Nice to see someone enjoying the Sisters of Mercy. This song is great to dance to, especially in a Goth club where the music is very loud and vibrates your bones. I was dancing on my own in a club and when the line "And the devil in the black dress watches over, my guardian angel walks away" the song slowly became real as this goth girl in a black lace dress became fixated on me and I on her. Our eyes met and locked and we danced in circles around each other like two planets with some irresistible force pulling us together completely automatically like you mention. We started out about twenty feet away from each other at the beginning of the song and ended up about an inch apart. One of those magical moments that you can't believe are real.

Coming from just outside Leeds and being a teen I saw them quite a few times, along with The Mission (when the Sisters split). Great band, just wish they would actually release material again.
Edit: if you want a similar voice then I would recommend either Fields of the Nephilim or Type O Negative. If you want more female backing vocals I would go with Severina by The Mission (an offshoot of The Sisters), or Gimme Shelter by The Sisters (a Rolling Stones cover).
This was just called Goth at the time.

I got very excited when I saw the title of this video! Sisters of Mercy do have a lot of other great tunes, but I love this song in particular, specifically this version with Ofra Haza. Absolutely epic stuff to dance to, as you noticed, lol. Sisters were a staple of the 90s goth scene around here (Southern Ontario, Canada) for good reason. I don't really know what you'd call them, either, some kind of industrial/dance/goth hybrid that just clicks. It's good stuff anyways!
Man, kinda makes me want to climb back down in to that 90s goth/industrial rabbit hole. There were so many great bands from that era (not necessarily much like Sisters), such as Black Tape for a Blue Girl, Love Spirals Downwards, Stoa...actually, I think all of those were on the label Projekt Records. That's a great label for the 90s goth stuff. Nettwerk Records as well, though they hit more of that industrial end of things. Cold Meat Industry is yet another, more from your neck of the woods as that was a Swedish indie label. Some great crazy experimental stuff (Brighter Death Now stands out in that area), but also some fantastic artists more like this goth/industrial stuff we're talking about.
Okay, okay, that's enough for now! See, I told you I got excited. 😅

This is one of the most unique, special, and UNCOMMON genres of music ever. Early "Gothic Rock" had very few bands - SoM here, Bauhaus, and a couple others were it. The Misfits came out of Goth rock but transformed the genre into "horror rock" forever more. So this original "goth rock" that wasnt horror or evil themed is super rare!

"And the devil in black dress watches over My guardian angel walks away"
"Life is short and love is always over in the morning"

It's nice to see you discovering this. Brings me right back to dance club nights when I was college in the 90's. They were amazing. A brief, shining light...

Great 80's band. They actually stopped putting out music in the 90's to protest against their record label. ✌️
