Vivaldi was much in the style of Elegance and Agility. I am fond of his way of composition that favored the elegance and agility within dance. Thank you.
La Folia was an old spanish folk melody that many baroque composers used for variation treatment. The earliest treatment is not Marais' but by Juan del Enzina in 1520. More recent examples include Beethoven hiding the theme in the Andante Con Motto of his 5th symphony.
Lully was the first one to bring it into instrumental music, meaning as to be known as a dance by the royalty. Marais, who was Lully's apprentice for some time, made the Folia variations from the standard theme Lully composed for winds and strings.
La Follia is a very famous theme of Baroque Era, also considered by Corelli in his Op. 5 (violin and b.c.). This one is the Vivaldi's version, for two violins and b.c.
I'm a rinascimental dancer, but I'm in need of this "modern" moves... maybe the black one is more talented, but I prefer the grey one: is less "plaisir" and more "poissance" ... beautiful coreography and great dancers. Molto bravi. It's a pity that many peaces of this Vivaldi's Follia were cut off.
Why there are so many people saying that "La Follia" was composed by A. Corelli? A "Follia" is a dance as a giga, corrente, sarabanda..., with some ostinate bass, like "Bergamasca", "Passacaglia", "Romanesca" or "Ciacona".
Bring back this fashion for men, replace the evermore boring tuxedo penguin look. And let the men's hair be long again. It's so much more sexi than the prison cut they have today.
Interesting, despite this piece was not made for ballet. Also, in this performance the the sonata was cut about 6 variations of the central musical theme, but however I liked so much such a good interpretation. nIce party, definetely.
The tune was done by many a baroque composer. To my knowledge nobody really knows who composed the original tune. It is late medieval ~ early renaissance.
I prefer Marais variations. Although, all the other variations are wonderful, and its how many variations came from a single work which is also a "Variation" of the typical spanish folia.
indeed, the follia di spagna [complete name] it's a very old theme probably from spain or the "new world" , probably invented in the 1400, that many artist used for a lot of variations. Just as merula did with is ciaccona, but with another theme
My very hot sincere aplauses and sincere bravo in your light adress!!!Dears in prof-classic musiciants and too in adress dears in prof ethno-historical fantastish dancing very very too..Danke Schon!!!!!!!
@musicmansixty7 Agreed....excellent idea! My lady would look fabulous all trussed and powdered. Just don't ask me to dance.....that would spoil it for everyone.
@musicmansixty7 Agreed....excellent idea! My lady would look fabulous all trussed and powered. Just don't ask me to dance.....that would spoil it for everyone.
What form of dance is this, can someone please tell me (gigue, pavane, some type of "step for", i.e. "pas de", quadrille, polonaise, etc...)?! I would be greatly indebted. I am trying to learn and thus develop a foundation of understanding around the dance forms from which the compositional forms blossomed.
Corelli's is probably the best. Vivaldi comes in a close second. It has so much flair, drama and passion. Never gets boring. I think they skipped some of the variations which is too bad. Kis from lady Boergia
Yael v. d. Heuvel-Steen Prachtige muziek waar ik altijd een beetje triest van word. Ikzelf dans graag en heb deze dansen vaak met een groep gedaan op de balletschool.....
I thought the La Folia melody is of scandinavian origin, and it has been taken by many composers and variations of the same melody is made. And, apologies, but I cannot tell the composer, I honestly, I don't really care, the melody is good.( But I don't think is Corelli's version, and from the dynamics and arrangement patterns, Vivaldi is not unlikely.)
I played this with a chamber group of six plus a pianist at a music camp last week, and. . .I'm sorry, I hated it. I play cello, and it was probably one of the most boring songs I've played. It's so repetitive! We only did 8 of the 20 variations, but I did get to play the 14th variation, which actually has some moving 8th notes. Sorry, guys.
that's because you played it on a cello and with a piano. Try playing it on a viol with a bunch more strings and then try improvising a bit. Then it is worth playing....or buy a really good recording with an original instrument and you'll think different! Try Jordi Savall...
@ProphetLuong This is hardly the culture of our forefathers. MOST of our forefathers lived far below the sphere of the priviliged, very small minority that enjoyed this culture. A few of our forefathers might have been exposed to this culture as servants to the rich who enjoyed it.
Clothing for men is so elegant, sumptuous and sexi. But the female clothing here is particularly ugly. I'm sure they had much more elegant clothing for females. These dresses were terrible and did not at all match the elegance of the male clothing.
Follia is one of the nicest tunes ever...
I get the sense that these dancers are really recreating the baroque style of ballet authentically. Very enjoyable!
Absolument magnifique. J'ai 68 ans et cette musique me donne des ailes!C'est une musique intemporelle et pour moi ,qui suis arabe, universelle . Merci
Cela donne la chair de poule, tellement c'est exaltant !

