Floodland was a bloody great album. So was Vision Thing, tbh, though it gets forgotten.

The "drums" in all of The Sisters of Mercy's songs was actually a drum machine, listed on their album credits as "Dr Avalanche".

This is by far my favorite song by them. The time I heard it was at a friend's DJing gig. Dancing to it was lots of fun 😅

First and Last and Always has the greatest buildup of any song, IMO.

SoM is definitely not industrial not the 80s stuff anyway, we called it alternative back then later it was labelled goth. I say this as someone who knew members of the band. Infact Eldritch came to a party at my house once spending most of the evening playing with my cats in the kitchen while drinking Jagermeister.

I agree with you about the Jaegermeister ... yum! 😊

Great song.. Also a DJ fav for a break. If you wanna smoke or go to the bathroom.. You play this, or This Corrosion, or Temple of love 1992. Lol.

"This Corrosion" was always the song for 'would all Goths in attendance please immediately report to the dance floor.'

Andrew Eldritch lived in Berlin when Berlin was the place of the best artistic and cultural events (with Wim Wenders, Nick Cave, Bowie, etc.) and I have the impression that Berlin imprinted an authentic creativity on all of them, each of them in a special way... A little darknes, but also beautiful

You always surprise me, first it was The Associates and now Sisters of Mercy. I got to see them in a small club in Cleveland. The crowd was mostly goth kids in black and bikers in leather; great show! Other must hear songs: This Corrosion (big alternative dance club hit), Dominion/Mother Russia, More (another pack the floor club hit), Vision Thing and When You Don't See Me. Great stuff!

I was actually thinking there was a touch of Billy Idol in there, too, but I like him better. I would have hated this in the 80s! I was a kid looking for happy pop new wave songs. My example is always Howard Jones! I didn’t like the darkness of Goth. Not my thing. In my 50s I have more appreciation for rock and some darkness from a life lived, so not so bad! ❤

I was always more into Indie/Punk at the time but Sisters of Mercy was one of those bands listened to by a broad spectrum of Alt music fans across the board, I liked them and had a few albums, I used to love the Alt. nights you got in clubs back then which was normally midweek, goths in one corner, metal in another etc. It was brilliant, I lived with a goth/industrial fan and he was brilliant, he'd wear a black cowboy hat which he left in the living room to be used as an ashtray, you wouldn't want to be standing behind him at a gig! 🤣

Loved Sisters of mercy. Andrew was ... problematic ... but could write a heck of a song. I believe his voice was described as David Bowie being drowned in a bag of cats. Patricia Morrison meanwhile looked like some sort of evil goddess.

I definitely consider SoM industrial music. Them, along with Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Front Line Assembly and KMFDM layed the foundation of that industrial sound 😍

All them and others like Pigface, Gaye Bikers on Acid all part of my Saturday night and Sunday morning. Great days! How about giving New Model Army a go!
