanet325 Don't worry, we are champions at creating confusing class and program names for the sake of making good gem themed puns. :) Améthyste stands for AMÉlioration Tactique HYdrodynamique Silence et Écoute. As the name indicates (or does it?) it was a modernization program for the operational fleet of Rubis-class subs, upgrading them to the new standard that the Améthyste, then the lastest Rubis-class sub, was built to.
I like to think that the Skipjack was Wolf in the USS Scamp.
There are times when it appears you aquired the ire of NATO. Nice hunting.
Thanks!
3 Stallions was a bit overkill...... launches a 4th :P Great episode!
Lol Thanks!
Oh man, it's time to hunt some carriers.
SO now that i finally have seen you get sunk in the last episode I never want to see it again!!! hahaha once was enough! Keep up the good work skipper!
I love the fact that they use Dangerous Waters music and sounds.
At least they didn't give you the Kursk
Please do a typhoon class lets play
It could be fun for sure!
@@Wolfpack345 Thank you
Playing SSBNs is boring as hell lol
Playing SSBNs is really boring, but maybe a modded SSGN version of the typhoon...
Mildly disappointed that you didn't get to use the Shkval, I am very curious to see that crazy design in a game. Still a great episode as always, I really don't mind the extra duration! I'll be over here bingeing all your SH3 content. :)
I'll use it soon enough:)
@@Wolfpack345 Good hunting!
Mistakes are good. And that Skipjack going under the ice slowly sinking to it's probable doom... Metal as fuck.
"that was an accident" - glad you are not commanding a boomer Sir! ;)
And in the grains section you can see cereal, oatmeal, and a Oscar Class Submarine.
Yo, Wolfpack345, your submarine is *EEEEXTRAA THIIIICCC*
New to your channel and very impressed with the game play. Keep up the good work 👍
She's a big 'un! 🍞
Haha she sure is!
Im pretty sure that last torpedo was set to passive instead of active search, could be wrong
Hello comrades! Watiching from Brazil!!!
Is there a way to make use of the P-700's insane range? the game close range instance system screws it since you should be able to fire those at like 400 km away well outside the range of any possible counterfire. Then it would turn into a DCS mission whereas F-14s would scramble to intercept the missiles before they get close, if they fail then it's up to countermeasures and CIWS systems ^^
Let's not Kursk,yeah?
They call the Oscar the legendary lofe
You had Shkvals! You could have used those to sink the skipjack
Stallions are great but all your nato sub encounters are under ice.
Yeah it is unfortunate.
I just recently came across your channel. Gotta say I love the games your playing. I wanna get into pc games. What would be a good starter pc?
USETs have surface/submerged settings? Also should have hit the damaged Skipjack with a Schkval
This makes Tuesday my favorite day tough I watched it on a Wednesday
Well thanks for watching!
@@Wolfpack345 I enjoy quality content 😁
Fuck yeah, was waiting for this
I loved your videos because the mistakes. Hahahaha... 😂
As ofhers mentioned, the Skipjack was surfaced, could easily have gone a cruise missile.
Yeah that would have been a good way to finish her off.
Sh-K-val not Shi-ee-val. ;)
Sounds like he says french for "horse" which is "cheval". Fitting given that he faces one of our submarines!
Love your style.
Can you try increasing the size of the data displays? Hard to see on the iPad.
I do believe you can minimize 3 of the 5 displays to clear screen space too. In v2.23
Thanks
How did that torpedo not destroy the Skipjack's screw??
Was the sub in the 3rd mission of MW3 an Oscar class because those duel propellers remind me of it
Indeed it is. The submarine in "Hunter Killer" is an Oscar II class named Olga (according to the print on her hull)
I thought soviet subs could come up through the ice
You bet! VERY interesting.
Thanks!
Good one watched it twice in case I missed something
i rly wanted to buy this game, tho it kinda looks more like 2d game with 3d extras for visiauls.
Do it have an Typhoon class in this mod ?
Good vid WP345
I have 2 1:700 scale Oscar II class boats and I want to buy more!
Yes, CHONKY!! CHONKY!!!!
I always go to the sub sim, but I never know what mod to download.

Where did you get the mods?
So how do you get all the different subs?

Where do u download this mod ?

Too bad that we can;t mod the models :(
It really does shipwreck
What mod do you use for the russian voices?
Epic Mod includes Russian Voices.
@@Wolfpack345 I installed the latest version and didn't had the Russian voices, am I missing something?
Skipjack+Shkval?
The Alfa Sub is a classic, but its nice to see an Oscar Sub :) but I have to say the Oscar front is ugly, that shape is ..urghh ^^
it's "shKval" not shaval, k is important
Thanks for the tip.
I'm a bit weirded out with the short range - I thought they had nuclear warheads and no sensor, they just go boom at the aim point? 2 is probably enough. I'd have tried a Granit potshot at the Permit while she was charging her air.
@@PATTHECATMCD its pre-activation range, the real one is about 10 km after SRB kicks in. Also it in fact has a passive homing in the game, it simulates inertial navigation system.
Unlike IRL its surface running only
@@stallfighter Supercavitating torpedoes have extremely limited operational depth because of water pressure - if it goes too deep it cannot maintain the gas bubble and turns into very loud dud.
Since information about Shkval is closely guarded if you want to know more about supercavitating weapons it is easier to find info about german Barracuda prototype or few english articles about US prototypes.

A loaf of bread and a sub!?
Damn commies are stealin our submarine sandwiches!
hey. I'm kind of early.
Is there anything more boring?
so much cheating by looking at the ice using 3D 3rd person view. sad
The game is literally limited to a 3D 3rd person view. Also, Submarines had High Frequency sonar and ways to tell where ice is.
@@Wolfpack345 then game is not that good, it should show in 3d view only things you know about - that would be cool
It tries to do that. You can only see enemy contacts in the 3d world if you have a 100% solution on them. Which I did at the time.
Of course environmental things such as ice don't follow these rules.
@@Wolfpack345 I see, thanks. Mayme in future they update it for env too if it's so important