Praise to who had anything to do with this. Absolutely amazing .
Oh my gosh...they played it sooooo well!
Lully was the first one to bring it into instrumental music, meaning as to be known as a dance by the royalty. Marais, who was Lully's apprentice for some time, made the Folia variations from the standard theme Lully composed for winds and strings.
Bellissimo!!!!!!
Beautiful presentation ! Thanks.
ВЕЛИКОЛЕПИЕ
So beautifully elegant.
I wish there was a higher resolution version..
absolument superbe..Merci
La Follia is a very famous theme of Baroque Era, also considered by Corelli in his Op. 5 (violin and b.c.). This one is the Vivaldi's version, for two violins and b.c.
:] the dancing is humorous and good. Give the sense of what it was really meant for.
What the music !!!
It s really fantastic !!!
Vivaldi is starry.....live for ever...
Very interesting, thank you for sharing it.
My God, were we ever this civilized?!

No, this was in Warsaw in Royal Castle :)
men's suites are so boring these days. why can't we wear clothes like that to the office? I mean without getting gawks?
Malcolm glzier Men’s suits are not boring, most men just can’t wear them properly.
@@gregcrabling2686 Yep. Beau would be quite disappointed.
Love the music, love the dancing. A full skirt or flaring waistcoat is necessary for the true aesthetics of this dance.
bravo
Yeah, I'm learning Corelli's right now and I love it to death. I'm not surprised I like it so much though. I've always been die-hard Baroque.
Interesting, despite this piece was not made for ballet. Also, in this performance the the sonata was cut about 6 variations of the central musical theme, but however I liked so much such a good interpretation. nIce party, definetely.
This is Vivaldi sonata opus 1 N°12
Barroco, Folía: Locura
It's Vivaldi's Follia.Corelli's sound a bit different. Many composers have done variations on the Follia and this one is by Vivaldi
The tune was done by many a baroque composer. To my knowledge nobody really knows who composed the original tune. It is late medieval ~ early renaissance.
quality!
Increible.
Was in Versalles?????
I prefer Marais variations. Although, all the other variations are wonderful, and its how many variations came from a single work which is also a "Variation" of the typical spanish folia.
Searching in the internet I found J. B. Lully has actually written the first version of this piece.
Niebiańska MUZYKA !!!
how can the audience remain seated? ... stand up and join in!!!

I think Corelli also has a version of La Follia.
Since Vivaldi!s time, there were Moon Walk dance
@awsomel
No, this is actually by Vivaldi. :)
nobreza! rs
A folia basically means a mad dance so you could put dance in there although it is not necesary.
This 's a very strange interpretation which skipped lots of important details from Vivaldi's original manuscript.
No. 16.
There was times when music was music and dance was a dance!
Now it's all about bass&ass...
What form of dance is this, can someone please tell me (gigue, pavane, some type of "step for", i.e. "pas de", quadrille, polonaise, etc...)?! I would be greatly indebted.
Baroque musiek is mijn absolut favoriete muziek :)
@newFranzFerencLiszt
Did u mean :)
the composer for this piece it's arcangelo corelli, NOT ANTONIO VIVALDI
Jean Baptiste Lully is the best!!!
where was this presentation????
nein, ist ursprünglich von Italien.

The music is not played well, sorry.

isn't this piece translated to "the Fool" hahaahahaha
(No Joke)
@laresoldo39 : Or... The Madison ? ;)
Sorry, I prefer the Corelli's version, without dancers ! ^^
