    A couple points on the Locklear thing. The K rate is 41% not 44%, and also you have to admit he got screwed by the ump on what should have been ball 4. Also the Home Run against Crochet wasn't in the middle of the plate it barely caught the lower inside corner. And as Ty said, it's a week.
    I also realize Colby doesn't put a lot of value in defense at 1B, but the difference between an average defender there and a great one is massive. Locklear looks like he's a great defender at 1B, and he made multiple plays this week that France likely doesn't make either because he isn't as tall and doesn't have the reach/doesn't have the range ability

      The AB before he hit one his HRs they pitched him 3 stright fastballs above the letters and he missed badly on all 3. For whatever reason they decided that they were going to pitch him down on his next AB.
      I like Lochlear, he's easy to root for.

      @ProfessorGriffPDX Před 22 dny +6

      Colby using small sample size to cement his point of 41% (incorrectly called 44%) K rate while not also realizing the small sample size could be causing that K rate is peak Colby argument right there, ha. That one strikeout you mentioned where he got rung up on a pitch on ball 4 way out of the zone would put his K% at about 38% which shows you how much each strikeout can alter the stats with this few PAs. And yeah, the slider he crushed was not a middle middle hanger. Still too early to tell, but he has looked pretty MLB ready so far.

    • @tjdeuceosix
      @tjdeuceosix Před 22 dny +5

      You can just grant Colby the inflated K rate; the sample size of K rate is no more an indicator that Locklear has a K problem than his wRC+ being an indicator that he should be an everyday player. Sample size is just too small.

    Not enough credit is being given to Service for starting Hancock against the Sox. A brilliant managerial move on many levels. One, it set up Castillo, Kirby, and Gilbert to pitch
    against the Rangers. Two, it gave Woo extra time to recover. Three, with Crochet starting for the Sox that was a game that would have been difficult to win anyway. Four, it showcased
    Hancock to the Sox for possible future dealings. And Hancock did have a strong start.

    Fact of the matter is if you look across the MLB, especially with top prospects is that if a player has nothing to prove in the minors (locklear, Holliday, etc) then what does more minors time do? Seems nothing. Give the kid more time, he’s destroyed the minors, can’t make a decision for at least a month longer.

    • @joemc8488
      @joemc8488 Před 22 dny

      Didn't Locklear only come from AA? I would think he could use a few hundred more AB in AAA before extensive exposure to MLB pitching. Maybe gets called back up in Sept.?

    • @TonySopranosDuck1
      @TonySopranosDuck1 Před 21 dnem

      @@joemc8488 came from AAA, and my point is the gap between AAA and MLB pitching is so vast there is nothing left for him to prove. What can he learn from AAA pitching when hes already crushed it at that level. Across the minors, pitching prospects are shot to the majors now because the top ones stuff is so good their arm will break at some point and its better to use it at the majors. MLB ABs is what he needs, not more AAA ones, nothing to learn there in a hitters AAA league.

    Honest Opinion/Feedback on show…
    Want to enjoy your guys show but it’s tough listening to Colby. He speaks so negatively about the players, and makes such big absolute statements about what they can/can’t do, as if he is the only voice of reason on all things baseball.
    Why speak so negatively about Locklear when he has come in and stepped up and made some big plays in his one week of play, and had a major impact on multiple games? Why would you just single out the one negative thing with his strikeouts, instead of highlighting all the positive things he has done? Doesn’t make much sense to me and he does it with so many different players.
    If you watch big media members/podcasters, they don’t speak that way about these players. They speak their opinion, but they always keep it respectful. Would recommend reflecting a little bit on how you speak about these dudes and how you present your takes.
    Respect your opinion and you definitely know what you’re talking about, but hard to put up with the negativity.

    Locklear is the future at 1B. This will probably be France’s last year with us because of his showing so I would look to trade France or Canzone to get an upgraded corner outfielder. Keep my man Raley out there for the other. Locklear is younger, taller, has more power, speed and so far showing a great glove.

    If the Pen gets Santos, Evans and Spier back, it's not all that easy to add to the pen. You're looking at Thornton, Voth being the guy off the team to add an arm in the pen.

    In regards to relief pitching; Often pitching 1 inning ensures the other 8 still count for a win, do not discount what bringing in another arm to stabilize the final innings could do to close out some of these close games that are currently at risk.

    Seattle has shutout every West opponent at least once (2x vs TEX).

    There was this kid back in 1951 who was called up to the Bigs, went 1-for-12, hit a homer, then went 1-for-12 again. An awful first week+. It is said that he himself lacked confidence that he could nit major league pitching. Not yet, anyway. One pitcher joked that he might have been able to end the kid’s career right then and there. Anyway, sure didn’t look like an everyday player.
