A friend lives near Elton’s house and his son (aged around 13 or 14) attended a local school some years ago now. The pupils were given assignments to carry out for the school newspaper and James was tasked with getting an interview with a famous person. He wrote to Elton requesting an interview and to the family’s amazement he rang the house to arrange the interview. James and his Mother went to Elton’s house and he gave a wonderful interview ...... I read it ..... with no time constraints. I do like the fact that he has time for people, as demonstrated by talking to the college students here.

He always gives the best interviews. He is a repository of rock and roll history, and it's obvious the way he speaks that he's very intelligent. His remarks at the beginning were confidently delivered and thoughtful, as were his answers to the questions. Well done, EJ, from a fan of 45 years.

Never neglect the fact that he is more than just an ubersuccessful commercial performer and prolific composer. His gift of notes and tunes and rhythms is what won over the world. Yet on top of all of that, he happens to be one of the finer nonclassical pianists. It's so understated in his performance (compared to the visuals and vocals) that many don't recognize his great playing skills. You piano players already know this about him. And he does that WHILE SINGING - different notes than he's playing, with even different rhythms, if you can even comprehend that. Kids, don't try that at home. EJ==master.

He dropped out of the academy. He pursued a career. He held no animosity towards the academy at all. It was just an opportunity to perform that took him away from them.
So many times dropouts are dismissed as quitters and traitors of sorts. But Elton was still a product of that academy and saw great success in composition and performance because of them.
Now instead of just being a classical conservatory, they teach many more forms of music. Probably in no small part due to successes like Elton John.

You are so talented---and a child prodigy--I wish your childhood would have been more joyful, but experiences we have make us who we are. I guess you had to go through it for a reason. As for people criticizing you about the Michael Jackson stuff in your book-don't sweat it. You were honest about your observations. People are just mad about how it seemed somewhat judgy like about the mental illness. All in all though it was a fine book and you're a great talent! Can't afford to go to your concerts though (as much as I'd love to) because the tickets are just so expensive.
