Historically, mines in Path of Exile always had one big problem - comfort. But now, with Automation support added to the game, we've gotten to see what it looks like when playing mines basically feels like playing without mines anyways, and it is basically stealing the identity of self-cast entirely because mines were already so much better than self-cast in what was essentially every way possible.. If you didn't believe this to be true before watching this video, pay attention for the math as to why mining truly is superior, and why it's so hard to not just slap a mine everywhere right now.

I actually think you missed one of the biggest reasons why Mines are so strong. Auto Target. You no longer have to target enemies on the screen to have them be hit by spells. The ability to focus on movement and not have to worry about sliding the mouse to the other side of the screen is a huge benefit that no other build-archtype benefits from, besides spell-casting totems. What I personally think needs to be done is an overhaul to the start up animations to skills. Cast times being sub~1 second is great. And that should be improved as you mentioned before. But I believe the windup animations for the spell cast is abysmal.
Oh wait, did I actually? I thought I had it in my section talking about it being automated and whatnot. Definitely fumbled there if I missed that part
@@NoNameHQ Automation support, and it executing the cast on its own, yes. But in terms of the actual targeting of the enemy, I may have no heard it specifically. But never missing on targeted spells is just a MASSIVE upside that (Other than totems) no other archtype has going for it.
not all skill. some of them just cast randomly not targeting enemies. i think only eow, hexblast and exsang is auto? last league lance tested all spell skill.
Most projectiles detonate targeting a specific enemy, even if you aren't hovering over one. Which then based on proj speed and whatnot can still miss, or you end up with stuff like Icicle Mine or other nova projectiles that can still miss as well because of their base targeting behavior.

Yep self cast only start being fun when you have shit ton of cast speed. Also they make ice nova of frostbolt amazing because it override spell echo so you get benefit of high cast speed without repeat stuck. One huge upside of self cast is you are the one dealing damage so leech is lovely. But downsides are way too much. Unless you play ice nova of frostbolt
Mines also get the advantage of precasting while the boss is afk
I played exanguinate mines for the first time this league and it indeed felt awesome, pretty good clear. The only down side of using mines is when you kinda wanna blink away and you're stuck in the throwing animation.

Your content is good, you are smart. Explaining support gems and what makes them break rules is awesome. Personally, I don't need the character in the first 5 seconds.
I'm a fan of hexblast mines, and I was absolutely amazed at how smooth automated detonations felt compared to last league. just night and day.
honestly makes me not wanna play any other build right now, because I would lose my "5 targets at once high-speed autoaim"
after playing hexblast this league I found myself asking both why I hadn't tried it sooner and more importantly, how I'm going to find a build to one-up how it feels

I know I’m a little late to the party, but there is misinformation about how mine stacking works. When your using automation your not really stacking more than 5-8 mines depending on throw speed, which seems like a reasonable trade off for the QOL it provides. To get the full pob damage numbers you would have to hit your detonate mines right as you hit cap which is what keeps the mine support in check (disregarding the other support gems)
20 mines basically isn't a thing outside of pre-loads, even back when we used to run blastchain mines (tremor rod) you pretty much never actually got to 20 before letting it blow without it being a prestack
its generally why every pob ive made for mines is always based on 5, just seemed like the most realistic number

Obviously I'm not the only jackass with an opinion here, but personally: While this is interesting, I have a _lot_ more fun listening to you talk about one of your builds (or any build) than this sort of meta commentary.
You are so wrong thinking that self-cast is obsolete.
DD is the most popular spell this league and many of those are self-cast (either elementalist, chief or necro)
Ice nova is all self-cast and it has the same player % as hexblast.
Soulrend, Forbidden Rite, Spark are all thriving as well. The list goes on.
Now hexblast is way better than them in sanctum and it can be a little bit better for uber farm as well. But most, if not all of the above are miles better for mapping, especially for farming T17 B2B. And you know what content is the most profitable this league, right?

The video title claimed that self-cast is obsolete and it is clearly not. The guy went on as far as telling you to "slap the mine gem in everywhere" and it is just a stupid idea
The fact that those self-cast builds that I mentioned are meta simply proves further that I am right and the video is wrong.
The one who is not serious is either you or the video maker.
@@zat256away Dude... because a few self cast builds are meta doesnt mean that self cast in general is not garbage. Play glacial cascade self cast, hexblast of havoc, or any other non meta skill and you'll see how bad it is.
Mines/traps bypass certain mechanics, give more inherent damage, you can prestack, etc. My glacial cascade scion reached 50 mil dps with spell echo ( 5k life and no mitigations no nothing ), but a tank trickster with hexblast mines gets 100 mil with minefield. Like dude, you can't make this up.
@@zat256away Also you mentioned DD. DD is by far the most broken skill due to corpse mechanics. You dont have to put that on a mine, because it already deals billions of dmg lmao. That doesnt prove self cast is good just cuz DD exists. Such a stupid comment imo.
Phaha "mines strong" they are not the best than mediocre In terms of DPS and characters relatively weak in comparison with smfng that at least could tank exarch balls I personally prefer smfng with 200mil+ DPS and 200-300k ehp mines never come close to these numbers sad truth

I always start mines or totems for every reason you named plus.. they are easy to transition into a bosses or sanctum runner later after 2 and 3rd builds. My league always goes totem/mines ... grind for 4 days. Reroll for fast mapper/mf transition starter into bosser. 3 build is for atlas strats based on what sounds fun. Been doing this since synthesis league.😂😂😂
