It was a fair lost because they still had depth and talent but they still wasn't at their full strength. And I think all Medical Staff for NBA, NFL, NCAA, needs to look into how and why players seem to be so injury prone. I literally watched Metchie injure himself just from running a ROUTE. Whether it's artificial turf or basketball players dunking and landing on their feet wrong... Someone needs to step up and educate athletes and change terrain/do what's necessary to protect these players better.

Draymond rightfully said on Redick's podcast that this team (2016-17 warriors) was an anomaly, because Steph signed a lower contract after his many injuries on his ankle, Dray himself signed low because of his role and so did Klay, but also because they knew they could have a real god shot the next summer in signing KD by lowering their contracts.

I really used to hate Draymond, but the older I get the more I really truly appreciate what he did as a glue-guy & leader on that Warriors team. Being the guy in the locker room holding the egos in check, being a teacher, a mediator, taking a smaller contract, locking in an extension etc.
It's mad what goes on behind the scenes but I would say he is one of the main reasons the GSW did so well for that period of time and how they're able to rebuild now without KD.

the craziest thing about the warriors is that they didn't get big egos and demand to leave. While philly gains a second star, they lose the squad depth and shooting requires for the playoffs. Plus, Harden has alway been inconsistent in the playoffs and often fails to deliver.
While Nets now have more squad depth and future picks to fall back on, they now have a clear weakness in the playoffs. People forget so quickly how much of a liability Simmons could be in the playoffs. Expect to see teams playing “leave Ben open” and “hack a Simmons”

The real question is trading vs drafting. It used to be that your draftees won you your rings (trades mattered sometimes, but their importance has just gone sup and up in the last 30 years).
The Heat had a Big 3 with only Wade drafted, while the Warriors only searched outside for KD out of their Big 4. The Bucks did it the old fashioned way, and even the Suns were not far from it. That is somewhat encouraging, but then let's not forget the good ol' Lakers...
I would say the defining event was the Harden trade - here you had a team who did even better than GSW in their draft collection, but couldn't keep it going because they didn't represent a big market.
The drive for trading in big stars will continue, because the economics are there. It just hasn't taken over fully, and hopefully never will, but the 20s will definitely bring us a Donovan Mitchell to LA, or Devin Booker to Chicago, or others of this sort.

Hang on, I don't think it ws the market that was the problem for Brooklyn. If anything, it was more the unfortunate circumstances between those three guys of theirs (and to a lesser extent, their other All-Star caliber players). James Harden being overweight, Kevin Durant's injury woes, Kyrie Irving being who he is... plenty of unfortunate circumstances all around. That being said, yeah, I agree with most of the things you said there.

We have many promising young guys out there, playing for the teams that drafted them - few will get the chance to play for a ring. In a few years they'll be gathering in LA or NY.

The greatest superteam will be the one that is built like the old ones, star talent on the roster with tons of flexibility in assets, for example, in 2026 Giannis, Luka and LaMelo sign with the Lakers who were stockpilling draft picks for the future and had some good young players with cheap contracts, now suddenly they have a big 3 with a deep roster, a tailored staff for this team's brand of game, along with 3 1st and 3 2nd round picks per year till 2034, landing top lottery talent to the roster and what doesn't and is valuable gets trade for future picks, that's the greatest superteam and dynasty of all time and the nail in the coffin for the anti superteam moment
All it takes is for the players to be more smart and crafty in building their superteams and prepping for it

bro what are you talking about, Barcelona was THE SUPERTEAM during the MSN era. AND they had the best playstyle of all time, could have only been compared to 11-12 barça. It wasn't "building a superteam" that ended Barça. It was their most expensive ever transfers getting constantly injured or forgetting how to play, and their insane wages. That caused a lot of losses financially, so they had to "rebuild" because of the FFP regulations.

when the trade happened, for the first time in a decade, i was actually intensely excited to see 2 teams have a playoff series BEFORE the finals (nets vs 76ers) itss true that the product of the nba gets better without superteams. to say it another way, it is better when teams are all around the same level, then it comes down to intangibles, like hunger, leadership, clutch factor and mental toughness. These are the people we literally love seeing succeed. anything else is a waste of time
its true most of us dont watch the nba, except for the deep playoffs and finals, where the matchups have almost always been decided before the playoffs even begin.
its ok to have a superteam, as long as there are 10 or so superteams, and by the looks of the growing amount of talented players in the league, this might be where we are headed, slowly.
injuries are a major factor. its specifically how the raptors beat golden state in those finals. if you have a big 3, meaning ur topheavy, and they get hurt, which is likely cuz they are playing the most, then your team as a whole is not built to withstand that loss.

The Warriors won the chip. Though they are definitely not a super team. They are homegrown drafted players who were all willing to play a role in order to win

I agree that a lot was riding on big 3 on Nets (from stats), but there is more to super team than bunch of super players on a team. The one big one that no stats can predict is chemistry, personilaties, roles, to name a few of them on same team.
With Nets - biggest downfall was they hardly were able to all play at same time. The other is lack of defense. (Todays nba isn't allowed to do that much defense as it is since old school hand checking been banned). But even with that some of them dont even try to play defense...

To be fair, when was the last time there wasn’t really at least one or two superteams. If we’re qualifying 3 all time great players as a superteam alone, we really haven’t had a long stretch without one.

That's a complete misnomer driven by the media....there have Always been super teams bro. Off the top of my head the only team you may not consider a super team was the '04 Pistons...who beat a Lakers super team. Giannis' Bucks could be considered, but other than than that, you might have to go way back to Walton's '78 Portland squad. I'm sure there are a couple I'm forgetting, but I'm going off the top of my head like I said. So this end of "Super teams" is total BS imo....they've been around ever since Russell's Celtics in the 60's.

I jumped on the 2016 Warriors bandwagon and loved every second of their battles with OKC and Cleveland. None of those were superteams. Then KD went to GS. The NBA got a lot less interesting for a while, pretty much until last year, with 2021-2022 being the most interesting since 2016. Hopefully, we get back to the era of team loyalty and quit the “ring chasing” era once and for all.
